Geriatric gaming will become more and more common as my generation gets older. I'm only 31, but I've had at least one system in every generation starting with PONG.
I don't intend to stop gaming EVER, so if I'm still kicking at 80 years old, I'll be gaming. I look forward more to WHAT I'll be playing rather than how I'll manage it though.
some former co-workers nominated me last week. I got the email and thought it was spam until I saw the prize fulfillment url was a thinkgeek address. clicked the link, signed into my TG account, and received the t-shirt one week later.
it says "42" in binary on the front. a good freebie imo.
I worked at a third party direct marketing firm for a while doing customer "support haha" for a while. the scam was that people would agree to get a free piece of jewelry from a company called Limoges (it was total crap jewelry) and all they had to do was pay a nominal shipping charge. what was not told very clearly at all was that by accepting the jewelry, they were also entered into a lifetime "jewelry subscription" that provided them with a new piece every month.
our job was to handle cancellations and billing problems. we were given one dollar for ever customer retained. keep in mind, the customer only had to be retained for that phone call. if they called the next day or the next minute, it did not matter. most customers after being retained stayed on for a couple months at least so it was worth the buck for the times the customer called to cancel the next minute/hour/day.
we, the agents, resorted to some really slimy tactics to get customers to stay on, including straight out lying or trickery. this was encouraged by management and i received a hefty bonus because I was especially good at it.
"prologue" I got sick of fucking over rubes (i had only taken it due to being pink-slipped in the good ol' dot-com bust) and finally found a job as a sysadmin for a casino (still evil!).
I live in Chicago. Did you work for Comcast? If so, I can tell you why everyone was cranky. The reason was that Comcast was in the business of fucking us over at every opportunity. Overcharging, service out, etc.
Generally though, Chicago is a friendly place.
I like how you not-so-slyly implied that providing tech support for americans is somehow different than providing the same service for canadians. I didn't realize Canada was such a tech powerhouse with the whole population just completely wired and without need of lowly level1 tech support. right.
as far as your call centers disparity is concerned, that sounds like a problem with differing management, not any sort of national difference.
I'm sure I'll get modded down for this (and it's worth it), but so should you.
I use MobiPocket with my PocketPC. It can convert and upload anything and everything I've thrown at it. It's also very customizable, with the ability to go into full-screen and scale the font size to whatever I wish.
LOOOOAAAADS better than the Microsoft Reader, which I was never able to get to work AT ALL.
5 million WoW users worldwide use BT to get their patches. That right there is a decent enough "legit" reason why one can't blame BT itself for copyright infringement.
I realize that the MPAA has to go after these BT sites just to make a showing, but it really is just a waste. They'll shut down these 5 (or whatever) and 10 more will pop up to take their place.
It's really not going to affect me one way or another, since I don't want to get sued myself and therefore do not download files that would put me at risk.
Unless "The IT Crowd" is protected. That show is GOLD JERRY GOLD and is freely available on many of the BT networks.
Yeah he gets suspicious when there are no cookies, but there is nothing he can do about it, nor can he prove there any abuse. At this casino alone, we have over 1000 employees, so monitoring someone more "personally" is pretty much impossible.
I'm IT for a casino and here internet abuse is only used to fire people. There is an agreement and all stating that you can't look at non-work related blah blah blah, but no one adheres to it, least of all the IT department.
The beauty part is that our "auditor" only has just enough power to check cookies on people's computers, so setting firefox to clear itself out every time you close it is a godsend. to look at logs from the corporate level is a REALLY BIG DEAL that takes a lot of paperwork and also HR has to get involved, so they never do it.
At any rate, to be safe(r) i use a site called logmein.com which lets me log into my computer remotely and browse whatever the hell i want. mostly i use it to manage my torrents throughout the day though.
Anyone know what kind of data is being sent by a remote terminal like logmein (it runs out of the browser)?
I bought Morrowind for my PC solely so I could try out the mod Ashes of Apocalyps (http://mods.moddb.com/4379/Ashes-of-Apocalypse/). I was really excited because the mod description made it out to be like an updated Fallout. In many respects, it was and I was pleased with it. Eventually though, I tired of it and played just regular ol' Morrowind.
Since that glorious day I have bought all expansion packs for it and eagerly anticipate Oblivion.
In my case, the mod scene truly drove sales on multiple levels for Bethesda.
p.s. I heard Bethesda is working on the next installment of Fallout. If it's anything like Morrowind (except in post-nuclear setting), I expect great things.
My current wishlist for a camera seems like it would be rather simple to implement, giving today's current state of technology.
Built-in HDD (a mini 5gb drive would do) - Considering how I increasingly use my Canon Powershot for filming video (it does an excellent job), it'd be nice to have that extra storage instead of the 1gb SD card i'm currently rocking.
WiFi - I realize that this is starting to become a reality, but the choices of what you can do with it are not. I'd just like to be able to upload to the photo dump of my choice. Flickr perhaps?
Same here. We are JUST starting to roll out XPSP2 and me and the other nerds were talking about how we don't see the company using Vista for a LONG time. Maybe us sysadmins will, but since corporate has been doing network scans on us, I doubt that too. I don't even think I'll run vista at home (right away) as I am fairly happy with XP Pro right now.
Pretty neat, but you can't mod 'em. No HDD slot either. At least by the time it comes out the games will be even more dirt-cheap than they are now.
Auditor FTW I also carry around a thumbdrive packed to the gills with various OSS and freeware when friends/family are having trouble with their PCs.

Now THAT is an awesome/hilarious "glitch".
Now that is just fucking cool. Finally a decent use of quicktime.
Do they even let you get your money back for pre-orders?
It's a trick, get an axe.
As long as it has a flashlight attached.
I want to play as a tribble.

Has anyone heard anything about the Four brave cosmonauts that were up there studying this?

More interesting would be the meta-moderation of such a system.

I, for one, welcome our new wasp larvae overlords.

wasn't this show on NBC before, except called The Pretender?
