  1. "Best" on Ask Slashdot: What Is Your Horrible IT Boss Story? · · Score: 2, Interesting

Your best worker should get a raise.
Your worst worker should stay to do the dirty work.
The average worker is the one you (may) want to move into management.

My gut feeling tells me recutting for mobile will lead to no good.
However; how is this any different from movies cut to 4:3 a few decades ago, and (re-)cut to 16:9 somewhat more recent?

Also vinyl records sound better than CD's. The pops and cracks add character, man!

Pops and cracks are bad, but they're not nearly as bad as the excessive compression typical for CD's.

  8. Heck, even if it's NOT stored as UTF-8, it should still be trivial to fix. You could probably write a browser extension to detect and fix als the ñ's, ß's and ä's.

  9. I'd be okay wish such a feature as long as the grace period ended as soon as the first reply to your post was made.
This isn't facebook, where you can edit your post to make repliers look stupid after they point out your errors.

  11. "expressly prohibiting its use to target action by local regulators going forward"

But they're not going forward now are they? That's exactly what the app prevents them from doing. /sarcasm

Regardless, the statement is overly specific and pretty much meaningless as a result.
Why not just state you won't be operating without a license any more?
They effectively promised to continue operating without a license but use different tools to obstruct regulators with local responsibilities.

The focus shouldn't be on this tool, it's that they were knowingly and willfully breaking the law.

Afteral, why would you need a screen, speakers, input or output if it runs exactly the same on computers that do have those?

Software will not run exactly the same on every device, because the capabilities of the devices differ.
If they didn't, we wouldn't have different devices in the first place.

  19. I regularly interview interns. Usually simply talking about their own projects is enough. If I ask to explain why they made certain choices and they can give coherent reasons, they usually have a decent idea of what they're doing.

Obviously an intern isn't quite the same as an employee, but I find that simply asking people to explain something they should by all means understand is a pretty solid method of weeding out the crap. You'd be surprised by the amount of people unable to give a decent reason why they choose framework A over framework B. I would have been happy with "I already knew B and wanted to learn about A".
