    An audio bug in the victim's clothes would circumvent this. Granted, an audio bug isn't very practical, but translate my example back to the real world

    Tell me you're not serious about thinking that bugging your kid's clothes is a good idea. Please, tell me that it was a joke. I'm 14, and trust me, if my parents tried to sniff my convos, you have no idea how pissed off I would be. You don't think that perhaps children have the right to a little privacy? Sure, it's supposed to be for my own good, but does the end justify the means? If my parents DID sniff my convos, I'd just make a huge effort to waste their time (eg. script to just say "weed" "sex" "porn" every 15 seconds to an account I control). They'd give up after a while. Or I could just encrypt the hell out of my convos.

    I'd do that NOW, but you know, most 14-year-old chicks don't know how to use GnuPG, so it's not really a practical option.

    Since it seems like I'm the only teenager that's going to say anything, but thinking about sex all the time is entirely natural. You're not a teenager anymore, but we feel the hormones, and I don't want my parents trying to control what I'm thinking.

    We don't think any less of women. If you think pr0n is a big problem, you need to sort out your priorities.

    I cannot ask my father to uninstall his browser and reinstall a new one every so often. If Firefox wants to be accepted by the large crowd out there it definitely needs an automatic update

    You could only patch the binaries if everyone was using the same build. It might work for the most part, but if you have built it yourself, or use an unofficial build, automatic updates won't work.

    Assuming that it's the same in every device. SOMEONE would have had to point out how stupid it would be to make them all the same.

    2002 edition, paperback. I can see my Excutive Orders one from here, and that's a big one. Bigger than my C++ one, and that's hard to hold with one hand.

    #rm /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/drivers/usb/storage/usb-storage.ko
    Or just compile a monolithic kernel, put all your drivers into the kernel, disable loadable modules, and risk the consequences.

    What's to stop you from just using side cutters to just cut the ground pin? If they're not SMD, that would be easy enough. If the ports are SMD, you can use conductive varnish to connect the data/clock pins to ground.

    If you have 15 minutes to spare, then there is no reason to resort to glue.

    Not everywhere - here in Australia, the private schools get more funding than the public schools. In fact, that's what our opposition leader is pointing out on tv every ten minutes. To be honest, I think he's already won the election.

    Taking the harddrive doesn't get data from the server.

    And if you take the server's hard drive, then, someone might, you know, notice that the database doesn't exist anymore.

    Simple - the hash is being used as a protection of intellectual property, and that any usage of the hash in methods other than to identify a file as the valid data source is circumventing the protection of their IP (the file), and therefore is a violation of the DMCA.

    Because when you put in a filter, there are a lot of false positives, and you block legit sites. Blocking peoples' speech because it looks like child porn to a computer is the problem here.

    No, I have floppies still working perfectly, with all my data, from 6 years ago. And I found them underneath my bed. Out of about 20 disks, maybe 2 don't work now. I have plenty of reason to use them.

    I can't remember last time I used a floppy.

    Well, I still use them quite a lot. Twice today, once yesterday, and about 10 times last weekend.

    There is also the added advantage that I have a million of them lying around in my bedroom, so I won't run out any time soon.

    And NONE of my five computers support booting from USB, so don't expect me to be getting rid of floppies any time soon.

    I don't have a GBA, but how easy would it be to input commands into one?

    I am aware that commands currently need to be selected at compile-time.

    It's interesting, but doesn't have a lot of practial uses.

    But what I find most stupid is the philosophy behind it. Why make something so complex for free? I'm an excellent software engineer, good software is hard to make, it's beyond art, takes incredible amounts of education, hardwork and talent, and it should be kept proprietary and one should be paid to make it.

    Perhaps we enjoy writing code? Perhaps we want people who otherwise couldn't afford the software to have it? Perhaps we think it's a better way of programming.

    Not everything in life is about money, you know.

    I can tell you from experience, no-one cares about copyright law here in Australia. As much as I disagree with this, nothing will get done about it here, if Australian authorities are left in charge.

    Not that I think this is a good idea, but I can see their reasoning.

    So they THINK it's hard, but that doesn't actually make it complicated. I though building a computer would be hard, but I didn't have any trouble.

    I do. Almost all my friends do. I think it's safe to say that most people would benefit from this.
