    Sure, that decision is easy to make, if you know that boots A will last 5+ years and boots B will last 6 months. But you never know what you are going to get, unless you put extensive effort into researching options, and then you still aren't sure. You could easily spend 10x as much buying gold plated turds.

    Ehh, that links to a page with Terms and Conditions, which states in many words that the contents of the page are covered by intellectual property rights. Where can you get the laws in full with no terms an conditions?

    How much did you spend on your much better sound, amortized over the number of movies you watch?

  9. Well, then, they could probably get an estimate of "access time" from the amount of dust on the computer, skin oil on the keys, etc.

  10. I think forensic analysts will mount your disks in read only before mucking with them.

    A better solution would probably be to have a password that decrypts only part of the drive which contains decoy data.

    I may not be an expert in orbital mechanics, but I think seasons can be reasonably predicted.

  13. Mathematicians solved this problem long ago. It's called the order of operations. We just need to start using parentheses to indicate grouping.

  20. Most people around the world are poor, and they probably can't afford legitimate access to US video programming. Hollywood should be happy that foreigners are pirating their movies. It helps keep down competition from places like Bollywood. America benefits from exporting its culture abroad.

  23. Yeah. The last time I saw an old asteroids cabinet, I was spellbound. The vector graphics were crisp and had smooth diagonal lines, and the bullets were awesomely bright with an ethereal glow that you see on old oscilloscopes. I don't think you can get that kind of brightness with an LCD.
