This latest move by ex-Goldman Sachs partner to shovel out $700 billion smacks of a well engineered financial terrorist attack organised by the government. Couple this with today's FOX news headlines: Iran's gone nuclear! Corporates know this administration is the closest they can get to a gravy train. They very well know the next admin is going to break their backs. So after robbing us blind by Iraq wars (halliburton, KBR), Katrina rebuilding(again same clients), FedCopters (Bernanke showering money earlier this year to investment banks), they are trying the Greatest Robbery Ever!; Stealing the entire Tax revenue as "compensation" for screwing up citizens. So lulling the people into a false sense of security (Economy is strong as told by Bush, Cheney, Paulson), they suddenly spring a surprise yelling the economy is going to fail and demanding $700 B as payment. Much like a mugger sweet-talking you to disarm you and suddenly pulling the gun on you. The same fear tactics are applied here: Pass a bill or else the security/finance of america is gone tomorrow. This is typical of the Karl Rove kind of threats: Put a sudden deadline, put a fear, and threaten: Much like Hitler used to do. If congress and the dems had any back bone and especially if Obama has any backbone (which he doesn't after FISA), he should stop this fear-mongering in its tracks and start : 1. Ads in TV showing the negative aspects of bailout: Rich CEOs getting millions and enjoying yachts with blondes after the getting the Federal bailout. 2. Speeches in small towns stating the government wants to foreclose your home and wants the money to pay to rich men in New York. 3. Ads in radio and talk shows in radio patterned on O'Reilly tactics that force the listener to vote on whether the bailout would benefit the richest or the CEO of failed companies. 4. Ads in newspapers exaggerating that this administration wants to take their medicare money and feed it to greedy corporates. Appeal to the emotions of people, not facts. 5. Subpoena every one involved, including Paulson and Bernanke and force them testify under oath the benefits they aim to receive after they leave their jobs and the benefits of CEO and CFO of these companies. 6. Arrest anyone who refuses to obey the Subpoena...starting with Todd Palin. Once rhe republicans come to the table instead of crowing for money, put some teeth into the bill: 1. All companies which receive federal bailout will get back all the money they paid to their entire board in past 2 years. Minimum wage will be paid to the board, but all money beyond that is snatched back. 2. All companies sign over 80% of their equity to the Federal Government. 3. Barring any Federal Official in Treasury or Federal Reserve from accepting any job at any assisted institution for next decade. 4. Enabling courts to renegotiate unilaterally terms of a mortgage with any federal-assisted bank.
Unfortunately knowing Obama, Pelosi and Democrats well, they will hand over the check without any oversight and flay their helplessness to the american public as if they are innocent. If that happens, Obama can kiss his election success goodbye and democrats can forget even their existing seats in congress. They will be reduced to just two seats: Senator Kennedy and Biden. I seriously hope this happens. That the dems hand over a black check and in november the public hands them back their as$es-deep fried.
No. This is pure profit motive, that's all. Apple is hyper-monopolistic and hyper-aggressive when it comes to their OS. No one has built an effective Mail client for Mac OS X. No one has built a good replacement for ANY of the Mac OS X's system tools, BECAUSE Apple closes their system effectively. On one hand they cry out loud no one builds apps for their OS, but OTOH they scuttle anything which remotely threatens them. Unlike Microsoft. True Microsoft is the T-Rex, but they don't compete in markets like system tools, mail clients, etc., and other apps like Bloomberg, financial apps, even browsers, where they have a good market share and poor market share too. Microsoft actually is more accomodating than Apple in this case. Its time to start going the Android way.
Make your own site copyrighted. That way if nielsen sends you a DMCA takedown notice, send them back a copyright violation notice stating they didn't get your written permission to copy stuff from your website to send you the DMCA takedown. This is how companiy lawyers think. Use their own notice to your advantage and claim in courts you were wronged. Plus sue them in small-claims court. Tell the court nieslen copied stuff from your site and show the judge "crucial" parts of their letter (silently ignoring the fact its a DMCA notice) and establish a precedent. Nielsen can't come down to small claims without a lawyer: so that can't come at all. Once you set a precedent, move to County or sympathetic state courts where your precedent plays a more crucial role than their lawyers. That way you can defeat them easily, plus earn serious money.
Any fool can seize anything with a court order. Am talking about laws that allow citizens the right to directly seize state property based on accusations, just like the state can seize your property because of same law. Courts are last resort. In india the local blood sucking IRS levies interest @ 15% p,.a for taxes due beyond the date, plus a fine of about $150-$5,000 plus criminal charges if delayed beyond 3 months. However the same las allow the government to refund excess taxes within 12 months at zero interest and at 3% interest beyond that period with no ability to enforce it. Can i walk into the IRS office, seize their computers, auction them on spot, throw out their officers from their homes, raid them in mid-night, and seize all their money??? After all the government claims to represent me! Why can't i use force unilaterally to recover my money back? Please don;t give arguments like anarchy will result, etc. The government causes the greatest anarchy.
Which Grass are you referring to? Plus, i thought dogs and cattle did not have blood groups like humans and chimps. They have blood family groups, but no A1B positive kinda stuff. They have A,B,C i guess although this is irrelevant for DNA testing. Israelites have too much time on their hands i guess. As if they have solved the problem of jerusalem, golan heights, baby kidnappings, settlements, right-wing nut jobs, left-wing crackpots, middle-wing sufferers, etc. Seriously, Israel should spend this money on something useful instead of tracking down dog owners...what if the doog poop was deliberately for alibi purposes because the dog owner did an OJ Simpson kinda killing? Stupid guys.
When it comes to defending itself, a Government can be truly frightful. They can take away your property (rezoning), your wife(abuse charges), your kids(child abuse charges) and almost anything they can think of. You can do nothing to protect yourself except in courts: Try defending yourself with a handgun when a SWAT team raid (illegally), and you would be lucky to escape alive, let alone unharmed. Try protesting your innocence in a police station when you are roughly handcuffed and tossed into a cell containing hardened criminals. And when finally courts rule against the government, the government goes scot-free by throwing your tax money back at you in compensation and escaping any other liability. If you owe taxes to IRS, they can seize your home, imprison you and incarcerate you forever. But if the government owes back taxes to you or any other money, you cannot walk in seize their property: its a sure way to get shot. Which is why laws must be tit-for-tat. All laws must be reciprocal. If the law allows the State to raid your home with just a no-show warrant, you should be able to do the same against them with same warrant and walk in with a few gun-slingers. If the law allows state to seize your property for taxes with just a notice, you should be able to walk in and seize their property when they refuse to pay you. Simple. Roman laws were like that. Its a pity it was not followed.
You have never been to india. Stringent laws that prevent a cop from sampling anything without a warrant. Just a few months ago a huge telco spying scandal resulted in ouster of a few ministers and a few top cops. The Telco blew the whistle that it was approached by these jokers to spy on a few political opponents, without warrants. The press had a field day tearing into cops. TV hosts were joking that cops were trying to overhear talks between you and your GF. Plus the Left parties threatened to bring the government down and impeach a few, The Indian PATRIOT Act equivalent was repealed because of human rights violations. Only that act allowed warrantless spying. With that gone, the cops have to get a court order for spying on anything. And courts here are known for their deliberate refusals. For fun. I don't know whether to be happy or sad.
Not him. Iam talking about another story in slashdot a few days earlier where a Telco was suing a city for providing internet access to its citizens because the Telco backed out. http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=962747&cid=24988895/ The city has since stopped its plans. How come when City Hall meets a bigger bully than itself, it backs down cowardly, but when it meets a small fry it gangs up on him.
A city sues a single person to prevent him/her from linking to a public website, but keeps silent when a Telco sues it for providing free internet... Guess cities are bullies like corporates. Pick on the small guy. I dearly, dearly hope the defendant not only prevails, but also countersues the City Mayor for Fraud, deliberate attempt to subvert justice, manslaughter (what the heck, file anyway), and personally report him to the FBI for corruption. Counter Attack is the best form of defence.
If the light were invented today, it would be met with a dozen lawsuits from Gas Lamps Manufacturers Union, Candle Manufacturers Union, and Wicker makers union, while a dozen more lobbyists will descend on Capitol Hill and white house with protests. Our Homeland Defense secretary would go public announcing the administration unstinting support for the Gas and Candle makers while announcing that USPOT not grant the light bulb a patent on grounds of national security. "The heat generated from an incandescent bulb could be used to power a dirty weapon", so would run the argument. Plus Bush would go on National TV announcing a Federal Grant of $50 billion to support Gas and Candle makers for innovation and research purposes. Experts on TV and Radio would discuss the damaging effects of bulbs on eyes of the children.... You get the idea... Patents are public domain, but their review process which grants them is not. While patent applications are available for Public to go through to protest against it, the USPTO officers alone are allowed to grant it. "wikki"ing the whole thing will allow other companies to "steal" a corporate's secrets: So would run a lawyers' argument. The real reason is wiki'ing will stop frivolous patents, which is exactly what corporates fear will happen. Patents for right-click, up-click, down-click and ass-click will be prevented by wiki'ing the whole damn thing. While this is good for public and other companies, vested interests will not allow it. End result: USPTO will drop this option once it gets hit with a high-powered lawsuit led by lawyers who are paid $1,500 per hour. Instead of fighting, the USPTO will rollover: or it will be made to by Bush before he leaves.
Simple answer: The USPTO is begging for a lawsuit from large corporates. Crowdsourcing has the potential to leak a company's "confidential" secrets, and hence a corporate will sue the government to overturn such a decision. Obviously the USPTO has better ways to spend its limited grant, so they will default or withdraw this decision. All good intentions can be undone with a lawsuit.
An IT Manager can be completely technically incompentent,
Far too often, this happens. Which explains why the Manager will agree with a customer about a J2EE Trading Application conversion to SOA to be finished within 4 weeks... and then turn around to the team and accuse them of not doing a timely job in such migration. Software Development is not a science. Its art. Coding is an art. Coding practices can be called science, but coding, testing and releasing is an art. Imagine if Rembrandt had a manager who had agreed to the sponsor that Rembrandt would complete the painting within 24 hours: "Its just a 8x11 sheet and a few colors at most. Can be done easily. I have given Rembdrandt the best colors money can buy.". Any manager needs to be somewhat knowledgeable in his team's work: Any monkey can approve timesheets, it takes a real man to understand why developers put in 9 hours daily! I have had my fair share of good and bad managers in my 13 yrs career. My best managers were those who were marginally technically competent, but who showed a great interest in learning from me, even though they had twice as much experience as me. The bad ones were the ones who were criminally incompetent kinda "Heckuva Job Brown" type and a few ones who were casually cruel even though they were knowledgeable.
If Microsoft says they destroy any IP addresses and details when they receive it, will they sign a contract with all users confirming that? Will they repeat it under oath on penalty of perjury? I will believe a corporate only when it is under oath. Sorry.
Manage is to excercise executive, administrative and supervisory direction: Yup. But not leadership. Leadership is different. Its involved motivating people to achieve a common goal which is beneficial to them too. Managing is all about administrivia and supervisory stuff (approving leaves, etc). A manager excercising leadership is rare, but a leader excercising managerial authority is common. A leader can also be a manager, but a manager can never be a leader.
And that is why ditched Crysis and got a refund for my DVD. I had to fresh install XP, but it was worth it. Companies will not want to ditch DRM. If they do, they open themselves to a lawsuit by shareholders. If they don't people would not buy their games. What shd they do?
Ahh no. This is slashdot. We live in an alternate reality here. Apple can never do any wrong, Google is always Right[even when its wrong], and Microsoft is Satan[always]. Unless slashdot is invaded by a million Microsoft fans you can't hope for equal treatment. BTW, welcome to slashdot. Where reality meets alternate reality.
True. Very true. But imagine if a non-corporate partnership were to file a suit similar to this: The city hall would definitely consider acting against the people directly. Withdrawing licenses is a nuke attack and has the potential to destroy the good guys too. But it is a far better choice because that way, because it tells companies that they can't have it their way every time. The Telco will definitely not destroy its properties: its a loss for them. Their resources would be diverted to attacking the license in court. At best delicensing is a diversion, at worse a nuke attack. Either way is prefarble to going around a corporate because it tells a corporate we fear it. Psychologically a corporation is a bully and a pathological liar who would not hesitate to rob kids and defenceless people. Going around a bully only makes it attack you harder next time. Push back with all the weapons you got, and the bully will try to defend and run away.
That explains why ONE company out of a million is successful. One Good manager doesn't make an industry. The singular goal of a manager is: Deliver a well-knit team to the Leader or his successor. The rest are ancillary. Most managers confuse themselves with leaders. So wrong: A manager is responsible for managing the resources of a team so that the leader can lead the team to success. In short a manager is invisible, inert and totally emotionless. He doesn't need to motivate the team: that's the responsibility of a Leader. A manager approves timesheets, leaves, human resource issues like late pay, etc. A leader gets the job done. Genghis Khan would never have left Mongolia if he had to sit down every day for Scrum with his men approving leaves, timesheets, horse allocation, etc., That is why the support corps exist. The manager protects the team from external interference, making sure they are happy so that the leader can lead them to success. Which explains why Wehrmacht had the best support corps (far better than the stupid British or even Patton's Americans) even in its dying days. The manager is unsung, unhonored and unwept for: but that the greatest gift a manager can get is that his team desn't even notice him. A manager is like the OS: invisible, gets-out-of-way, type who is absent when you are playing the Great game, but steps in strongly when you are in trouble.
My Domain for my money transactions is limited to accounts i own and operate plus a few trusted family accounts. The money is free of DRM to move between these accounts. Beyond this personal domain, my money is tied up by my DRM and cannot move to Sony, or other RIAA labels without violating federal statues. Sorry.
True. Cities don't charter them. But a city gives permit to a corp to set up shop within its premises. Why do they need so many licenses to set up an office/place of work? Withdraw a couple of licenses a day, until such time the corp falls in line. Meanwhile the mayor (not the Palin kind) can send a petition to the state senate to withdraw the charter.
Exactly! Thanks. Well Said. That is why i purchased Sins of Solar Empire. And that is why i purchased Crysis, uninstalled it and returned it to store once i read about the SecurROM. (stores here by law have to accept opened Computer CDs if the buyer says it doesn't work on his Comp. EULA is not applicable here: its governed by Contract Act and Sale of Goods Act which allows a buyer to sample the goods before paying for the same.)
For the simple reason that a corporation is a fictional person and not a natural person. As has been established by courts numerous times, a corporation is chartered by the government to do business subject to laws and its articles. The government is free to withdraw that charter any time. That is why when you incorporate a company, you need a license to start business. Canceling that "license" is equal to a deatch sentence. The corporation is now a zombie. It can neither entertain business nor it can transact with anybody. The only recourse would be to wind up. Every Town and City Hall grants a license to a corporation to do business within the geographical limits of that area. Withdraw that license, and the corp has to leave that area: period. if it does not, the sheriff can be ordered by the city hall to seize, demolish and auction all assets of said body. Consult some law books.
One simple way City Hall can fight back is to simply pass a resolution/law delicensing the corporate charter for operation within the city/Town. Simple, effective and clean: Like an Airburst Nuke. It is a nuke, because the corporation has no recourse legally to this, it is simple, because it does away with the problem of fighting the lawsuit: After all if the party does not exist legally, then there is no lawsuit. I wonder if the people will be aware of this right: If so, their local elected officials and mayor should push for this resolution and de-charter the corporation on trumped up charged. Plus, get the sheriff to auction the properties of the corporation after giving it "2" hours notice to vacate its premises. The corporation would beg. People don't know their powers against large corporations: Withdrawing a charter is a death sentence. But that requires guts and courage, which none of our cowardly town halls and mayors do not have.
No, you dumbass. The law is for morons like you and me. Orrin hatch is protected by first and second amendments. Seizing his computer is like arresting Cheney when he ventures out of his safe house. Next to impossible. The best recourse to defeat this law is to set a precedent somewhere in a small federal court claiming Computers and WiFi routers are private property. The fun starts then.
Nope. For sheer storage size, nothing can beat HDs. Plus, SSD have still a lot to make up for in capacity and speed, random or otherwise. My USB flash drive cannot accept a 4GB file in under 20 seconds yet. My WD Firewire drive HD does. Figure it out.

So wrong:
A manager is responsible for managing the resources of a team so that the leader can lead the team to success. In short a manager is invisible, inert and totally emotionless. He doesn't need to motivate the team: that's the responsibility of a Leader.
A manager approves timesheets, leaves, human resource issues like late pay, etc. A leader gets the job done.
Genghis Khan would never have left Mongolia if he had to sit down every day for Scrum with his men approving leaves, timesheets, horse allocation, etc.,
That is why the support corps exist.
