    Man's quest for galaxial knowledge is amazing. Even though I'm totally dense about space and stuff, I believe that this thirst is really romantic. Infinite space. But come to think of this, with half the world's population still below the poverty line and with many species dangeroulsy on the verge of extinction and with many hazards threatening us from all sides due to pollution, global warming, green-house and what not, is it really necessary to dump so many funds into space? Why not leave it to the next generations and we take up the challenge of preserving our own planet.

    I always thought Firefox is the best browser when it came to perfect rendering of CSS. But damn, my browser (Firefox 1.0.1) failed the test. Any idea how I can run Safari on GNU/Linux :-)

    1. Regular crashes (couple of times every hour would do) accompanied by "You want to submit a bloody report?" messages.
    2. No support for *any* multimedia format except for WMA, WMV and ASF. Who cares for MP3 anyway.
    3. It would be really nice to get a "Keyboard not detected - press enter ton continue" message for real in Longhorn :-)

    Microsoft is capable of doing anything, including but not limited to bending the law and breaking the rules. I'm kinda suspicious that even the file names you play in WMPlayer are logged. Be careful the next time you play sh!t-p!ss-f*ck-c*nt.

    That is the stupidest reason if there ever was one. What are they going to use? No to Windows because the logo doesn't hail from the windowed houses of EU and not Linux becuase Torvalds moved out to USA. Guess people will just have to dump out their computers.

    OK. May be I was taking into considerating only the India market. And now I rephrase, "we need more 3D games to attract a Winblows user". But did you get my point? Linux does lack some serious games.

    Beyond doubt, we need better and more 3D games to attract a normal Joe towards using GNU/Linux. Even I reboot to winblows for the games. First step would be to port the existing games to Linux, but this cannot be done by the community. We need help from the gaming companies and I am are more than willing to pay for some nice games like Counter Stike, Half Life and NFS Underground.

    Well said. I've been working with a 600MHz Celeron with 128MB RAM and 10 GB Drive - this might actually be brand new hardware compared to some other hardcore geek's hardware. But still, I was competing with guys who got P4's and Athlon 2800+'s with 512-1Gig of RAM. With the Moore's law in order, your brand new hardware becomes obsolete in 18 months - or sooner. So why buy new hardware. Keep the old one intact and make it work. Well said - real geeks make it work.

    I got about 6-8 meters of cable behind my computer. This may not be much for some hardcore geeks but it's enough to give me problems. But all problems aside, the sight of all those cables at a workplace seems amazing to me :-)

    Richard M Stallman and all his GNU band. Linus Torvalds. The softwares I use everyday are: 1. Linux Kernel 2.6.8 2. Emacs 3. GNU Bash 4. GNU Coreutils 5. Mozilla (firefox/thunderbird) Also, I'd like to thank all the Fedora developers. Hoping to see Core 3 soon :-)

    Woooow buddy. Here in India, we consider it a bad practise and disrespectful to insult someone on their birthday :) So you a VB programmer, huh? To quote ESR,
    Visual Basic is especially awful. Like other Basics it's a poorly-designed language that will teach you bad programming habits. No, don't ask me to describe them in detail; that explanation would fill a book. Learn a well-designed language instead.

    So the Linux server crashed, huh? That's a pretty lame excuse. I'm a part-time administator for a server running httpd, file-sharing, DNS and squid. And the uptime is 55 days and still running. Come on buddy, see what we got here :)

    Not to mention the fact that the Linux kernel itself lacks any support for any type of journaled filesystem, memory protection, SMP support, etc,

    Well well well, what age are you in? What are ext3 and reiferfs? No SMP support? My server is a IBM Xeon Dual processor with hyper-threading. however, from the looks of it, the Microsoft "shared source" program seems to offer all of the same freedoms as the GPL.
    You got to be kidding me.
    Note to self: Alter the companies for which this anonymous coward does consulting.

    Well, for all practical purposes, 1USD = 10INR. Now do the math. I can eat a heavy meal for Rs.20. A coke costs me Rs.5 and a burger Rs.15. Wake up man. You sound like a typical Indian parent. When a son earns $500 in US, the parents here are happy because their son is earning Rs. 25,000 :)

    During the recruitment week in our university, one of the companies that visited was CA(Computer Associates). CA guys gave an options. The students can chose either one of C, C++ and Java for their exam. Well, 80% of the guys went for C, because it's their `first language'. Rest of them went for C++ and only 1 student out of 120+ students opted for Java. To cut a short story shorter, he got selected after a technical and HR interviews which were cakewalks compared to other guys' interviews. Well, if a language's gonna pay me 25,000 bucks(Indian Rupee) a month, I'd be more than happy to go for it. Cool or not.
