    PETA is anti-free all on their own. By definition, they want to people to either voluntarily, or by restriction of law, to behave in their version of "Ethical" or face serious consequences. Most reasonable people oppose animal cruelty and torture. But PETA's definition and most everyone else's are far different things, as in No pets, No work animals, Veganism for all.

    It is a silly, shabby, and soon to be ineffective ploy for attention whoring.

    Liar.

    It is not free software. If you want to promote free software, you also have to make it available to parties or uses you might disagree with. Otherwise it is not free.

    Which is why the only free software is public domain.

    My favorite CD data with audio was Heroes of Might and Magic 2. I remember taking that along in family road trips to play in the car's CD player. Yeah, I was a kid at the time, and HOMM2's tracks didn't offend my parent's ears.

    If you owe someone money, e.g. you ordered something from a merchant and received it, but didn't pay for it yet, then they are obligated to accept cash to settle the debt because it is legal tender. But if you haven't bought something yet, then you don't owe them anything yet, and the merchant is NOT obligated to take your money for it. See the difference?

    Damn right. I've been waiting for a cure for valley fever for years. Been taking expensive meds for years which only halt the progression of the disease. I was very hopeful of this new drug called Nikkomycin Z, which eradicated the disease in mice and has not produced dangerous side effects in phase I human testing. I was rather depressed when I heard that studies were terminated due to lack of funding and recruitment challenges. It's true, nobody will fund research for a cure, even at this point, when probability for success is high.

    How do you calculate the true cost? Rather, how do you arrive at a legal judgment of the true cost, given many varying estimates?

    You don't need all that equipment to feed yourself. The equipment makes you more efficient so that you can feed all the city-dwellers with your large plots of land.

    But, to feed yourself and your family, you don't need fertilizers, tractors, etc. Unless the peasants of the past had some secret technology we didn't know about.

    Heh, we lost that punch years ago. Anyone remember Asteroids in the arcade with its glorious vector monitor? The bullets were just dazzling against the black of space. Even modern monitors without local dimming can't do that.

    It depends on the company. Company cultures vary, so look around and act like other people. If they hang out with each other, then try to hang out with them. If they wear suits, maybe you need to as well. Gauge the boss. Is he chummy? Professional? Act similarly, unless he's an asshole. Don't be an asshole.

    What is rational behavior depends on certain assumptions. Western game theory usually assumes that people are selfish, and calculates rational behavior based on that. But, game theory fails to account for altruism and teamwork, and often doesn't do a good job of predicting human behavior. This isn't because humans are irrational, but because the theory is based on incorrect assumptions. If my goal is to survive at all costs, then my rational behavior will naturally be selfish. But if my goal is betterment of humankind, then my rational behavior is different. The goal itself can't be fully rationalized. There will always be some arbitrary element to it.

    How common is it really? As far as I know, it's very rare for corporate officers to face criminal prosecution for crimes by the corporation.

    So, maybe most people don't use over 90% of MATLAB's features. Does that mean MATLAB is bloated? Well, the thing is, everyone has different needs, and use a different 10%. Granted, most people have no use for 64 bit integers, but I'm sure somebody does, and somebody is mightily annoyed that their software that cost thousands doesn't do it.

    The GP was probably using implied parentheses, ie, (a+b)+c != (c+b)+a.
    In this case, the inequality could be due to either non-commutativity or non-associativity, but in this case, it is due to non-associativity.
