  1. until you throw other colors in the mix on The Red Team Wins · · Score: 1

Nonsense and poppycock. Here's why. Assume you have a Red and Blue team. Now assume that the players are all males. Because the players are male you have one huge elephant in the room which cancels out your "color-win" theories. - A large percentage of males are color deficient or color blind. Now let's make this even more confusing for the color clinds: introduce two more teams; a green and a light brown. Now you have thoroughly confused the color blind males. Let's make it even more possible to disprove your color hypotheses by controlling the teams so that all the players on all teams have at least some variation of color blindness. In order for something to reach "theory" status in science it must be controlled and as many variables as possible thrown at it in an attempt to DISPROVE it. When that happens, and third parties do the same or even other tests (peer review) it is elevated to the status of theory, which is the closest thing to "fact" that science will say. Simply because some studies show that "red" has an advantage does NOT mean that all possibilities were actually thrown at it to disprove it. You can find all sorts of studies on a myriad of topics with a conclusion but that doesn't mean their conclusion is true or even sound. For example, if the media and Victoria's Secret is believed then it would seem that that late 20th century men (and apparently women want to be like) preferred tall women with blond hair, blue eyes and a medium to large breast build, yet every weekend there are marriages to woman with dark hair, dark eyes and flat chests who their mate thinks is the most gorgeous woman on the planet.

"the hackers took over?" - what a bunch of molarchy. I and the rest of my generation cut our teeth on Commodore64's and AppleII's. Those had no gui, or wysiwyg tools in the beginning. BASIC was taught in 7th grade as a class! Kid's today don't even have "computer science" class where they actually learn how to use a computer and why it does and how it does what it does. Instead they have "MSFT Office class". As a result they don't know that the Word icon is actually telling the computer to run c:\program files\office\word.exe (for example) so they are stumped when an icon gets deleted and wonder why they get viruses after using KAzaa so much. OLPC is an attempt to go back to really teaching computers. The system isn't "hard" it's just not familiar because we've let MSFT hold people's hand to freaking long which has made us all lapdogs.

nonsense. "e-paper" isn't "rapidly" gaining momentum at all. Years ago I had a Palm Pilot and I used it for note taking in classes, writing rough drafts, and e-book writing and I loved it. Then for rather unknown reasons the format just died. People wanted to carry stupid cell phones instead which don't have near the screen size nor a stylus. If "e-paper" is actually advancing it will come from the only truly useful phone/palm-pilot/mp3 player device ever made - the iPhone.

EULA's on hardware like the game consoles should be illegal. We buy those, they are not returnable later if we discover a feature of it we don't agree with. They shouldn't give a damn if I mod it or even find a way to make it control the temperatures on my refrigerator. I have had it with these proprietary attitudes companies have and have slowly come to fully understand "freedom" that OSS-only people talk about. The problem is that with DRM chips like this starting to come out its only a matter of time before the computer motherboards have EULA's on them like game consoles do as well and forbid us to use them for anything but an "approved" OS. The stupid code built into DELL motherboards and their version of Windows is bad enough as it is. Equally stupid is having to re-activate windows everytime we change hardware. I even had to call MSFT for re-activation after I upgraded RAM!

they won't learn. The announcement is just a marketing ploy to get the suits at the software companies to pressure the motherboard makers to include this chip thereby causing Bushnell to make lots of money. The end result will be (as usual) that the paying customer will have a bitch of a time actually installing the game as it will likely be like windows and other encrypted games that only work on the first set of hardware installed and only activate once. IOW the legitimate user will be inconvinienced while the "pirates" have an easier time using it. So then the legitimate user will seek out the pirated versions to actually play the game they bought.

Well it depends on how the word is used. In general I agree with your assessment of the word but in broader academic sense it applies to any religion but the difference between cult and religion is something more subtle - secrecy and mystery. It is when one considers secrecy that even groups like the Mormons fall into the category. Granted, their secrets are actually out due to those who escaped it but the Mormons, like the Scientologists do their best to discredit them and damage control the "secrets" they spill. In contrast, we can go to a public library to find out the full doctrines of the Catholics, Lutherans, and various evangelicals. Granted we can do that for Scientology and Mormonism too but the difference is they discredit or condone only those they "approve." In other words they don't allow independent inquiry and full disclosure.

It's just the typical Democratic party cry wolf "we gotta do something!!!!" syndrome again. In this case it's also putting Sen. Biden back in the spotlight after his poor performance in the Iowa caucus. Political moves aside though let's think about what they are really asking. What is child porn? The government even lacks a definition of "porn" much less child. I have a serious problem believing that "child porn" is an epidemic requireing the black helecoptors so to speak. What likely is popular though is teen-fascination which psychiatry has an entirely different definition for. Our society in fact is geared toward that even between cheerleaders and dancers being just short of being nude, Disney channel turning tweens into glamored up pop stars, and shows like Dawson's Creek, Gossip Girls and the like having more adult themes than Desperate Housewives. This is nothing new though; in fact society used to marry their women off between 14 and 17 anyway. My point is I really wonder if real child porn actually is as bad as the fear mongers claim or if people's collective conscious is simply equating teen-fascination with it when they hear of those cases (which has increasingly been from female teacher - male student lately). The result of which is the "we gotta do something!!!" panic which then grants the government sweeping powers to do all kinds of spying with a fictional and ultimately false pretense.
