Man... been there. Still there in fact, and have been for the last two years. Had surgery where they found a torn tendon and repaired it, although that made no difference I can tell. Dropped a hot cup of soup in my lap pretty recently. They've done nerve tests, MRI, you name it, and not found a real problem. They didn't even see the torn tendon until exploratory surgery. They are "sure" it's not carpal tunnel, and in fact keep concentrating on the top side of my wrist even though I feel all the pain in the bottom side. As a network admin/aspiring programmer, it sucks.

Did you eventually get fixed, or is it just something you have to live with too?

Your brain is about the consistency of jelly, if that. Maybe somewhere between jelly and whipped cream. It's protected because it's encased in a balloon that's suspended in slightly less viscous fluid that's encased in a very hard shell. Neurons aren't hard to kill, or at least disable. Synapses are something like nanometers separated from each other, and moving in either direction pretty much makes them worthless.

OK, now drive a fucking speedboat through the jelly.

Yeah, this isn't a "bad childhood" contest, you would be among the people who had it worse.

All I was saying was that most kids aren't going to off themselves because they get dumped. I have no interest in participating in the main discussion. Fuck, I'd rather talk about abortion.

Fuck that shit. I've personally been through a lot worse growing up with an alcoholic father, and as much as that was a living hell other people have been through so much worse that my childhood would seem like a vacation.

I don't know what to say about a 13-year-old hanging herself because her boyfriend dumped her, but I will say that most kids are made of tougher stuff than that.

Content filtering doesn't work well. Everyone who has seen his legitimate mail filtered away knows this, as does everyone who receives spam despite filters being in place. As the filtering arms race progresses it will become harder and harder to seperate spam from legitimate mail, resulting in more processing power used and more false negatives and false positives. In the end only something with a near-human intelligence would be able to tell the difference, but it would be unethical to employ such a system for obvious reasons.
