I believe the article is talking about the zoo of new OO features in PHP5. Unless you have or would like to have OO code, you really don't notice it other than some of the PHP internal functions being moved into classes. Take a look at the object oriented parts of the PHP Manual.

  10. I *like* the OO. on Zend Taking PHP In the Wrong Direction? · · Score: 4, Interesting

This article was a bit vague on the survey used to justify the entire article. Who were the people surveyed? Are they just people throwing up private websites, or are they people designing applications and featureful sites in PHP? I have written and currently maintain a fairly large project that uses PHP5's OO features quite extensively. The object oriented features are what makes PHP5 so great. It is easy to design and reuse code. I look forward to it being extended and expanded, assuming it maintains compatibility.

  13. Qemu. on x86 Assembly on Mac OS X · · Score: 4, Interesting
First, a note to Cliff. Assembly has nothing to do with cross-compiling. When you write assembly for the PowerPC 970, it stays on the PowerPC 970. You can't cross-compile assembly because it is designed for the target platform from the start.

Now, what I would suggest you do is get a copy of QEMU. I assume you are familiar enough with Terminal and the shell prompt to get it working since you're stepping into the world of assembly, but if all else fails you can get QemuX or some other QEMU GUI off of VersionTracker.

Depending on what mode you're writing your assembly in, you'll need to install some sort of OS into QEMU. Some candidates are FreeDOS, MS-DOS, or even Linux. Use whatever your class is using. Emulators are very handy for writing assembly because you can debug the program at the "CPU" level, so when your program pukes you can get a better glimpse at what is going on. This is why many developers design inside of VMWare.

    I hope this helps!

This is not entirely the case. Sure, there are incidents where the daemon is attributed to the devil, but the general idea is to get a logo that is better for a business environment. By this, I mean something a bit more professional. The other goal is to kick up advocacy levels and generate media awareness of FreeBSD. One big goal of the new FreeBSD Core Team is to help promote FreeBSD, and this is one of those steps.

These drivers don't work unless you're logged in as an administrator. The "drivers" involve a little tray icon that shows the printer status and lets you do other crap, but if you try to print when you're not an administrator it is like Windows doesn't have the privileges to connect to the MultiPASS daemon or something. I've not found a way around this, so all the accounts on that computer are Administrator. The worst part is that if a non-admin tries to print, they're treated to an endless loop of error dialog boxes.
