i think that the original 14 years (with option of exteneding to 28) was about the right ammount of time for a copyright. after the 14/28 years, it goes into public domain permentaly.
that's just my opinion.
another idea would be the life of the artist. when the artist dies, all their works enter the public domain. it's certainly better than "life or artist +75 years" that they're using that allows companies to grab full profit for 75 years.
i think i remember the RIAA presidant saying something like "the IP industry is one of the largest industries in the United States." and invterview with CPU magazine i think. i'll have to find that issue.
Gay bashing is now a socially acceptable form of discrimination in this country.
sadly, that is all too true it seems. i personally don't have a problem with religion itself. just the ones who follow it the wrong way (IMO). and their argument is really shakey (again IMO. not meaning to insult) as their arguement is "this book says it's wrong so it is."
just about every religion agrees on the basics. the 10 commandment and such.
one particular brand i encountered goes off if i carry in my library card. they lost a bunch of customers over that screw up and replaced the things with a different brand.
i agree that they did a pretty damn good job of LOTR, with the few exceptions (most of the screwups were in the first half of the first movie (before frodo reaches rivendell), like they messed up bilbo's speech. and they left out the retaking of the shire, which was one part i really liked.)
same thing the HP, i liked the movies, but just a number of minor errors/omitions that i notice as i read the books.
one thing that really annoys me is people saying "i saw the movie, so i know the book." even the best book-->movie conversion screws up a few things.
i remember an interview with one of the apolo guys. he was asked what he was thinking just before lift off. "i was thinking, wait a sec, these things are built by the lowest bidder.."
the original term was "jour rig" IIRC. "jour" is french for "day" so hence "rigged for the day" is the raw translation. language shifted, and "jury rig" became the new spelling of it
in which case, for me, it isn't an option. no broadband, period. DSL, cable, nada. except satilite, which would be a Bad Thing, as i use my bandwidth for gaming mostly.
well, for my $0.02, i don't see how the leaks of that harmed apple in anyway. as far as i see it, it's acted as free advertising and has generated public interest in their products. get people interested=people buy stuff.
i personally don't much mind spam, as much as i did wheb i would be gettig 5 within an hour. now, i rarely get more than 3 a day. and they just get filtered into the jumk folder.
right idea. saddam needed to be removed from power
wrong motives (oil)
bad implimentation. while i can't think of a better idea, the war in iraq isn't real great. what 1.2 billion a day in costs? also IMO, we are pushing democrasy on them pretty fast, going from a tyranical police state to democrasy is a little sudden. they need some transition period. gradually introduce freedoms. it prevents the conservitive religious elements from making too much noise about the sudden changes, and thus calling on the terrorists to blow shit up.
well, i am canadian, and as long as the vote isn't before augest, i will be voting. i keep track of politics most of the time up here, unlike most my age.
presently, the liberals are on shakey ground with the sponsership scandal (and the inquirery is a joke. they've so far spent $100 million to figure out where about $60 million went).
the conservitives (party to beat if/when the liberals go down) have a bad history (they made most of the national debt, which the liberals have been paying off for over a decade), and looks like more of the same (their budget makes no sense. how do you lower taxes, increse funding and have things still balance? they seem to insisting that 2+2=3). but they are getting power as most people zone out once they hear "tax cuts".
the NDP hasn't got a shot in hell of getting into power. it's that simple. they're a good party and they do a good job here in saskatchewan, they don't have a hope on the national level.
so, i'll be voting liberal. lesser of all the evils. sure, they've ignored the west for years, but they have done tremendious good for the country. and i'm willing to give the new guy (paul martin) a fair shot at it. he's better than the alternitives.
and also, something i forgot in the last post, canada (in name anyway) came into being in 1792 i think. upper (british) and lower (french) canada. still a british colonly, but it was canada.
hmm. i was fairly sure (and my history teacher agrees) that it was actually a canadian milita that actually set the blaze, who then hightailed it back to canada. they lit it up as a reminder. "don't try that again".
and for the record, most US history books don't even mention that the war of 1812 ever happened.
there people who fought for your indenpendance would be the british colonists, who then later refered to themselves as americans when they won, as the british basically said "screw it. we can win this war, but it's gonna take too much time, money, and we'll have trouble with our major source of income." so, they told them they can go and make their own country, and allowed them to retain a resonable economic relation ship with them.
well,y opinion is either make it al year or simply chuck it. it makes it a pain for us who don't buy into it, like me in saskatchewan. as far as i know, it causes no real benifits and only disorients people for several days after as their body clocks need to reset and get up ealier and goto bed later.
on that matter, does the savings of it even match the reduction of worker productivity in about 1 week after the daylight savings time slock change?
i remember reading a story in a magazine about the first public demo of a force-feedback joystick. the game that was being played (doom) crashed and the joystick went beserk. if i remember rightly, the joy using the thing ended up with some broken fingers. moderen joysticks have a much less forcefull implimentations of this, but it askes this, what if the game crashes?
leeches are still used in moderen medicine. sometimes old is a good thing. many old herbal remidies have been found that they do really work, though a roughly equal number have been debunked, so take all with a grain of salt and chew well.
i think that humans evolved, though, if you think about the odds, they're pretty long that we even exist, so i personaly don't think that such a thing could be achived without outside influance.
secondly, what happened at the start of the universe, just before the big bang? where did all the matter come from? how long had it been there? what caused the explosion to occur? it all fits in somewhere.
the answers in the book of life are at the back. but you can't just flip ahead.
What is a 'good' length of time for copyrights?

a worker who travels and/or is hired to work on a day-to-day basis.
this is why i love this language, however often i may mangle it.

well, IIRC, the whole problem was casued by two things
1. coil in the oxygen tank was a old one which was desinged to use a lower voltage.
2. oxygen tank tempature gadge maxed outr too low.
the original term was "jour rig" IIRC. "jour" is french for "day" so hence "rigged for the day" is the raw translation. language shifted, and "jury rig" became the new spelling of it
Two wrongs do not a right make.
but 38 wrongs squared, divided by 93i+23 wrongs, multiplied by a certain formula, do make a right
sadly, the goverment thinks so too.
unless you live in a small rural area

Copyright reform could very likely get shoved onto a back burner.
why not clear off the stove?
well, we can always come down there and burn it again. who knows? maybe we can get rid of bush in the fire!

i personally subscribe to both in a sense.
