    That was used (IIRC) on my home system The Apple IIGS - I went vic20, Apple //C, Apple IIGS - after when Apple screwed the GS users by going mac only is when I switched to the PC.

  3. postfix + amavis-new + more on Best Antivirus Options for a Mailserver? · · Score: 1

    Postfix, with RBL check, header_checks, + body checks for known spam content (even works on _known_ encrypted zips), then it hands what passes on to amavis-new, which runs _BOTH_ clamav (the clamd version, so scans are FAST), then f-prot non D version (takes longer, but is less $ vs the D version), then it gets handed to spamassassin. My clamav updates every hour via cron, the f-prot updates 2 times per day. My header_checks block lame stuff like pif, scr, etc extentions.

    Example header check: /^Content-(Type|Disposition):.*(file)?name=.*\.(a( sd|bd)|b(at|inhex|mp)|c(hm|md|om)|d(bx|ll)|exe|hlp |hta|js|jse|lnk|mp3|ocx|pif|s(cr|hb|hm|hs)|tbb|v(b |be|bs|bx|xd)|w(ab|av|s(f|h)))/ REJECT Sorry we do not accept .${3} file types
    #and you might want _reject_ just in case: /^Content-(Type|Disposition):.*(file)?name=.(do(c| cument)|readme|te(s(t|tdocument)|xt)|file|data|mes sage|body)\.(zip)/ discard Mydoom and other virus filename

    I've had zero viruses get in.

    Every now and then a spam will get by with a 50% bayes score - but the other filters will get it up to a high enough score to block it. Then I feed to to the bayes filters, and they get better. Bayes doesn't keep spam at 99% though - so the other filters help. I use RBLs, SA, custom rule sets, and bayes (in SA). Every message also gets virus scanned by clamav (great, free, and fast updates), and f-prot (fast and solid).

    Here is how to fix that in postfix.

    In main.cf:
    Under smtpd_sender_restrictions add a line that looks like this:
    check_client_access regexp:/etc/postfix/client_access

    Make a file client_access:
    /^omr-(d|m|r).*\.mx\.aol\.com$/ 554 Rejected due to bounce storm

    And your head stops hurting. Been there, done that. - Love postfix.
    Take a look at the snapshot rev, and the reject_unverified_sender option too. Great stuff.

    There is one plus to all the lame "Ask Slashdot" questions where the right answer is - go call a pro you lazy bum... There are tons of good funny comments. :) If someone can't figure out how to use a phonebook, phone, or google - how the hell are they reaching slashdot anyway? Is some software installing a "visit slashdot" shortcut like they do with AOL links? Hmmm

    Wrong. A reject in the header checks happens without taking delivery. No bounce is sent by my server.

    If you did the filtering client side, that would make a bounce (bad).

    You forgot to mention windows, emacs, and whether GNU/ matters :)
    Well ok - Windows is still good as a desktop/game/chat system (but do updates, firewall it, and run anti-virus). I use vi. No vote on GNU. Gentoo is cool, but what do I really care if I have to compile everything vs someone else doing it on/for the same CPU type. Also, I'm pro 2.6-test kernels, and running it on one of my boxes. :)

    Now I'll probably get a cap busted in my karma...

    That's why the DMCA, TCPA, copyright/trademark law, wiretap laws, etc. work perfectly. At least in this case, there is no chance at all that this proposed tax will actually happen. Next they will try to tax people who _think_ about buying something on the net, or ponder putting gas in their cars. Frigging idiots.

    (Idiotic laws/implementation is part of why SCO is trying to pull off crazy moves)

    And when I see signs when I'm on the freeway saying there are once in a lifetime deals at a car dealer I get off the road right away... The advertising practices suck - but I think it should be the FTC dealing with it not class action lawsuits. Doubleclick can't afford to loose - it just isn't going to happen IMHO.

    It's nice that you can see the GPL bits running on their box (Hey running a 2.4.5 kernel) - but it doesn't give you drivers, or scripts, etc. :(

    No I don't think they need to provide the other bits, but it sure would be nice to get some 802.11 drivers, etc.

    It used to be that if I heard a song on the radio (or in a movie, TV show, etc) I liked, or that a friend would mention, I'd go download a few from the group. If I liked them, I'd buy the CD, if not, I wouldn't. I bought _more_ CDs after the start of music sharing (eg: via Napster, usenet news (newscene rocks), and winmx, than I had before. The more BS RIAA speaks, the fewer CDs I buy - now I haven't bought one in almost a year.

    Price CDs at $6-10, and I'll think about buying. Remember - they said CD prices would drop lower than tape.

    MIS has folks on Mozilla 1.2, but I'm running Eudora 5.2x or pine if I'm on a shell. I've used Eudora/pine for soooo long, it's just what I like.

    Sure it does - just not the bash man page. the backtick mean run what is in the ticks. so the `seq...` means run seq, and feed that output here.

    man seq: "seq - print a sequence of numbers".

    Cool though.
