I would say the ones creating their own OS are Microsoft. Windows is the different one. And it is a design choice. Prety much everything else si some form of unix derivative. That includes Apple OSX.

I own a Dell Inspiron 8200 and I think I will never ever by Dell again. Since I have it, a hard disk,a 512MB memory module, and a miniPCI wireless card have gotten fried. The AC adapter also got fried. Dell does not know how to build laptops. No comment about their buggy bios and their lack of support for non-windows plataforms. Let's see if they have the guts to ban this one...

That technique is not new. Faster sea transportation systems have already been researched. See WIGS for instance. Wings In Ground Effect: transportation by sea, as fast as a slow airplane but more efficient than an airplane. They were researched during the 60s, specially by the russians and the germans, for military purporses. It does not matter how much money M$ has given to charity. They have destroyed way lot more that what they have buildt. That cannot be said about open source. It talks about definitions of "Explode" and astronauts not knowing how to operate the shuttle ("was neither especially dangerous if operated properly"). The whole article is bullshit. Is MSNBC going to create their own program so they are saying it is safe just because?
I just wanted to point out that efficiency could be power over processing capabilities. "More efficient in terms of power consumption" and "comparable to X" means it consumes less power but it does not necesarily beat X .
Porting KDE to windows is just a way of open source software (OSS) to grow. Deciding if it should exist or not is users choice.
I think we are missing the whole point here. I think OSS should not be having a battle with anyone. OSS is just OSS, it may be better or worse than comertial software, but that is something that should be decided by users, not by developers. Because, after all, software, usually, is written for users.
