    And don't even start me on customs......In Singapore, they just said "Got any drugs?" and let me through. And when I got back to Australia, the dogs that are supposed to look for drugs were asleep, FFS.

    I guess all this security is just a USA thing.

    Especially so since they give us knives on the plane.

    And, where exactly do you get hassled? In the time I went overseas (Australia->Singapore->Italy->Singapore->Australia ), the only time when I or anyone else near me has been through *ANY* non-xray/metal detector security check was in the Vatican City. They went through bags when people come in. And when the Pope comes out they have xray machines and metal detectors.

    A point source is an RF source which comes from an area of size zero. Often RF gain is expressed as dBi (Decibels from an isotropic (point) source), and dBd (Decibels from a dipole source). As you said, a point source will radiate in all directions.

    Point source and omnidirectional source should not be related, but I am not an RF engineer, so I could be/may be/probably am/am wrong.

    Not if I destroy my copy of the key after encrypting the message, and do not know who the recipient is, and the plaintext is in a language that I do not speak or is an already encrypted ciphertext. You can't find out anything from the nothing that I know.

    What's to stop them from just funding the research for a while and then as soon as most of the work is done pulling out of the international project and restarting their own project using the rest of the work, making an attempt to keep the information private, for reasons of 'National Security'?

    Then they get the best of both worlds, a project with high funding, and an important technology which they can sell off.

    If that happens, we're all fucked.

    This is assuming that the CPUs are all working on the same data set.

    If (theoretically) you got all of the CPUs working on an independant dataset then the CPUs would scale much better.

    Athlon 64 is the name used for the desktop line, and Opteron is the name used for the server/workstation processors.

    To be able to show the real potential of the Opteron, you need to have more than one processor.

    This lets you take advantage of the on-die memory controller, by letting each processor do it's own memory work, rather than making the Northbrige do all the work.

    If you want to use a single processor, you might as well use an FX-Whatever, since they are just an Opteron without MP capability and only one HT bus.

    Never seen anyone use that before, mostly we use BRB (Be Right Back) or BBS (Be Back Soon) for that purpose.
