    In EU, generally speaking, the rights of the many outweigh the rights of the few, or in this case, one.
    In the US, as Dick Cheney said, people get to vote every 4 years.
    As Obama has rightly started out, The government should judge itself on same laws as it judges its citizens.
    For instance, a Governer last year crashed his SUV while not wearing a seat belt. Did he get Jail like black man would get? NO! He got a citation.
    To make the cops fear law, you need to judge and convict cops: for violations as small as parking tickets while off-duty.

    My mother has lived with Cirrhosis of liver for past decade(caused by a bad doctor prescribing painkillers for 6 months instead of proper diagnosis).
    This artificial liver could help her IF her body could accept it.
    Problem is FDA has a knack of approving stuff before it is really ready for real world. FDA is owned by pharma companies.

    The problem with larger corporates is that they treat every broadband user as a criminal.
    Every single one.
    Smaller game companies or indie producers do not do the same.
    Take Democracy 2 for instance.
    I paid for the PC version BECAUSE:
    1) It was not DRM'ed.
    2) I got the Mac version too!
    If i buy AoM from MSFT, i need to pay twice: Mac & Windows.
    Why can't RIAA/MPAA/BSA make a deal something like this:
    I buy a license to see/play/listen directly from their websites or partners.
    I can then download it from official/unofficial torrents, RS or ML or damn anywhere else.
    In any format i choose, and play it anywhere i like!
    Why do they restrict us to a media and then DRM it BUT license it and not sell it?
    All they need is money. They care shit about media.
    If i buy a license, their distribution costs can be halved/zeroed.
    Iam free to download it from anywhere else.

    Amazon has a great reputation as a hard goods shipper. Excellent site, and great shipping. BUT it sucks in areas where Apple is King.
    Video downloads was a disastrous service by Amazon.
    First of all they have this crazy DRM fear so much that they rape your PC installing their downloader.
    Second, they limit you to US by IP address...
    I mean they ship their DVDs worldwide, but can't let me download a video outside of US???
    Stardock got it right with their downloadable games option. Download from anywhere, even outside of US, and play anywhere without screwing up your PC.
    Of course some of their games are lame, but i expect to see more 3rd parties coming in their way.
    As a frequent traveller out of US, i strictly limit myself to Amazon for buying ONLY DVDs and Books. Rest all, i get locally.
    Games? I would rather buy a DVD at a local store or download from Stardock or buy from independent producers (Democracy 2 anyone) instead of going to Amazon.

    I didn't mean to insult you, and am sorry if i did that.
    Korea is a very closed country, network-wise.
    Unlike Germany or France or even fascist-UK, Korea's connection to internet is limited and practically non-existent.
    Hence, calling their LAN a global internet (on the scales of Germany or USA or fascist-UK) is a misnomer. They don't have & they don;t want that bandwidth.
    Internet is after all a network of networks meeting at various points and locations speaking one language. Various points do not exist for Korea, and locations outside their Capital do not exist for direct connectivity to outside world.

    Korea is a HUGE LAN powered by TCP/IP.
    Their connectivity to non-korean networks (essentially the world) is limited.

    South Korea is a much more active democracy where former presidents/prime ministers have been indicted, convicted and sentenced to jail for corruption and other illegal activities.
    USA pardons presidents, congressmen and other officials for breaking the law.
    So i don't think the korean tax payer would see his money go waste.
    120,000 jobs are filled in by locals, not by H1-Bs as is the case with Citi and other banks which got the $350 Billion bailouts.

    How many jobs would the telecoms have created if they'd invested their portion of this project's cost into other areas instead?

    How many jobs would comcast and verizon have created if they had actually invested federal subsidies into their infrastructure instead of throttling connections.
    In Korea and Japan we have companies making a real effort to INCREASE their performance and output as a way to increase profits.
    In US we have companies which throttle our connections and raise fees to increase profits without investing in infrastructure.

    Cayman islands and bahamas as condos, NYC posh apartments, WAGs, engagement rings worth millions, Timeshares in Hawaii... etc
    This lobbying happens because our democracy is in 18th century while we live in 21st century.
    I mean, think: why did we have representatives elected? To be OUR voice in Congress because not all of us could afford to go and vote on each bill. Travel in 18th century was not as easy as today (with exception of TSA-screwed-up air travel).
    Now, we can all participate directly in such decisions via TV, Internet, Mobile, Telephones, fax, etc.
    So why do we still elect congresscritters do take decisions that favor large corporates.
    Bring democracy directly to people via direct voting like California and Swiss, and see corporates flounder.

    You forgot to add other tricks up the sleeves of comcast:
    1) $1000/- excluding FUS, State & federal taxes per month. Including them, the first month's bill will come to $2104/- because:
    a) Installation charges=$350
    b) Modem charges=$200
    c) Visit fee (because they screwed up first place)=$150
    d) Connection fee=$250
    Rest in FUS and taxes
    2) You are limited to HTTP, HTTPS and FTP procotols only. All other protocols cost $210 each per month. BitTorrent costs $350 per month on each torrent to "reimburse" RIAA/MPAA.
    3) Total traffic usage is limited to 100GB per month. Beyond that, the connection will be cut off. Of course, no roll overs.
    4) High-usage connections will be monitored every 15 mins and constant maxing out bandwidth will result in connection throttling to 2Mbps or less unless the user reduces usage, at which point it would be restored to original speed pending further investigation (in other words, next billing cycle).
    5) Non-usage will result in additional connection charges of $15 a month
    6) No static IP. Static IP will cost $131 extra per month
    7) Not to be used for commercial purposes.
    That's all i can think of now...
    God, i hate our ISPs. Especially Comcast.

    Not that simple as you portray.
    Citizens are looking for work everywhere.
    Whether its KFC or Citi.
    But the cost of hiring H1-Bs is lower in many ways than just financial:
    1) A H1-B could be fired instantly without any union problems.
    2) No healthcare or pension crap.
    3) Ability to hite 2 H1-B for price of one american citizen (ok, nowadays this is gone)
    In short, this is just stealing.
    Corporates steal tax payers money and feed it to h1Bs, while the same tax payer is fired!
    As long as a corporate is NOT funded by tax payer money it is free to hire anyone.
    The moment a corporate touches public money, it has to follow rules that limit hiring.
    In India Public funded organisations (even profitable ones) have to follow rules on hiring including reservations for the backward and under-privileged.
    Similar should be in US...

    The problem is Democracy as it exists today.
    It is flawed.
    The reason we used to elect representatives to represent citizens is because none of the citizens had the ability to jointly partitipate directly in a democracy: communication, travel (stagecoaches), nor the time (church for a whole day???).
    However, today we could directly vote, particppate and even travel to a large House.
    Why do we need someone else to "represent" our interests?
    Why can't we have a direct democracy like Swiss?
    All this Nokia like crap would go away.
    Always remove the middle-men.
    Whether in Church, or in Congress, always eliminate the middle-men.
    Democracy is outdated.
    Upgrade it to modern version.
    Am sure our politicians would not accept this...

    On one hand, Indian IT companies rock the world. There are very few Russian IT companies beyond Russia.
    Second Russians make kaspersky. Indians make Quick Heal.
    QuickHeal beats Kaspersky in many areas...
    Both have built super computers...
    Skill-wise in sheer ingenuity, Russians win.
    Skill-wise in knowing packaged software and developing corporate applications, Indians win.

    AF1 is as american as the t-shirt which is made in mexico and finished in USA to get the Made in U.S.A label.

    3) The senate committee adds more pork by adding a military base and hands it for signature
    4) The military invites closed bids for the same and awards it to the HIGHEST bidder.
    5) The contractor burns through the money in 3 weeks and comes back to military with a 2-feet model.
    6) Military approves it and goes back to congress for more money stating security.
    7) Congress grants it and adds more pork to it.
    8) The military deducts 10% from the amount and gives remaining to contractor.
    9) Years pass and a new president comes in.
    10) The new president is delivered a plane that has half the functionality at thrice the cost
    11) President enthusiastically declares the project was completed in 4 months (his time as prez).
    12) Contractor given more projects!

    A company doesn't accept an email as a legal notice or a legal claim or even a contract for the same cell phone.
    If you can't send an email to activate a damn cellphone contract, then why should you accept an emailed bill?
    Apply the same lesson a corporate applies to you:
    If they ask you if you will accept an emailed bill, ask them if they will accept an emailed contract for cellphone? Obviously they will not.
    Put it in writing to them that if they switch to email without your permission, you consider the bill no longer a legal representation to pay and as such you are under no legal obligation to pay.
     

  25. Simple solution to force-change the law on NZ File-Sharers, Remixers Guilty Upon Accusation · · Score: 1

    1) An individual developer puts up an interesting and very-useful piece of JavaScript/Java/RPG code that specifically appeals to the RIAA/MPAA website designer. He puts up a small 3-point font legal notice stating that the code is free as in beer BUT the user MUST put up the original writer's(the author) notice and acknowledge the copyright remains with author.
    2) Advertise this code heavily. Wait until RIAA/MPAA web designer contractor downloads, rips off the copyright and passes it on as RIAA code.
    3) Establish repeated infringment of the code with proofs. (The law requires repeated infringment).
    4) Send an email to RIAA in Latin or Esperanto or Ancient Italian (UN Languages) seeking cease-and-desist notice. Send an English copy of the same notice to local Justice of Peace (Talk to her beforehand).
    5) RIAA will definitely not reply (hey who understands Latin or Ancient Italian?)
    6) Wait until time expires, get the justice to sign an order establishing RIAA as "guilty".
    7) Send the notice to ISP and ask them to disconnect and NOT reconnect RIAA.
    8) Send copy of notice to all ISP so that RIAA cannot connect to internet now or in future.
    9) Watch as RIAA hurriedly buys up a few parlimentarians/congressmen and changes the law.
