"Does it mean that it might soon become possible to order Dell's full line of personal systems with Linux installed, or no OS/FreeDOS to save the Microsoft tax?"
I went to a supermarket a while ago, and was greeted with a digital display for the price of everything on every shelf. Things that were on special had a larger, paper sign in addition to the little display.
Exactly what you're describing can be done even with technology available (and in use) right now.

Or prehaps 26 years after "Hewlett-Packard announces release of its first personal computer." Or maybe the writer intends to make bigger news than when "Warner Brothers [showed] the first color newsreel" (1948) Or maybe it's the writers birthday. Or maybe it's the first day they intend to be awake after the New Year celebrations Or maybe it's to bring down IT infastructure just as we're getting back to work just after the Holiday Celebrations end.
The possibilites are endless, and there are far more logical explanations than "Sober was written by a free software fanatic, it's true it's true!"
What I'd really like to see would be an equivilant of the "run" command I get in windows... Windows+R, and any time I can type in the path for that folder I'm looking for.
And I'm not looking for the bs answer "well it's faster to use your mouse anyway" because it isn't.
Stability issues with the software aren't usually the problem; it's stability issues with the OS and the environment it's run on.
In my school, we are heavy with Thin Clients running Windows Terminal Services. All the software is stable; whether it be Studio MX, MS Ofice or Firefox. But the servers frequently die or run at a complete crawl or standstill.
Because what you can do is draw a horrible representation of the photo you want, say for arguments sake in Paint, which is very vauge. You want a photo that is like this.
I tried it with a horribly drawn plane flying into the sunset (A vauge shilouette of a plane, and orange background with yellow circle on it). Admittadly not all of the images were right, but a lot of them were exactly what I wanted to see.
Don't worry about the price tag; give it a few months. If their previous attempt at a MP3 player phone is anything to go by, they'll be pretty cheap (or at least, not much more expensive than a similaraly sized MP3 player) in a few months time.
The 5510 went from being one of the most expensive phones in the shop to being the cheapest within a few months
For the record: the "MP3" player function on the 5510 sucked. It was unstable, and I found that when there was silence/near silence in a track, the weird format that the phone used cut it out completely (as in: there would be a jump in the song through the quiet bit). The bundled software was pretty bad (but not as bad as SonicStage) and it would convert your MP3's to some weird format (I forget what that format was...)
I still use the phone though. But the MP3 player function is avoided.
If prohibition is proven to not work for adults, what makes you assume that this will work on minors (more specifically; teenagers) any better?
It's like everything else. Take away what they want; and they find another way to get it. Be it some way around the blocking chip; or just a simple "Billys mom doesn't care what he plays, we'll go there!" solution.
Technology isn't a replacement for parenting; but in this case; it isn't even a valid supplement.
Consider these. It's a cheap DIY method to make a ~15 dB gain dish, with Line of Sight for between 3 and 5 kilometers (1.8 to 3 miles). They aren't particularaly prone to wind and such, but may not last too well out in the weather.
Was this also the show with all the funky remote viewing and stuff in it? Or am I thinking something else.
Mod parent up for keeping bored teenage boys happy.
To be honest, I never intended that post to get an insightful mod. It wasn't an attempt at insight.

Sure, it might soon be possible.

Alright, who's been trying to start a war with pluto?
True, but you gotta admit, the Google Maps interface is far nicer.
That thing is awesome. Does exactly what I was looking for, thankyou :)
Stuck on 10.3 because I'm on outdated hardware - a 233mhz iMac (fear the extreme power!) - so sadly spotlight is out of the question.

Works well enough for file management; but I will agree it isn't great.
On windows, we can do this with the start bar.
Start a drag, move the mouse down to the title of the window on the start bar, drag over the formerly-obscured window.
Do none of you phreaking get it? He was making a phreaking joke!
Dreamweaver is great if you want to get into designing the pages, quickly, with almost no learning curve.
And three widescreen displays would provide more screen real estate than four normal monitors.
Athlon 64 hardware is comparable in price to Pentium 4 hardware.
Based on your argument, what kind of idiot would overclock a Pentium 4?
Never in schools have I ever used any educational specific software, with the possible exception of a typing tutor program.
When I am in class, the applications I will be using will be the Microsoft Office suite, and Internet Explorer.

Give it a shot, I think you'll be surprised.

You should be in a padded cell, but someone forgot to close it.
Other than the one one I got at my house, my mom put a couple of games on there and I play it...
