Why should I? I went through the whole charade with Win3.1, 95, 98 and ME. I see nothing added to the table now except snazzier (to some people) graphics and more junk added that doesn't *do* anything. Not to mention the recent flood of spyware and viruses.. why *would* you use windows?
I became interested in Linux when I worked for an ISP and some of my tech support friends hijacked my laptop and put Mandrake 6.1 on it. I was hooked within about 6 hours (even though I broke it in less than 3. Lesson learned: DON'T use root for everyday tasks. This was before the installers reminded you about that.) I ended up using Debian untill switching to OS X 3 years ago.
I switched to Debian because of apt-get and I switched to OS X because I liked the magnification effect of the dock. Trivial reasons maybe, but I've never looked back. When I want to nerd-out on OS X, I pop open Terminal & Fink and away I go (running KDE or GNOME on top of OS X is just too much fun.) When I want to just relax and have fun, OS X hides it all for me and the simplicity of the Mac comes out. Windows is worst of both worlds; a crappy GUI that wasn't improved in XP, instability, a goofy filesystem, no ssh-ing in (go *nix), constant reminders, the list goes on.
As a side note, I hadn't used windows in about 3 years until I got an iPaq a few months ago, with of course pocketpc (or pocket windows, whatever.) Sometimes WiFi doesn't work, sometimes Bluetooth doesn't work and windows tells you to please perform a soft reset to fix the problem. Suddenly it all came back to me why I switched in the first place. Only in the m$ world is this acceptable behavior for a computer environment.
Not to mention that m$ has abhorrent business practices, crummy software, joke security, underhanded marketing tactics and absolutely no morals whatsoever.
I got the S602, which is a generation or two behind it. Most internet reviews have not been kind to the S5000 and indeed Fuji because of their 6mp-but-really-3mp (or 12mp-but-really-6mp) SuperCCD sensors (and not too honest box labels.) How has it treated you?
I finally bought an S1 Pro, which left on the automatic setting, has been very kind to me with only minor Photoshopping (for contrast, brightness, etc.) Also the S1 Pro uses a Nikon F mount so I can use Sigma, Tamron & Nikor lenses.
I chose Fuji because their dSLRs are based on Fuji Velvia film, so you get really vivid colors (I'd host some images, but come on, this is/. )
The last part about durability, if you're planning on using your dSLR outdoors in adverse conditions (rain, snow, sand-storm, whatnot) might I recommend a Nikon camera (such as the D100) which have enviromental seals to protect them (Fuji's don't.) Nikon's are pretty famous for being rugged.
People, you're talking about Bluetooth and wireless integration with this and that -- do you think the average 14 year old Tokyo high school girl (who can sell her underwear for 50$) gives a rats ass about Bluetooth?
Which part of Japanese was easier to learn? That its grammar is almost the exact opposite of English, or that it uses 2 native alphabets plus 1945 daily use Chinese characters?
"Instead of letters they use slashes"...up to 31 "slashes" in some cases, which multiple radicals (about 74 of those exist) to boot..still sound easier than Spanish?
Come live here (in Japan) and see how many foreigners can actually read a newspaper, navigate the public transportation system or fill out an insurance form without any assitance. Among people living here 5 years or more, you'll find the number really low.
Sorry to flip out a little, but people who shrug off Japanese as an easy language have obvious not much exposure to it outside of anime.
Did the article mention anything about one of those hard drives having about 20 or so episodes of "Bang Bus" on it?
Because if it did, it wasn't mine.
How big is her rowboat? She'd have to pay for the seats it takes up.

Good luck

Here's one that'll help you help me: Alt-F4

Well, the PowerBook G5s are coming out next week...
Ok, next *next* week...

When I first read the title, I thought it *was* about the Mac...
First Apple going out of business, now Microsoft!
so who leaves their house?
> But even if you haven't, it's just stuff.
Yes, but it's *my* stuff.
I'd fake them out with my iPaq (lots of flashing lights and hey, it's WinCE anyway) and then bludgeon them with my trusty Newton.

I agree, except I used a PC card adapter for my microdrive to keep it from killing my camera's battery.
