Nothing wrong with a little sarcastic remark now and then.. You see, there are hundreds of other types of phones out there.. and they don't have this particular problem. Perhaps it is fair to poke a little fun now and then, when every little bitch moan and gripe about a phone has to be reported as news (real interesting at that).. I have authority to forgive him for his comment, because I spoke to someone who has touched an i-phone.. so I am blessed.
If the same person shows up drunk at the grocery store when I'm dressed in nothing more than jeans and a hoodie and does the same thing he's playing with fire.
Actually, the amount of drunkenness that you would find unacceptable in a grocery store should also be unacceptable in a bar.. Going to a bar isn't a license to be stupid and out of control... So setting the drunkenness aside it becomes a matter of whether or not it is acceptable for someone to hit on another person in places like the grocery store... The thing is, the answer is probably going to be different depending upon the person doing the hitting.. one person may be thought of as charming and flattering, and another as creepy and scary even if they used the same tactics and words..
I agree.. You may run over a dog with your car and not know it.. you would be telling the truth as you know it when you say "I did not run over any dog".. And having dealt with mentally ill people, I can tell you that relying on what they believe to be true would be a huge mistake.. I also spent 3 years arguing with an ex girlfriend over whether or not I stared at a magazine in a gas station (she would not let it go).. I'm sure we would both pass a lie detection test.
Is it a note taking application ?.. a basic text editor ?..An editor with support for programming languages or html ?... or a rich text format editor ?.. Will it operate in a gui, or command line ?.. sure there is going to be some duplication of efforts, especially when there is a potential income to be had.. but the better ones will survive and the not so good will die out.
In Norway someone trademarked the name "Ida" and a drawing of the now famous fossil. They sell suitcases.
Trademarking the name "Ida" probably doesn't do much of anything good for the company, as it can be a name, or initials for the name of a company or organization, and search results are going to be all over the place.. In the US at least, there can be companies with identical names as long as they are not competing against each other... Atlas advertising, Atlas snow shoes, Atlas roofing, etc.. I also don't see how an image or drawing of something that isn't an identical copy is a trademark violation in a non competing area.. If there is some copyrighted image at dispute, then that's something else altogether... How many animals are used as trademarks in multiple non related companies ?.. or the Pyramids ?.. Why would a fossil be any different ?
Directories and folders are somewhat equivalent in function, but usually there is a base structure in the OS to make looking for and finding things easier.. So a directory is really an "organized" folder of related files and folders... A document is a file, but a file is not necessarily a document.
Well until recently, Android was 1 phone, 1 manufacturer, 1 carrier. All that is changing. Europe has a nice jump on the US in rolling out new Android phones. Personally, I think the US is purposely dragging their feet for a combination of trying to get rid of existing phones and stalling to get their 3G networks in better shape.. I suspect that you'll find, that comparing 4th quarter numbers for 2008, 2009, 2010 will lead you to a different conclusion of where the market is heading.. but who knows, there are a lot of variables. The US carriers seem to have different tactics than Europe, that to me, only shoots themselves in the foot an keeps people from buying now. In my opinion, middle of 2010 will be a good time to shop, as there will be a large selection of more affordable "smartphones". (that are actually worth getting)
If these were passports or passport cards ?.. Most people here don't carry their passport around with them all the time.. However those new cheapo passport cards (for Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda) are much smaller and more portable and I can see people keeping them in their wallet.
I realize that both are vulnerable.. Sadly I have to get a passport renewal in 2010, and not looking forward to having a chipped one. I'll be getting the full one again (can see the point in limiting travel possibilities).. I wonder what percentage of passports are the cheaper one ?
That's not exactly my philosophy or most Linux users.. It's not the "wider (read, non-technical) audience".. they are ok.. It's the supposedly informed technical people who presume to speak for the masses, and have all the solutions for expanding the user base of Linux.
The problem is, most of these comments are from people who could care less about Linux.. Mostly I believe they are trying to justify their own purchases, investment in software, or time in learning a particular platform. No amount of coddling these people is going to "convert" them... and really, who wants to anyway. I am not about getting people on-board with Linux, or arguing which OS is better.. I gave that up, long ago. Time is better spent in helping the truly interested, or those who are fed up with problems who are willing to give it a try.
In other words.. I could care less about the growth rate of Linux, and whether or not any OS is winning over another.. Doesn't do a thing for me.. but if you have a problem in Linux that I know the solution for, I'm more that willing to help.
Oh, and you can blame MS all you want but the truth is that Linux, if as widely adopted and used by ordinary computer illiterate users, and as targeted by the malware writers as Windows is, wouldn't be a whole lot batter.
I keep hearing things like this.. over and over.. However you would think, that all these malware and virii writers might take it as a challenge to do it now, perhaps just for the brief fame, or infamy. The whole "if it was more popular" argument doesn't fly very well, and is made be those who just can't (refuse to) believe that maybe, just maybe, the security model that Linux uses IS a whole lot better.
Ok, I'll play Linux zealot and say that yes choice is better.. The distro I use has Java available in the package manager.. If there are distros that don't have it so easily available, at least users have the choice to use what I use... As to the desktop, pretty much all distros give you a choice of what you want to use.. Some people prefer Gnome, some prefer KDE, some prefer XFCE, there is no exclusive desktop.. so what ?.. some people prefer pictures of naked women as their wall paper, some prefer flowers.. Some people like the way programs in one language or the other runs.. others see a difference they don't like, and so choose to use something else.. Thanks to choice.
Perhaps they will give people a way to voice concerns or feedback on individual projects ?.. This would be nice as opposed to the "write your congressman" method. If individual projects got a lot of negative feedback, perhaps it would be reevaluated, or different people run it.. might keep em honest.
We have a project here in Reno, NV that is building a new "Transportation Center" (A place to catch the bus).. To me it is totally unnecessary as there is nothing wrong with the center they have.. they are basically moving it about a block and a half away, and actually a further walk from the town center.. The whole project is spending money because it's available, and they couldn't think of a different way to use it (in my opinion).. Yes doing this will give people jobs for awhile.. and that's nice.. but still they could have thought a little harder and come up with some other project (has to be public transport) that wasn't just doing something to be doing something..
Don't know.. maybe British Telecom ?.. So perhaps these are landlines as opposed to cell phones ?.. and the story gets lamer and lamer, I suppose there are some people who use the phone companies voicemail as opposed to a physical answering machine for their home phone.. well, la..de..da big spending celebs who throw away their money on fancy add on services. (course who knows maybe BT includes it, unlike the phone co's here)
Well, after about 2 or 3 hours driving in the desert (or the middle of nowhere), it sometimes occurs to you that somebody should do something with some of this land.. I've seen these windmills in many places in the western states (California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, and more) and all these states have some nice vistas, and I never felt that wow those windmills sure ruin it.
Some of it is technical.. Browser speed, Active X, implementation of Java and other things like flash, and rendering web pages to standards.. these things do offer different experiences depending on the browser you use.
I think we can ignore the gPhone so that only leaves Apple.
Your out of the loop.. Android phones are going to be hitting the market big in the next few months ( http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/05/27/google-expect-18-android-phones-by-years-end/ ).. Not only from different carriers (All the majors in the US), but also from different cell phone manufacturers.. The gPhone you speak of was initially supplied through TMobile, and although successful it has a handicap in that TMobiles 3G coverage sucks.. Yes you can use it without 3G, but why spend the money on a 3G phone if you live in an area without it ?.. I'm passing on the tempting myTouch from TMobile as well, in favor of the Lancaster (android) from AT&T because they have 3G in my area.. Not sure how many people are in the same position I am in, wanting Android but unavailable 3G coverage, but I imagine there are a fair bit.
Then owning a dog or a cat is unethical for any PETA supporter.. Because they must supply them meat. If you had to kill the cow, or chicken, or whatever yourself to feed your pet (while yourself only eating vegetables) it would be obvious... Has it occurred to you that the reason animals don't have this logical or ethical capacity is that they are all part of an eco system that has a food chain ? Different animals and insects eat each other with no remorse, and it part of balancing the populations of the different species. Humans need food too.. Eating another animal is not murder, it is being part of the eco system in the same way other animals are.. All the animals of the world are not pets to become attached to, and there should be no guilt involved.
YouTube is not totally free.. Just as commercial TV is not free. There are ads off to the side. When you compare it to Hulu and their ads, then you start to imagine potential revenue.. The difference is that most Hulu content is professionally done TV and movies, that people are willing to watch with commercials inserted. There will probably come a day when the price of watching a YouTube video will watching a commercial prior to the video.
Exactly, it's stupid.. Would anyone deny their cat or dog meat to eat ?.. It's as if animals should get more rights than a human.. Humans are omnivores they need to get over it already.
Mr AC.. Please do not be depressed or disturbed. To make an effort in decreasing the suicide rate, let me assure you that I grasp the "grammar issue" of which you speak.. Actually it's a spelling issue as I meant the contraction of "you are right".
I should know better than to reply to "Anonymous Cowards", but hey I can waste time and effort without expecting a reply too.
When I go on vacation to a country like that, I will buy a travel guide. I also spend a great deal of time researching prior to traveling. Having Wikipedia available 24/7 would be nice if I went off the grid that I had planned, but not life changing. Wikipedia is not that great as a travel guide. It "might" cover some things to see, and rarely things to do, but is more geared towards questions like those you asked in your post. Those type of questions are easily answered later without taking anything away from your trip.. What good is it to you though if you visit a city that has a bar with mermaids swimming in a shark tank and the wiki entry tells you nothing about it ?.. sure you will know the annual rainfall, and population density.. but your going to be pissed when you meet someone later who's been there and asked you about the mermaid shark tank bar.

Well the submission says this was from embryonic stem cells.. but who knows maybe the technique is applicable to adult stem cells.
