    Fifth Element was not only a good movie, but it was visually engaging enough to be a prime candidate for an HD release. In fact, the Superbit DVD release of Fifth Element is widely considered to have some of the best picture quality of any DVD.

    You don't "see gravity." You see objects fall. Likewise, you can see organisms change over time. Furthermore, natural selection has been observed as the agent of evolution, whereas neither Higgs Bosons nor gravitons have been observed at all. We know that our understanding of evolution is imperfect, but we know that our understanding of gravity is in some way fundamentally flawed, since our current understanding of it is incompatible with other theories. In many ways, our understanding of evolution is better than our understanding of gravity. A layperson might not be aware of this, but they might not even be aware that gravity is an attraction between all mass objects.

    Unfortunately, poorly-written Flash is far more ubiquitous, and used it situations where it is unnecessary. I can understand my browser using a lot of CPU time if I'm using some Java applet, but if I'm reading /. I shouldn't have to deal with a slowdown.

    Web browsing is fine. But Flash uses orders of magnitude more CPU time than it ought to.

    You are thinking of the semantic web, which is XML based; however, XHTML is not inherently semantic, just easily-parsed.

    The 50's saw the end of the studio system. I'd argue that the games industry is still moving toward a model of "let's churn out as much as we can as fast as we can while we can still sell something," not away from it.

    Never mind that Halo PC started outselling Doom III at a time when Halo PC had been out for months, and Doom III for weeks. Halo PC was one of the crappiest ports ever, and it still did quite well.

    Yeah, it was really tough back in the 40's. I don't know how my grandparents survived using stone tools. But there are greater concerns than that. Have you ever seen the movie WarGames? Apparently we have to worry about computer hackers launching nuclear missiles too.
