It made some sense to compare civilian to government guns until like 1930. Governments have all those airplanes, hellicopters, NSAs, prisons, so best thing you can do with bare gun against government is to shoot yourself in the head.
In some bigger electronics shops, you can see 4K TVs, with some demo 4K recorded loop. I saw 65" and 55" Sony TVs. While smaller (55") is better, but not dramatically over FullHD, difference on 65" is really !!! BIG !!!. Check it yourself.
People also tried to make smartphones and tablets decades ago, but failed simply because hardware was not capable enough. Nowadays, HW is incredibly powerful, so we might try new things with it.
Or, that living things, including our brain, transform this (static) funcion to 3D space + time, where things are possible to _predict_, there is enough causality in direction of time arrow, and system is stable enough (conservation of energy works) for life to exist. Most other trasformations probably lead to functions where random things happen, with no causality, or system is unstable (stuff massively pops up everywhere and then evaporates), so it is impossible for (complex at least) life to exist.
Cell should be an object even today. Their problem is probably, that Cell object contains something like string object, so creating 1 million of cells meeds million pointers and allocations to million of strings, which is performance killer. What they need to do is: instead of string, put int handler of string into cell, and have all strings in single huge allocated blob (like: StringBlobMap object). Going away from objects to improve performance is rarely good idea.
I agree, except if it ends up using smaller bitrate and less computation for same quality video then HEVC, which is their goal. In that case, it would instantly change from boring to magic.
I see CSS as another attempt (previous one being VisualBasic) of non programmers, to sort of "program" something. CSS alongside 2 basic layers, regular code and HTML document itself, only creates additional unnecessary third layer of shit that eventually may introduce problems, as soon as someone starts playing with it
Just like Android, this OS will bring $100 Chinese laptops, that would be great for Linux users, and also provide great OLPC solution as a side effect. Only feature I need in future ChromeOS editions, is integrated VirtualBox, so that I can launch Ubuntu from within ChromeOS.
it will take a loooooong road of building for them to even come close to replacing other forms of electricity generation.
This article is about Germany where it is obvious, that road is not that long, as everyone (especially nuclear lobbyists) was saying. In 2011, 3% of German electricity was produced by solar, in 2012 it will be over 5%, which is amazing 2% per single year only on solar energy. Wind energy is about 7% and is also growing at least >= 1% per year. Add to this new (wind) mega-turbines (>= 10MW per one turbine), and you see that pretty soon Germany will turn on non-renewable sources only in still more rare situations.
Reason is: Microsoft Windows. Many applications, including Desktop itself, was not fully scalable for many years, and I am not sure even what is current status. Especially if we caunt all Total Commanders, WinRars etc. that must be installed from 3rd party, to get anything done.
Android are doing good. In strongest Apple market, US, Android tablets are half of all tablets sold. http://www.droid-life.com/2012/10/02/pew-research-android-up-to-48-of-u-s-tablet-sales-ipad-drops-to-low-of-52/
It is reasonable to expect dominance of Android tablets will only increase, especially outside US. People will soon expect to have great IPS tablet for $100, and there is little Apple (or Microsoft, or even Samsung) can offer there.
Except there is nothing in Samsung phone or tablet so blatantly stolen and copied, like Swiss Rail Clock on Apple. Using Samsung and Apple for 5 minutes easily convince any technically litterate person that you are using 2 completely different platforms with nothing in common.
Like most geeks, I couldn't care less about Apple and their single-button-mouse (obviously, it is not designed for me, but someone wants it), until they tried to prevent me from buying Android phones, that I REALLY want. Trying to prevent people from buying what they want, forcing them into "legal" products they don't want, is shortcut to become hated. It is how USSR ended - people wanted to own stuff they choose, but government told them it is illegal in USSR to own it (Honda car or Sony TV) because in USSR we have better products, and all legal !
Either real worker rights, or they need to find somewhere else their own "China", with 30+ billion population, that will provide slavery manufacturing services for 1+ billion of Chinese people.
Sometimes I look at comments everywhere and it seems as if people would be totally happy to see nothing but Google and Android everywhere.
If Apple and Microsoft PR departments only thought about all consequences of suing people around and behaving unethically in all cases where ethics remotely mattered... You cannot expect/. crowd to forget in weeks what is their default corporate behavior.
So as for Google maps, why hasn't Google released a stand alone app yet?
Perhaps because Apple is bullying Android producers, so Google decided that enough is enough. Apple is perhaps lucky that at least web search is still on. Maybe we will see improvement in iOS7, with iSearch that cannot find a damn thing.

What Obama propose, is like sending 5 soldiers to Omaha beach on D-Day. It just makes no sense at all.

So, it is enough to filter people buying sunglasses, without car and facebook account?
1 TB/s? That bus is insane, it could transfer my whole porn collection in less then 5 minutes!
There cannot be any proof, it is obviously impossible to distinguish between "simulated" and "real" reality
Product received great reviews from buyers, so no.

In other words "We are heading towards either hell, or communism", as philosopher Zizek said.

Landfills, or as they call them in Italy: Towns.

Owners of "Sore losers" patent pool.
It said "First Post!"
