    Hmm... A file browser? Maybe a Windows Explorer replacement with built-in search?
    (FYI, people who don't have to use windows, everyone uses the same file browser under windows, even the ones who use alternative web browsers.)

    This looks to me like something that is already happening, namely the move from general-purpose computers that you install software on, to computers for email, word processing, web browsing that don't even seem to need the capibility of running 3rd party binaries. Look at Windows users. Many of them do not install anything that didn't come with the machine. They use outlook express, IE, word, MSN messenger and thats it.
    This is crazy. A PC is a general-purpose computer. It is there so you can do things it wasn't designed for.

    "Virii" is a sort of internet joke, like "boxen" (boxes).
    It's not really worth complaining about it.

    And anyway, it sounds better...

    Seriously though, there will always be some insecurity in computers (even running Linux, there will always be user stupidity) because in the end, the purpose of a computer is to do things for which it was not designed. It is general-purpose.

    In my opinion, the purpose of a phone is to make and receive phone calls and text messages. Nokia seems to disagree with me on that point.
    A phone does not really need an environment for executing third-party code at all.

    Microsoft has announced that security updates will be available to users of pirate copies of XP, but not to users of old versions of Windows...

    It looks like they are keen to keep even pirates in the update cycle. Maybe they would rather those who won't pay pirate Windows than use an alternative?

    I use MSN instant messaging.
    I'm sorry, it's because my friends are on it.
    But honestly the client doesn't enter into it. I use Gaim, because the standard client is way too insecure.

    I don't know how many people use alternative clients, but i would switch over easily because Gaim already supports Jabber.
