Could have been worse; you should see the shit that comes out of the Harry Potter fandom. It's infinitely worse than almost anything that comes out of the Star Trek fandom. And it's not just because they're all minors....
Not been around 'nuff ladies lately? Slash is the new harlequin romance. If you can't discuss their facination for Harry Potter twincest, methink's you ought to either catch up on your reading or wonder how you've avoided it for so long.
I'm quite interested in this discusson, almost specifically because I'm just entering into an undergraduate program majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Philosophy. In my mind I've always seen a connection between the two subjects; it really began because the the logic behind most philosphy that is the underpinning of all computer science. Howver, the connection has grown, and I'm often at a loss to describe exactly the connection. In my mind it's there though, and that's enough for me.
Question from a non-hammer:
- Is the no encryption of data over HAM just polite, or legally mandated?
- The data, I assume is something like packet radio. Can you possibly tell me; is there some sort of adressing, along the lines of IP, or is it a free for all? (I sort of intend to say can more than one data stream travel at any one time)
I'm with you: I'd rather have a smaller, slower, longer running laptop. If I wanted extreme power, I'd buy a desktop (now, destop replacements have their place, but not for me). Twelve inches, 8 hours of battery life, at under four pounds? Yes please.
That temp really burnt my backside; to be punny and colloquial. I'm sorry, but is it impossible to keep a laptop cool now?
The battery life made me happy
Why thanks! You make me feel needed:)
In all honesty though, I would really have gone with ANY operating system that got ACPI working for me. Ubuntu froze 80% of the time, most other linux distros wouldn't even wake up at all. I've only had FreeBSD crash in ACPI sleep twice, and both times it was my fault; leave esoteric hardware connected, you get a crash. And it's only been getting better. It used to be that anything touching PCM meant that a crash would happen; now, I can suspend with XMMS playing!
I have to say this: If you can handle NOT using Linux, FreeBSD by far has the best ACPI implementation i've used yet. It's stable, usable, and well integrated. Wireless is decent, many drivers work well. WPA is really well put together (for my uses) too. I've been using a D-link (atheros chipset) without any problems. Apparently (and I have no experiance here), Nvidia puts out it's binary drivers for FreeBSD too.
That said, this advice will probably fall on deaf ears, considering that he wants linux, but that's Ok.
So, I mean to ask: Running but destroyed meaning that the chip still runs, but returns minute errors? Or, had a chip that ran stable till it just... up and quit?
It's amazing to read through these comments. You can string together two major themes: Sony is going down, and Nintendo is rising.
Huge role reversal.
methinks japan will be held by sony still though, if only because they have an insatiable lust for RPGs of the squarenix kind.
Sure; and if I ever buy a PS3, I'll wait at least three years. Sorry, but that's too rich for my blood, especially considering it would be on the "promise" of deliverance.
Folders are the most portable solution; I took my old unorganized collection, ran it through itunes (which I'll use to listen when I'm on my winbox) letting it create all the folders and directory tree for me, and now when I need to find something it's easy. The only issue I have is that there's not a decent program on FreeBSD that's small enough for me to manage all that info for creating truly good random/shuffle playlists.
Hm. You learn something new every day; I knew about the D-Pad, but I did NOT know about the analog stick. I could have sworn the PS did it first; but, lo and behold. (Of course, it's not really an ''innovation'' per-say; After all, it is just a mini joystick.)
I agree to an extent; you're right, in that it's a much safer ssystem. However, I don't like the penalization of players in MP:H for not playing exclusively friends that is the limitation in game modes. Deathmatch only? Come on.
I'm curious as to how you'd imagine that working... I mean, I can see a DS adpter working for the Revolution, (Wavy wand thing and all), but for the GC? Explain, please?

DsMeet is another. I haven't really used either yet; something about giving out my friendcode to someone who can voice chat with me that I don't know.... just, not my thing.
My one disappointment in Hunters is the fact that they didn't open up custom games to random matches.
Well I do think he may have been off base on a couple things; he's spot on with other things. The ending of HL left me craving more, but in a way that felt like I had achieved something. On the otherhand, the cop out that was the ending of HL2, made me feel as if everything I had done in the game was really for naught. Now, we know that stuff like that will be resolved in HL2:Episode 1 (aka Aftermath), but to be honest, dropping more cash for something I know will continue ad infinitum is not exactly my cup of tea.
The most exciting thing in my mind right now is the project Black Mesa:Source. Playing through the original half life with updated graphics? Kick ass.
See; in theory, its a great idea. But by the same principle that some nerds start typing digg when they mean dig, and del.icio.us when they meant delicious, I manage for the most part to disable the mental brake that stops me from using sudo wishywashily.
I type sudo rm -r * with the same ease that I type rm -r. My hands muscle memory once started is faster than my brain. I guess I just have to trust that my initial aim is true.
Is this going to be a mandated move? IE: Will it be mandated that established porn sites move to their.XXX counterpart? Or, will this be voluntary? Also, what about borderline sites which serve multiple purposes, but do have pornographic content? If it's mandated, will this end up putting sites like that out of business?
I've yet to see Napoleon Dynamite, but I do agree Nacho Libre looks really good.

And to think, when I read Waldo I though it would be one of those Sci-Fi concepts that would never come true.
Why thanks! You make me feel needed :)

I could have sworn he was planning to do playgrounds....

Though, the DS gets it almost perfect. My only real gripes about Metroid:Hunters relates not to the controls, but to other things, like gameplay.
The feasability of that is questionable... As I said though, there's some hope come revolution; it's infinitely more feasable with that hardware.

Yup. And I spent money on the fucker.
