I still know a lot of people who won't use Gmail because they don't trust Google to read their messages.
Yes, one of the reasons why HoTMaiL is so popular is because it was created by an officially registered trusted company. What is more, it runs completely by itself in a locked vault 7926 miles beneath the Earth's surface.
Even Microsoft is having trouble saturating medium end computers that dell sells for the $900US mark.
Despite the fact that they haven't released a new OS in 5 years, they aren't doing too badly in terms of saturating computing power. They preempted the market, so they actually aren't lagging behind as much as you would expect.
Don't worry though, with the impending Vista release all your available system resources will be put to use for many years to come.
bring bad solid language rules with almost no exceptions - use consistent pluralization rules [...] some other things that I cannot think of at this moment
How about capital letters and full stops? Actually, perhaps we should just take things one step at a time. You already have received plenty of other good suggestions.
Accoring to Sauerbraten's Sourceforge status page, it is still in a pre-alpha stage. In other words, you should expect that it probably won't work properly. I haven't tried it though. Maybe their status page is ust not up-to-date? On the other hand, Cube is mature.
For most software, not being developed further is a bad sign, but for games it is completely normal that when a game is stable and playable, it is released and then no longer developed further, apart from perhaps some bug fixes if the error affects a lot of players.
Even so, thanks for the link. I might check it out when it becomes a little more stable.
I can see you haven't actaully tried it. You can't judge the beauty of XGL from looking at static screenshots (if you do that, you only see the applications running, you are not looking at XGL). It's the stunning effects and animations that make your desktop interesting and also more intuitive.
It's too bad Apple are so stringent with their pricing, or they could work out great deals with Unis that people wouldn't hate so much.
Do you know how difficult it has been for Steve Jobs to negotiate the price down to just $0.99? I'm sure he would like to reduce the price even further to get more market share from allofmp3, but the RIAA complain. When you have an artifical government enforced monopoly, you get to choose the price of your songs. No-one else, not even Apple, can force you to reduce the prices, even if Apple knows that keeping them so high is dumb. Personally I think they have done an excellent job in implementing their service and their price is not that bad (although obviously I will not be buying from them).
Look--piracy is stealing no matter what kind of spit shine you put on it.
Piracy might be stealing (arrrrrr!) but what does that have to do with copyright infringement?
Personally I think piracy should be reduced but they should probably leave it to the Navy because I don't think pirates and RIAA lawyers will get on well with each other.
I'm not trying to justify anything. I'm just pointing out that if Futurama wasn't so bad, more people might buy it. The creators of Futurama think it's their God given right to become billionaires and if someone sees Futurama and doesn't like it enough to buy it then they must either be criminals or insane.
Well they are wrong. They should concentrate on making Futurama better and if they can't do that, they should make it cheaper instead.
There is a choice, it's just that the choices do not do most of the things that a consumer expects (play Windows games, work with any piece of hardware, correctly display Microsoft documents, etc.)
Dell sell Linux PCs and you can purchase and use Linux on the desktop if you want. Microsoft still has a monopoly though because most people are forced to use Windows for one reason or another (For example they may already own $1000s of software and hardware that only works with Windows and not want to lose their investment).
1) You claim "AllofMP3" is pristine/lossless. I understood it was MP3, which is lossy. Which is it? What is their file format?
You can choose the file format and bit rate when you purchase.
FLAC (a lossless format) is one of the options.
However unlike most stores, you pay per megabyte so you have to consider if having lossless is really worth paying many times the price for a relatively small increase in quality over some of the other formats available such as ogg.
But slightly more seriously, if piracy somehow was stopped, would people switch to other operating systems, or would they go out and pay for a copy of Windows?
What would happen to the price of Windows as a result?
I forgot to mention: In your answer you might want to consider richer countries (America/Europe/etc..) and poorer/3rd world countries separately.

Obligatory link to Microsoft designs the iPod package.
There is no such thing as an "iPod killer". iPod is here to stay.
Linux is still immature in some areas, particularly printing and wifi support.
Don't forget games (and mp3 players).
Well I was right about 500 comments. Looks like it's going to go well over 1000 if the current rate keeps up!
Oh, I love articles about spelling! It always gets the conversation going.

YouOS is just sounds like a rip off of eyeOS.

If this is simplified spelling:
But for aul th hi-proefiel and skolarly eforts, the iedeea of funy-luuking but simpler spelingz didn't captivaet the masez then -- or now.
then I'm happy to stick with what we've got today. How many e's in iedeea again?
What do you mean nuffin to see? I bought front seat tickets for the flamewar that is about to break out.
I expect this article to get over 500 comments, and most of them will be -1 Troll or Flamebait. Fun!
We should standardise on spelling so that we only need to use one tag: 'vapourware'.

Watch a video of it here and you might get a better idea of what XGL is.
More videos here and here.

You're putting the blame in the wrong place.
If you like the sound of this then you might also be interested in Cube.
As with all open source software, it's pretty damn ugly.
:)
It seems that you have never heard of XGL.
Now you have.
If you hadn't tried to get First Post (and by the way, you failed) you would have had time to make a link.

Simple economics.

Funny post.

But why is the anti-copyright argument always the one touted here?
Huh? Are you reading a different Slashdot to me? Every time I mention that I might consider download Futurama episodes people get mad at me!
You must be thinking of Digg.
By the way most of the statements you made are false but I won't bother to explain why because it has been done many times before. Read the archives.
