I can. I had a PC that was infected with malware. It was turned not into a spam zombie, but into a torrent seeder and FTP server.
Found the stuff in a hidden folder disguised to look like a Java update in the windows folder.
In my case it was disney movies and music, not CP (thank goodness), but the same thing could have happened to her. Would jive with the HDD replacement too. I noticed the issue because the machine lagged like a bitch, and it all looked like OS related problems. I could see someone installing a new HDD to solve that type of "problem". -nB
one flaw in your argument: they *are* legal currency. no one uses them as such because their metal value is higher than their tender value, but legal currency they are.
This guy's problem: his contractors sold the coins at metal value, not face value, then did not report the earnings, thus evaded taxes. He's being held accountable as inciting it (whether that's the party line or not). -nB
FWIW my site: farmersreallysucks.com doesn't keep anything. It makes my stats more amorphous, but I only retain the first two octets of IP info, and that only till I do the log summaries. Fo my (currently borked) hit counter by the lawyers and Farmers, I compute that on the fly with a CGI script in an iFrame.
on my other sites that are less controversial I keep standard logs of 30 days, and that's it. It's only an issue when I get a DOS attack, which only happens every so often.
When I had a more interactive site that actually accepted comments, it wasn't that hard to blind who made a comment Vs. their IP address. Of course blinding the IP made it hard to filter spam, so ultimately I switched to the mail-in comments, rather than the free for all I had before.
Nice. I'm still debating what to do when I retire. If all goes well I'll be done working in 17 years, then it's time to go do stuff. I'm thinking about an RV of some sort to travel the states in.
Depending on what altitude you actually reach neutral buoyancy on Venus, you may not have that much temperature to deal with, just acid... Garbage disposal would be fairly easy, just drop it if it's not recyclable. -nB
The last new agency I can recall is the Committee for State Security. They were gifted all kinds of previously independent agencies. The benefits are equally unclear on all sides of that monolith.
no cable or sat here. if I could download alacart discover et.al. shows via RSS or some other mechanized form, store them indefinitely (same as most DVRs), with no DRM so I can use whatever player I want, even if the quality is WS-SDTV to save on bandwidth (as opposed to 720/1080p) I would pay. Ideally they would use a AllOfMP3 model whereby you pay for the quality and quantity of shows you download. Say ~$5.00/GB? I'd do that. That's be 2-3 shows at the basic resolution for $5.00. -nB
I'm with you on this. I still have dreams of finally getting my hands on a '67 Nova SS fuel prices be damned. I'll even smuggle in Tetra-ethyl lead if I have to. -nB
Also IIRC there was a teenaged couple who took naughty pictures of each other. While it was legal for them to breed like rabbits, it was illegal to take those photos, thus the guy was deemed a sex offender. while not as absurd as holding mom and dad liable for CP with baby pics, still dumb. Age of consent for sex should == age of consent for all things related to sex (IMHO).
Not intending to start a flame war over age of consent here, just trying to add more fuel to the absurd CP fire:-) -nB
Putting leashes on people gets you in trouble around here. I use this nifty combination of technologies called a fence, gate, and lock. She can wander in the front yard, putter around in the back in the garden, but can not leave without going through the main house. (She has her own cottage in the back, ~400 Sq Ft studio). -nB
As rare as ingesting two Canadian gees "right" after takeoff, with no suitable landing strips, in highly populated territory?
I posit that the rarity of unanticipated incidents is much closer to the rarity of crashes (excluding plane to plane / plane to FOD contact on the tarmac) than you think it is.
No point really, I think we both agree it is rare;) -nB
So the flip side: I have a client that is three years past due on paying me for hosting & registrations...
(yeah, I know, shame on me mostly).
Anyway, yes she's three years past due on 5 active domains (all redir to one site). I've been covering her, but in reality I'm planning on taking all but one domain and "parking them". Nice older gal, trying to make some money selling artwork. I'm willing to charity case one domain for her, but not five.
Now the million dollar question: Am I a sleeze for parking the other four domains and trying to sell them? (I think not). -nB
weapons age and must be refreshed, much like computers. target acquisition systems get better and should be upgraded/replaced (now we can destroy the world several times over to a precision of < 1m Vs ~1Km) enemies get better defenses requiring an increasingly better offense to stay at parity.
"At some point in the conversation, Mr. Ballmer said: 'Just tell me it's not Google,'' Lucovosky said in his statement. Lucovosky replied that he was joining Google. 'At that point, Mr. Ballmer picked up a chair and threw it across the room hitting a table in his office,' Lucovosky recounted, adding that Ballmer then launched into a tirade about Google CEO Eric Schmidt. 'I'm going to f***ing bury that guy, I have done it before, and I will do it again. I'm going to f***ing kill Google.' Schmidt previously worked for Sun Microsystems and was the CEO of Novell."
IIRC Mars is also seeing an increase in average atmospheric temperature. And also AFAIK this increase is relatively consistent with what we see on earth (expressed as % change not absolute temp delta).
So....
Methinks that there may be more than humans at work here.

how much did the bus cost?
and how old is it?
It's a nice option when you need that screen real estate, but yeah, by default they should not be hidden.

My new P45 system has a display port and a DVI for the built in dual head video rather than the traditional DVI/VGA combo...

no, he did a doggie sandwich with pluto and goofey. ;-)
If you get rid of AC you'll get rid of lots of noise, true.
you'll also get rid of people who post inside info...

you're right.
I'd forgotten that part.
I knew I was missing something because I remember it being the most absurd case I'd ever heard of.

You effectively beat me to it anyway, but I'll still add my two cents:
He doesn't fly a tomcat, he pilots "Tom Cruise Missiles"

As to balmer I present the following evidence towards open mockery:

I rest my case...
because it's a 20 year old protocol?
I shall stand corrected then.
FWIW it's not that I don't believe earth is warming up, it's that I don't think humans are solely responsible.

not entirely true...
It lets off CO2 in production as you slake the limestone, but in setting up it absorbs O2.
