In many cases it just blocks all incoming connections to machines inside the network, becasue those machines don't have an IP address to connect to.
This is just the same as turning off programs that are capable of recieving connections, but strangely that isn't always possible under some OS's.
Much consumer NAT usage is there to stop all incoming connections because they are not useful to most users and not easy to disable in software.
Come to think of it, why can't Windows just have a feature to block all TCP connections in which it is not the client? Same effect as forcing people to use NAT and hardware firewalls.
I am really sorry to see that you got 0, Troll and the grandparent got 5, Insightful. Are all the mods on Slashdot rascist too? Or has it become acceptable in the US to hate chinese people because of politics?
I wish I had mod points.
Is this just where we say anything we like?

The great thing is, it has been increasing gradually all day. You can watch the capacity going up on the login page (along with some humorous stuff), and the storage capacity when logged in increasing smoothly in line with it.
Um... Is that ANY USE AT ALL?
They compared source similarity by analyzing the binary? Do they even use the same compiler (or compiler options, debug settings, etc.)?
Maybe he submitted it as an article, and when it didn't get in he just posted the relevant information instead of complaining that his was better like most people do?
It would be the end for them, because someone would make a much better binary-compatible OS. The source code for the win32 API would make Windows redundant.
Gentoo doesn't have core versions, just versions of each package. This is a new version of the installer, one of the least frequently used bits of Gentoo. Apart from the few prebuilt packages in the version for people without internet, this will produce the same system as any other Gentoo installer.
Please stop reporting new installer versions! This is uninteresting to those who don't use Gentoo becasue it doesn't effect them, and uninteresting to users because they have installed it already.
For the active person, a player that uses flash memory to store music has distinct advantages over a player that uses a hard disk. Simply put, flash memory players have no moving parts, meaning that you can take them jogging and your music won't skip.

It could be an overuse of quotation marks, or it could be a sarcastic reference to the false concept of "English" as a monolithic, standardised language.
AIDS is a drug?
You lazy bastard...
Wait, you mean we don't have to leave the basement anymore?
Is it legal for these things to sign credit card reciepts, drive etc.?
A real sexually transmitted computer virus?
I thought they were only in jokes...

No one beleives they have an accent, even Texans.
I don't notice my own accent, but I live in Oxford and you would probably think I have an extremely British accent.
If you think someone has an accent they probably think you do.

Let me be the third to point out...
Is this for real BTW? The style of what he said seemed a bit fake but I don't really know much about bitkeeper.
I'm sure the CDC mentioned this idea at some point, ages ago...

No, he meant in GTA
Now go and get that leg fixed. Hospitals are perfectly safe, unless you catch resistant infections.
Sheesh, all these people who can't distinguish reality from video games...

The poing I'm really making is that it is NOT "Gentoo 2005.0". It's the installer.

Only works if you stand in exactly the right place.
Anyone know if this is true?
Mitochondria differ very little between different vertebrates, as they do not reproduce sexually...
But that still leaves other important non-nucleus DNA for gut bacteria, etc.
Maybe they had infectious saliva like Komodo dragons; we'd have no chance of getting the relevant micro-organisms
