To be honest, Your debunks 1 & 2 don't hold any merit for me.
Just because others do it didn't get me any slack in kindergarten, I don't see why it should for companies.
3 & 4 sound horrible, but not particularly illegal. They would convince me not to play the game, even though I pretty much always pay on time.
5 is outrageous I think.
6. Sounds reasonable
7. I don't know what the the restrictions and conditions are. That it's their game, doesn't mean they can legally put in any condition or restriction they would like.
8. Is more interesting in my opinion, because I don't believe the character should (legally) be or remain property of the MMOG.
Somebody mentions a million person march on/., and someone else organizes it for tomorrow. . You German folk sure are as efficient as people say you are!
Before Iran had an Islamic theocracy, Iran had a brutal (but pro-US) right-wing dictator, Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Iran had 2,500 years of monarchy before the Islamic revolution in 1979. Iran has never had anything like a democracy.
Similar to how they stopped the revolution in Cuba, and installed a new dictatorship, because United Fruits would have had a major loss in profits. These kind of things make me angry and disgusted, despite me not being any better.
I must say that the sheer amount of American "special days" is ridiculous, and takes away any meaning they could ever have. A quick google on October:
# Adopt-a-Shelter-Animal Month # Computer Learning Month # Family History Month # National Apple Month # National Clock Month # National Dessert Month # National Pizza Month # National Popcorn Popping Month (wtf!) # National Roller Skating Month # Polish American History Month (they need a whole month?) # National Stamp Collecting Month (oh yeah)
The first week in October is Fire Prevention Week (don't bother with it any other week of the year), the second week is Teen Read Week.
Special Days:
01/10 * Homemade Cookies Day 01/10 * World Vegetarian Day 02/10 * Name Your Car Day (no way) 03/10 * Captain Kangaroo Day 04/10 * National Golf Day 04/10 * World Card Making Day (why define things as Global or World when it's only in America?) 05/10 * World Teacher Day 06/10 * Child Health Day 09/10 * Leif Ericson Day 09/10 * Moldy Cheese Day (this one I like) 12/10 * Farmer's Day 13/10 * Columbus Day 14/10 * Indigenous People's Day 15/10 * National Grouch Day 15/10 * National Poetry Day 16/10 * Boss's Day 16/10 * Dictionary Day 16/10 * World Food Day 17/10 * Black Poetry Day 18/10 * Alaska Day 18/10 * Sweetest Day 20/10 * Monster Mash Day 21/10 * ANTI PIRACY DAY WOO 22/10 * National Nut Day (AKA President Bush Day) 24/10 * National Bologna Day 24/10 * United Nations Day 25/10 * National Denim Day 26/10 * Mother-in-Law's Day 28/10 * Plush Animal Lover's Day
Is anyone seriously gonna wake up and think "OH! IT'S MOLDY CHEESE DAY!" or prepare weeks in advance for national denim day? Why do they exist? Is it mostly companies that make these up in the hope of upping their revenues?:(
If it's a 1.5 hour film, that's 270 segments of 20 seconds each.
They'd have to buy 270 tickets and watch the film 270 times in the same seat of the same screen at the same cinema in order to keep the lighting right, assuming one cinema will show the same film 270 times.
I'm thinking it's not a very viable solution to pirate films.
I have no idea where you buy your flash cards, but you're getting ripped off. You can buy them for under $10 on ebay, and they're still dropping in price.
There's also a very big difference between choosing to have anything implanted, or being forced to have anything implanted.
That she wants to dedemonize RFID chips is fine with me, but at the moment she seems to support forced implantations of the chips. It's really only one step away from no longer being able to buy food without an implanted chip under your hand or forehead.
I always figured that a patent war would be the last resort in battle, similar to SCO's intellectual property claims. I find it very telling that Microsoft said they were more interested in receiving license fees than suing.
Once Linux passes this futile attempt, by dismissing bad patents and bypassing valid ones, there will be nothing left for Microsoft to attack Linux with. I'm looking forward to it.
Google is a company; they push services, not ideologies. To say the US is as evil as Google (if Google were evil) for dealing with China at all, is suggesting that US companies are morally superior to Chinese companies, a presumptuous statement that would be hard to prove.
Please do not condescend me by saying you feel sad for me for stating my beliefs; it is childish and pretentious, and serves no other purpose than to be spiteful.
If Google had not caved in and insisted China change its ways, I would have considered it more evil. They just obeyed the local law; if you want to blame anyone, blame China.
I have no idea who ran over your dog, but I'm pretty sure the topic is whether or not companies can buy cool vs buying people to create cool or making it from scratch.
It is interesting how you know the topic writer's meaning when he writes something completely different.

Surely they are only doing this so they can make more money? Cybersquatters must be a huge source of revenue for them.
ICANN needs to be replaced with something more non-for-profit and preferably international, because they're just taking the piss.
Only half?
Somebody mentions a million person march on /., and someone else organizes it for tomorrow.

"Sun supercomputer kitted out with 12,000 cores." " They collect 700 GB of data every night, which they then crunch down using some perl scripts "
Doesn't that mean it could be run from a home computer running c code instead?

You had a valid point, but to add that last statement I thought was unnecessary and just hate mongering.

What annoys me more is that they're claiming this as a victory due to their super-duper copy protection in Vista.

Release it as you see fit. People will whine even if you perfect it, so just do it your way.
Surely pitting any AI against the exact same AI will yield random results?
I don't see your point.

I believe that is a Very Good Thing (tm), as a Christian and a human being. Finally a decent bill.
XP was extensively advertised as the most secure, reliable and stable windows OS so far. It even says so when you install it.
"Why should CCP, as a company, push a certain player group?"
Because that player group also contains most of the CCP staff.
Do invite me for the beta
I don't think you actually read the article you replied to.
He was clearly talking about a license to use the XBOX 360 hardware, not Live.

"Xbox 360, PC, MEdia Center"
Those are all MS products. I'm thinking someone at the BBC is getting some sweet lovin' from Microsoft.
