It seems that teh two extreems would be: Oracle goes full speed ahead with this, fatally wounding RedHat, eventually causing a void i OSS land, or RedHat stands up to the challenge and emerges stronger than before. Either extreme has their pros and cons however.
I am curious as to if there is any way to find out if such things are really true. That is, is there any way to really know that five guys with turbans were just picked up off the street as opposed to five terrorist with actual plans and resolve to realize their fatal aspirations?
I ask because I can see valid benifits for "producing" such news, yet have no way to tell either way.
they have a guy whose sole job, whose 8-5 is to check up on things like applications phoning home, yet he didn't notice this till recetly? What operating system does he use at home and at his office? Wouldn't an individual in such a position forever have a packet sniffer running, and be running netstat?
Some people say that it doesn't make sense to personify a company and attribute concepts such as 'evil' to it. But I find this diffcult to attribute such lack of sign to simple ignorance.
Well while I don't agree with that completely, I think if that is to be done...it needs to be done completely. IF the American government wants to retake claim of the internet, I do suppose that it is their own to do so, however, they should forbid all foriegn technologies required by the internet, such as Linux, and all foreign connections, such as to China and Switzerland. Let the USA have the internet, and let the rest of the world have something totally different...even if just in name.
Don't worry about that. There are many TCP/IP enabled little.exe files in C:\Windows. I'm sure they must have something for exactly said purpose around since Win 9x.
Cops come to your home and basically abuse you, the you go file a report and _you_ get arrested... due to the fact that you collected evidence no less.
... I can only hope they don't actually dress like on the ads, and that they actually no a lot of computer stuff. But I am pretty sure they don't walk around with a Knoppix cd.
Cool. Here I was thinking that this was my own, little strategy. Highspeed internet connection, plus place max bid in the last 30 seconds + have maxbib %2 = 1.

I have to the conclusion that that is the point.
That's what I thought too.

Troll. Don't feed.
No they do not, they _deserve_ 10 fold. And that is in base ten.

How many ways are there to "brick" this device?
Okay, well count me in too. Didn't Wii win the Slashdot poll too?
... to be predicting things like this all the way to 2k9.
Multiply that 1mm difference by the number of steps they need to take to cross said large desert.

Cool. So you run an ip sniffer on every boot to see what info is transmitted. However, it is a two-way connection.
Install it and see your self.
nah, nothing wrong with Office 2007 coming out in 2007....how old will clippy be by the way?

A jury is rarely involved in these suits.
This article is interesting and all but how comes it is on Slashdot?

... to stop (slow down) childporn multiple companies are going to collect it? Just seems odd I suppose.

I'm right there with you, my MythTV knows Adult Swim very well.
Yah, reminds me of an episode of Stargate where an planet had things so well off they had devolved or something like that.
Well I'm not sure, but I suspect the fact that NTFS (seems to?) need to defrag would be one way.
