The US and the rest of the "free world" (such as it is) is bitching and moaning about APT10, a so-called hacking collective. Whilst the "free world" goes on hacking sprees against their own citizens (five-eyes, etc).

It's not about catching criminals (the ACLU is falling into the semantics trap). It's about "instant dossiers" on people who might upset "the system" - i.e., the incumbent powers that be. Everyone has skeletons, and without "second chances" (the US since its founding had been the land of second chances - ability to re-invent oneself, until recently, with this data collecting bullshit tied to Real ID), there is not a politician in the US that can effect change.

The future is a mishmash of Big Brother, Little Brothers (private companies collecting data to sell you things, for example) Brave New World, and GATTACA, in the worst possible way. Because every time I think something has gotten as worse as it can get, it gets worser by orders of magnitude, so my ruminations here and in my head can't possibly imagine the tyrannical dystopia coming down the road.

Actually, no. The Democratic Party has been running away from the failed campaign of McGovern learning all the wrong lessons and tying themselves to concepts like "electablity" and doing everything they can to not appear "too leftist" whatever that is at the time. They abandoned the unions, losing all those votes and set the stage or the deundustrialisation of America through lopsided trade agreements. Shit like this has let the Republicans drive every argument all the way down to the vocabulary used. So as the Republicans have drifted into insanity, Dems have become "Republican Lite"

Trump didn't spring fully formed from the head of Zeus.

They have been pulling this shit for 50 years. Why stop now?

    >trump's crimes

The American public doesn't give a shit. The American public, by and large, assumes all politicians are on the take..

The American public wants someone to at least pretend to care about their bread and butter issues. As stated above, the par\\Democratic Party has been running away from that sort of stuff since McGovern. Trump won the clown car because out of all the other candidates on the R side he at least mouthed the concepts even though he was lying.and when the DNC riggged it so that someone who had awful negatives, it was only inevitable that trump won the presidency.

Now w are stuck with him and fucking morons like you think that impeachment is going to fix things. It will ifx nothing and if successful, we will wind up with pence. While Trump is a little kid pretending to be dictator, pence will be the real deal and will use things embedded in the ndaa and such, that Obama and his predecessors signed off on, to silence critics.

Indeed, social media is sometimes the only connection left a depressed person has with the world at large (and if this is you, seek help *right now*^`1) that removing access to it (because parents are going to only read the title) would be harmful.

    1. That was me back in 2012. The only things I did were food shopping and going to the pharmacy. If that. But not enough. I lost a bunch of weight due to anorexia (anorexia is not just teenage kids with body image problems, it's also adults or anyone else that just doesn't feel the need to eat). While losing weight this way was effective, it's not recommended by me. My world shrunk to my apartment and the only connection with the outside world was my computer and my property manager who insisted that I come over and sit around the barbecue roughly every Saturday and he wouldn't take no for an answer. (he had a key, of course)

About that. I was pretty good at putting on the mask, so nobody would know that anything was wrong, just that I wasn't around much.

By the time December rolled around and my brother rescued me, I was an almost-suicidal mess and didn't care what happened to me because I didn't think anyone would miss me. Steve probably kept me alive long enough for that to happen. Without the two Steves (my brother is also named Steve), I'd probably be dead from the heart attack in Feb 2013.

Which leads me to today. I am still alive, and I have an actual life again. It took a lot of work and a lot of visits to the head shrinker, but I am mostly functional and /married/ to a wonderful person who doesn't think I'm as awful as I think I am.

The tl;dr of this footnote is that life changes and if your only connection to the outside world is social media, you are in a depressive episode and you need help immediately. You cannot drag yourself out of it alone. But if you get help, you will get the time for life to change for the better (because it can't get much worse). Help doesn't have to be professional help, but it can be a friend or your local DBSA. Google that organization and find a group close to you and go.

"We would have won if those meddling kids didn't expose our lies"

It's literally something out of Scooby Doo.

Trump and trumpism isn't the result of the goddamned Russians, it's the result of 40+ years of stultification of the American Public. Ever since the Southern Strategy. The Republicans have been courting the idiots ever since then, and don't fucking argue this point with me, because it was Nixon's own words as to what rubes he was going after.

And ever since then, they've become the Republican Base.

Gone are the Barry Goldwaters. The GOP (grand?) is now composed of grifters, wannabes, assholes, racists, and tools. Since this matches much of the American Public, it's no wonder that Trump won, because he is all of that, and more.

And what gets me is that the Democrats should be /hammering/ the Republicans on policy. Except that it's "Russia Russia Russia." Which the American Public doesn't give two shits about. So we have tools like Tom Perez in charge of the party, someone who would stab you in the back (politically) as much as look at you.

  23. regarding your last paragraph:

I don't want our sitting president, DJT, ousted.

He is unable to get anything done. Even Republicans within his own party balk at the idiocy that comes out of the WH as a "budget" And that's being nice.

His 4am shitter tweets are a sight to behold. I'm not talking about the new Scrabble 7 letter word - I'm talking about all the rest of them that any sensible PR person would be screaming at him about.

He is a disgusting human being who is only liked as he is because he can play the media like Perlman plays the fiddle and sometimes he's funny. But beyond that, his overall behavior that I have seen since the 80s has been atrocious.

    I could go on.

Yes, we could remove him. He's arrogant enough to leave a trail a mile wide, thinking nobody will walk down it.

Yes, we could remove him, but next in line are Pence and Granny Starver Ryan. And if you look at the list, it's assholes all the way down. But they're competent politicians. They know how to say the nice things while stabbing you in the back and you'll thank them for the stab. Trump is fucking incompetent, as we have seen over the past months (it feels like years). The only people left who truly support him are impervious to facts.

As a member of the opposition (I am no longer a dem, because they are Reaganism in Drag, with the drag getting a little threadbare, but as such they are slightly less evil), I want Trump to be stuck to the Republican Party and have them own him at least until the 2018 elections and hopefully to the 2020 elections (to be tossed on his ass by the R party or him rage-quitting)

Because he is so /useful/ to the opposition as an idiot. He brings the media. The media, being stenographers these days, sometimes shines light on the shenanigans unwittingly. More so now than in the past because Trump is entertainment and ratings. For example, we've had Darrel Issa trapped on a rooftop at his town-hall, and similar things have been happening to other congressdroids. People are pissed. I want them to remain pissed. Anger directed in a useful direction is good. They're now getting angry at the people who wish them harm. In order for this to keep going, Trump must remain in office to generally draw attention to government.

Russiagate is a distraction from the real issues - that both the Democratic and Republican parties are Neoliberal economically and considering the last administration, the Democrats are Neoconservatives on foreign policy (we're in how many wars now?) and Heaven Forfend that the public actually gets wind of this.
