What people do is reverse engineer the Quake executable, and use its authentication for keys to generate new keys. A very high percentage of these keys will be invalid, but they will be checked on masse to the Quake authentication servers until some pop up legit.
Sometimes these keys are already in use by paying customers, who lose their ability to play online.
I don't mean to disagree with you for the sake of being annoying, but FireFox lets you import all your internet explorer bookmarks, and has weather bars as well.
It's true that you will have to spend a few minutes after the installation of firefox to install flash and the weather bar, but I don't think the end user would really notice the difference afterwards. Even pointy haired bosses.
Lawyers: Sir, strictly speaking, a thousand million dollars will not go very far these days. Execs: Really? Okay then... we will sue for 1... thousand... BILLION dollars!
I think it may be the same guy who was trying to start a rumour that the average computer used the equivalent half a container ship of coal to run each day.
"Because OpenOffice Writer is an abomination of an awkward and slow as molasses would-be clone of that MS Word which I don't like. (Yes, I guess this will modded flamebait, but I really hated OpenOffice every time I thought I would give it another chance)"
I agree with that. Writer never seems to do what I tell it to do (or want it to do). Page designs frequently mess up and it's just not intuitive for me, however much I want to like it. I use AbiWord instead. Or notepad.
Also, it doesn't have to be just one group in control, it could be several groups with different interests.
I do believe there is a difference in American groups that always try to push their agenda no matter what, and, for instance, European groups. I don't believe putting a religious group in charge would automatically mean they will abuse that power and start banning and censoring. Even though it would probably be illegal for them to do so, and they would be stopped if they did.
I couldn't agree less. Drug addicts take drugs because they're addicted to it: They've built up a physical or mental dependence on the drug that they can't get out of. Anyone can be addicted to drugs, whether they can handle being sober or not.
Interestingly, if morphine is administered against pain or as treatment, the addiction rate is very, very low as opposed to taking morphine when you don't need it.
Television is a public forum. Yet you can't use what you see or record for your own benefits.
If it were true by default that what you posted, everyone could use, Microsoft wouldn't have had to include that paragraph. But it's not true, copyright laws apply even if you post in public.
Also, Microsoft doesn't just claim to be allowed to use it, they say they'll be allowed to sell it as their own without paying you. Which is just wrong.
"No they didn't, and that's the point. MySpace was already cool, they bought it and didn't really change it. They didn't MAKE it cool."
The topic is "Can Large Corporations BUY Cool", so I think it really is the point.

What are these haikus?
I keep hearing about them;
Tell me how they work!
If I were some unknown artist, would I not be entitled to some of the levy? Or is it just for the major record labels, not the indie artists?
If you were female, that'd be +1 blond

You don't have to be computer savvy to use FireFox?
My mother and aunt love it, and they're about as unsavvy as they get. They even do their banking online with it now.
They say that's what killed Philip's superior video cassettes - that they didn't allow porn on it.
I think it was only for businesses, and then only for the first 300 who applied.
I'd just like to say the real threat isn't users who don't know anything; it's users who *think* they know but really don't.
Tech support doesn't mind dealing with people who don't know, but dealing with people who think they know is a real nightmare.

"about Microsoft, but this is one thing they have *always* gotten."
That's categorically false. In recent years their tools have improved a lot, but before that they were a right nightmare.
Isn't this something that a globally enforced .XXX domain name for erotica and .MAT for mature would fix?
Who says they would have to have full control?

I'd hate to think how religious people have raped your family and killed your parents, but I think you're being just slightly paranoid.
"The only organizations I can think of like that are tied to various religious groups. So I sure hope we dont hand controll over to them."
Yeah, because God knows what they will do to inflict horror and suffering onto the world with managing domain names.
"the GOP makes Britain's Tory party look like Tellytubbies."
I trust you don't mean.. the purple one
Lawyers work for money, not companies.
You mean, "reformatting camps".

Something doesn't have to be interactive to be a forum. Not all tv is a forum, but some tv is.
Do check the dictionary, it even mentions tv.
