I'm aware of the fact that the original developers of Xenogears jumped ship (what did they end up doing?), but I don't know why they chose to use the "Xeno" title if it wasn't going to really be a continuation of the Xenogears story. A bit misleading, wouldn't you say?

  6. Comparison to Sega (and others) on 360 Has Best Launch Lineup Ever? · · Score: 1

The real downfall of Sega happened not because of any of it's superb consoles, but because it felt the need to offer so many hardware add-ons that did nothing but confuse (and ultimately upon non-support, disgust) the gamer. MS seems to be doing that ALREADY at their launch.

Backward compatibility should have been standard out of the box for the cheapest version. Since the HDD is NOT standard on all machines, I really don't see MS (or more importantly, third parties) utilizing it at all. This will only serve to disenfranchise the people who paid big bucks to have it (and then not really get anything for it) as well as those who didn't (and not get backwards compatibility as promised months ago).

I'm not even a console gamer anymore. I gave up to become a full-time PC Gamer around the end of the PS1, but to me it just seems like MS is making one mistake after another with this launch. Odd, considering the success of Xbox AND the well-documented mistakes of consoles throughout the years who made many (if not all) of the same mistakes first.

At launch, the Sega Genesis came with Altered Beast. At the time, Altered Beast was a lot of fun AND it separated the Genesis from the SNES as the more "adult" system of the two.

ALSO, the Genesis (or was it the Master System?) came preloaded with a game that was hardwired into the machine as an easter egg. It was a little maze game. I liked it. I'm not sure if it even had a name.

  8. Alien Takeover on Colds May Trigger Childhood Cancers · · Score: -1, Troll

I'm all for more people dying from illness and such. Including children. Due to modern medicine we are making ourselves weaker as a species. One way is due to what was mentioned above in that antibiotics (and other medicines, I'm sure) are WAY over-prescribed/used and are therefore become totally freaking useless due to evil mutating germs. Also, natural selection is pretty much out the window nowadays. The strongest and most intelligent are no longer the ones that procreate/live longer than everyone else. Now it's anyone with decent insurance or fat wads of cash. An argument could be made that if the person is able to have the insurance or fat wads of cash, then Darwin would probably agree that it is cool for him/her to make children. However, my boss is an idiot, is in TERRIBLE shape, and makes loads of cash and doesn't pay for insurance. I see no reason for her to carry on her lineage. In any other era, there would be no babies in her cards. Oh well, looks like the cycle will continue. I, for one, welcome our inevitable alien overlord takeover due to utter and complete human weakness in a hundred years or so. You know those alien jerks are just hovering their invisible motherships waiting for this eventuality RIGHT NOW.

This Washington Post article was utter nonsense. It had two things in it that really irritated me. First was the quote from the one student giving the opinion something along the lines of "it's not oscar-worthy" or something like that. I don't know about my fellow slashdotters, but I don't go into many sci-fi movies thinking they have even a chance at scoring even a nomiation. Second was that unnecessary shot at both the Tron movie and game. I loved both very much, not to mention the new incarnation of Tron (Tron 2.0) was in my opinion, a spectacular game.

It's easy to tell this guy is either too young to have a decent opinion, too old and doesn't understand the gaming culture, or just some boob who got assigned to do this story and just concocted whatever mess he was able to find with an "I feel lucky" google search.

I don't expect Doom (the movie) to be great, but why should I? the game had a paper-thin story, but it was still fun for what it was. A mindless killing spree on Mars and in Hell. It looks like that's what the movie is too. I will see it and in all likeliehood, enjoy it.

I just read an article about these new "B" movies on Sci-Fi network. Aparrently they have around 30 in the can for the year and they do very well (relatively). Each one has a very low budget (I think I read 1 million), and given that SciFi is one of the more popular networks on cable right now, I'm sure they make that money back quite handily and then some.

Personally, I think it's great that they're bringing back the cheesy sci-fi movies. That means we might have a MST4K one day.

You are not the consumer I was referring to, so simmer down. The average consumer (you apparently) will never notice anything but good changes in their "updated" firmware. I have nothing against proprietary formats in theory, but proprietary hardware that ONLY supports that format, just plain sucks.

Sony is always pulling crap like this and then years down the line they play catchup (like the stupid "network walkman" or whatever its called).

The PSP is an elegant product, i do not deny that, but elegance is not enough for me anymore. Supporting Sony by buying their products is tantamount to supporting the new paradigm where the consumer owns nothing and only "licenses" their products. That sounds like nothing more than a Brave New World to me.

  16. Re:democracy on Buffer Overflow Found in PSP Firmware v2.0 · · Score: 2, Insightful

Say they lose 100 dollars per PSP purchase for hardware. As opposed to 300 (do the PSPs cost 2 hundo?) if one potential consumer didn't buy one at all. I'd say 300 is a lot more than 100 any day. They don't profit either way, but one significantly reduces their loss-per-unit if one takes the plunge down their rabbit hole.

  17. democracy on Buffer Overflow Found in PSP Firmware v2.0 · · Score: 2, Insightful

I do not agree with funding evil empires such as Sony by purchasing their items and then "cracking" them. Sony will just keep forcing more firmware, and you the faithful consumer, will continue cracking it. In the meantime, you're purchasing new duo sticks, umd vids, and games. Sony has tricked you into becoming a loyal customer by dangling the golden carrot that is their "unbreakable" firmware.

I'll vote with my dollars and not purchase one at all. The GP2X intrigues me though, even though there is some claim that it will be DRM enabled, I believe that to be just an assurance that it will have the capability of playing shitty DRM files (not that I'd have any anyway).

And the "virtual reality/internet" exhibit is so dated it's absolutely hilarious these days. Do I really need a huge section of a museum devoted to explaining me the concept of email? I think not. I think many millions of 10 year olds would also agree. I'm not really saying they don't have a lot of great exhibits though.
