    FYI Microsoft has not demonstrated any infringing patents in Android and design patents are hardly as strong as you think. Apple lost it's suit against Microsoft over the trash can icon on the desktop in an OS.

    Hello Luddite, it's called Basic Research. Something that might not have a practical application or solve a practical problem. But that is not the job of basic research. Solving practical problems is the job of ENGINEERS. Engineers take basic research and find practical applications for that knowledge.

    There are also areas called Applied Science, which again take knowledge gained from research and apply it.

    Time for you to hand in your PhD.

    It's called source code. So you can continue to support it yourself or pay someone else to do that.

    See that's what companies used to do, hire programmers to develop software for them. The company retains the source code and can hire programmers from time to time to enhance or fix bugs.

    FOSS brings back that same idea.

    How do you think those loop holes got in there? What makes you think that any Republican will reform the tax code to take away loopholes that favor the rich? No Republican is going to bite the hand that feeds them. They are not going to eliminate tax codes that favor the Koch brothers, that allow corporations to send jobs overseas, that allow corporation to repatriate income at low low rates.

    Talk of reform is a smoke screen because nothing will happen.

    But you can end tax subsidies to oil corporations. You can end tax breaks to corporations that send jobs overseas. You can raise the corporate tax rate. You can tax income by hedge fund managers as real income like Reagan did. These are things that can be done.

    Fact: George W cut taxes in 2001 and went from a budget surplus to a budget deficit and ran a deficit every year in office. Fact: Employment did not recover. When George W Bush left office he had a net job loss. NO JOB GROWTH. Fact: Tax cuts for the rich did not create jobs. But it did cut revenue for the government which contributed trillions of dollars to the deficit. Fact: George W Bush kept two wars off the books, paid for them through supplemental spending bills and BORROWED money to finance them.

    There wasn't any credible intelligence on Iraq's supposed WMDs. Any evidence put forward was quickly refuted by the DOE and CIA and the international intelligence community. Yellow Cake Uranium and centrifuge tubes were debunked by experts. UN Weapons experts who were in Iraq said there were no WMDs.

    Afghanistan did not attack. The Taliban did not attack us. Al Qaeda attacked us. The Taliban would not hand over Bin Laden so we attacked them.

    Listen up douche bag the Japanese government upgraded the accident at the fukushima power plant to level 7. The accident is a MAJOR ISSUE. No amount of dick riding on your part is going to make that go away. We don't need assholes like you saying everything is ok. No it's not. This problem has been going on for a month and is not getting better. There are seriously health and environmental consequences here, as well as long term economic problems. Being a dick about it is not going to fix it. Being an apologist for an industry that has eschewed safety and oversight does not help fix the problem.

    You want people to trust nuclear power. You want people to believe nuclear power is a safe energy source. Then offer constructive suggestions to fix the problem. Admit there were problems with oversight, safety and design and work to fix those issues.

    Dude, if you are a .NET developer, you develop on Windows. No .NET developer would work on a 3rd party hack (Mono) to do .NET development. You use Windows. You have all the tools and environments you need. I know of no .NET developers who uses Mono. The only people who would use Mono would be Linux developers. If you want to push Linux as an alternative to Windows, then you would use Mono. But .NET developers, would not. Mono going away would in no way impair .NET. Again, it's about Microsoft. You're using Microsoft tools (Visual Studio), you are using Microsoft language (C#, .NET), you are using Microsoft OS (Windows).

    No one fucking cares about Mono.

    FYI .NET has been around since 2000. It has been touted as cross platform and cross language. That has not materialized in the past 10 years.

    No worries? Seriously go read the license agreements. Mono is not an official Microsoft project and is not recognized as such. Microsoft did not open up .NET. Microsoft did not provide indemnification to developers using Mono.

    Go consult a lawyer moron.

    Microsoft has not in any way officially endorsed or recognized Mono as a legitimate .NET project.

    LOL...except for the fact that Android phones are Linux based, which dominate the mobile market. So until Android stops using Linux and/or Microsoft ever passes Android, Linux beats Windows in the mobile market. It doesn't matter whether or not the user knows what OS their mobile phone uses, they are still buying more Android phones than Windows phones. That's the point. But thanks for making the argument that it doesn't matter if the phone uses Windows - which is not what Microsoft wants you to think. Microsoft thinks the underpinnings of the phone are important and that the user makes purchasing decisions based on that. Obviously they don't and the reason why Windows Phone 7 is in the toilet.

    dude the 90s are over.

    most companies have moved or are moving their apps to web/server based apps. their easier to develop, maintain and deploy. you're desktops can last alot longer with this approach and the only thing you need to worry about is the browser version you are using.

    and i guess the whole cloud thing is irrelevant? better tell Microsoft.

    also large corporations are moving more and more to mobile apps. because there is a need to access information from the field and record information from the field - people are using desktops and laptops less and less and their smart phones more and more. if you don't think corporations don't see the appeal of the iPhone or iPad you are horrible mistaken. so again the information will be available via web app.

    So welcome to the age of mobile computing. the desktop has become a dinosaur. and FYI office is not a going concern, most people use only the basic features.
