ECC, RAID and some sort of parallel computation should be in place for voting systems. It should be possible to run the same code on multiple processors and check that the results are the same in real-time.
It will still be exciting to watch as driverless tech is new. When it's a mature technology, maybe interest will wane, but then there'll always be an new new thing to watch.
Article is intentionally misleading. It's not outright false, but it's written so that a casual reader will think this happened: Blackberry transfers employees to sham company. Sham company (Blackberry) fires workers.
What happened is that Blackberry transfers employees to Ford motor company of Canada. Blackberry informs employees (after arranging the transfer) that the years of service do not transfer over, and they don't get any severance.
Still seems scummy, but not the same level of scummy.
Those B-12 supplements usually have something like 36666% of the RDA per pill. So I just take them like once a week, and I figure I'm still getting plenty. I know I won't absorb all of the B12, but even if I absorb a couple percent, I'm good.
Oh, it's very dishonest. H-1B lures in workers from other countries who want to immigrate. It's a "dual intent" visa. It's not a immigrant visa, but holders are allowed to pursue an immigrant visa. But of course, there's a backlog of EB-3 visas, and there are many more H-1Bs given out than EB-3s. So we allow US companies to dangle a piece of fruit in front of people to exploit their labor.
Immigrants statistically start a lot of businesses and therefore provide jobs. It's probably the risk-taking attitude that brought them into another country. H-1B holders aren't immigrants though. They are temporary workers. They can't start businesses, and therefore just take up jobs. H-1B exists purely to benefit corporations.
There are certain limits on the number of EB visas--something like 40000 per category. Also, there's a per country limit of 7% of the total visas. There's a big backlog of people trying to get in, especially from India, China, Mexico, Phillipines. If we get rid of H1Bs, we need to increase the caps on EBs. Or just get rid of the caps.
You don't have protection from self-incrimination. You have protection from being compelled to incriminate yourself. The reason that right exists is to protect you from being tortured or otherwise coerced into confessing. With that in mind, it's clear that reading your pacemaker logs doesn't fit under that condition.
Better leave idealism out of the decision, and base it on cost-benefit. The cost depends on how acceptable the solution is to the public. You will get demonstrations and targeted disruption by banning homosexuality. I'm vegan myself, but I know you'll get widespread riots if you enforced a vegan lifestyle, and you wouldn't last long. The goal is to try to find a solution that allows smokers to continue to get their fix, but prevent new smokers from starting.

The answer is to not buy new things because we don't know what to do with them later.

This is not an issue of privacy, but an issue of copyright.

Your last employer was good to you but you decided to just burn that bridge.
I thought the whole repressed memory thing was a complete myth. Aren't you way more likely to remember a traumatic memory than a mundane one?

But the slave trade still exists. It's just underground.

Because H1B is governmental interference with the market, whereas illegal immigration is the market acting in spite of governmental interference.
I don't have sympathy for the passenger for giving his keys to a drunk woman and getting in the car.
You weren't IT for the NSA, were you? It should not be easy to walk off with classified backup tapes.
We've had disappearing ink for centuries. What good is this?

Wow, I got to hand it to the investigators. Thinking outside the box. I'm being serious.
Being bored isn't so bad. I find I can occupy my brain with day dreaming or full dreaming.
Of all the places to do social engineering, I should expect China to do something about smoking. It's a real problem there.
Am I the only one who sees "LIBERATE US" in the name Libratus?
Be scared.

They don't cause any problems in the bar. The problems are when they drive home.
Hey, Nevada isn't being dumb. It's lucrative being a den of sin.
As long as you have smoking, you have second hand smoke though.
