    Many years ago, My dad worked for a company that had a customer that was about 95% of their business. They dropped that customer, because they were not making enough money on it.

    Took them a few years to crawl back, but they managed and became a leader in their range, making a LOT more money. Afterwards it was the best decision they made, but it was by no means an easy one. Could have gone wrong and they would have been closed.

    The lesson here: diversify.

    Most interest will start by 'spending time with daddy or mommy', regardless what that is. And even that will not be a given they are later interested in the subject.

    At the age of 16, I discovered computers and also started to spend less time with daddy and mommy. They have absolutely no idea how computers work. They do not even OWN a computer, yet I have an interest in them.

    I know ,any have have followed their parents and even more who did not.

    Although it is nice for Melinda and Bill that their kids show the same interest, I hope the kids will find their own path, regardless if that is science or becoming a journalist or whatever.

    To me this story is an example of 1 and means nothing.

  3. We have to see what the outcome is to see if he is missing the point. I would not be surprised if they agree with him.

    They are just saying: We do things regardless if tjhey are illegal or not, who fucking cares? Apparently not enough people.

    The worst outcome for them will be a "Naughty boy." and perhaps find a new way of doing whatever they want.

    It like telling a kid not to take a cookie and then do nothing when they do. It starts with taking the next cookie. At 16, the kid is a horror to the whole neighborhoud and the parents blame each other, while buying presents for the kid at the same time.

    Or a dog shitting in the house and you not doing anything about it.

    As long as there are no consequences, the law, the constitution and the amendments are not worth the paper they are written on. Nice as a movie plot (if that) or to talk about among friends as if it were any other fictional or hypothetical writing. Nothing that has to do anything with reality.

    The thing is that ALL parties involved were most likely decisive. Be it the French, Polish, American, Canadian or whomever at whatever war.

    They have it in their hand luggage. Most likely properly stored in there as well. It is not that they forgot where it was. They did not loose sight of it. They forgot that it was something that it needed special attention with the TSA.

    It also is the standard answer of people who get caught by things that were not allowed: I forgot. Because "I did not know" would be a less likely answer.

    If people get caught speeding, I doubt that many will say "I do not give a flying fuck about speed limits." They rather will say "I did not know" "I forgot to look at my speed" or something similar.

    So saying "I forgot it was in there" is meaningless. At most it would mean "I forgot that flying on a plane is like crossing a border" not "I forgot I have a gun"

    I work in Europe, so if he would have fired me, I would have gotten several months worth of pay. He still would have to go through the proper channels. I would have also gone to my union (not a guild like in the US) and they most likely would have gotten me even more monies.

    What he did not know was how well informed I was about the whole situation. I had information available that was only know to a very few. I was able to read rapports that were well above my pay grade. Reading the results of the CxO meetings is nice if you are curious and know how to keep your mouth shut.

    Obviously I had reported that I could, so my ass was covered there as well.

    Because of reasons they HAD to go through me first. It was either me or nothing at all.

    What I have learned is that you also need to have a great N+1 that you know will defend you if the shit hits the fan.

    The fact that they do not rob banks anymore does not mean there is no theft anymore. Just that it is done differently now.

    I do not see a difference between online and offline advertising. It is all the same crap. AdBlock is a technical solution to a social problem. I see people defending ads here while not working in the ad industry.

    They say things like 'I allow some ads. I would not mind text ads.' I am not like that. I do not want them. I do not like them. I would be happy if there were no ads at all.

    Is this realistic? No. Will it ever happen? No. But that is the starting point for a discussion about ads. No ads at all. The moment you say you are OK with some sort, you handed them a finger and they will take the rest.

    They have enough money to defend themselves. There is no need for the rest to help them.

    I use AdBlock and other systems to block as many ads as possible. I understand that they want money, but that is not my problem. I do not want ads on my PC. I do not want them on TV, I do not want them in the street or on my clothes. I do not want them.

    I understand that they exist and I understand the reason as to why they exist, yet I still do not want them. I DO mind them to shoz them to me. They also do not need me to defend them or stand up for them and say that I would not mind text-ads, because I do.

    I know it will never happen. I know they exist, but I will not say that I am ever OK with ads, because I do not want them.

    Everybody here seems to think that the vendors care. They don't. They know that there are just a minority of people who would want such a phone without encryption. The rest does not care.
    The people do not care that they have less and less rights. Because if they did, we would have seen it by now.

    So out of cost reduction, they just add the back port on all phones, because it will be cheaper. Only if some state or country explicitly forbids back ports will they have no back ports and even that I would not be sure of.

    It is just easier to assume that all phones already have back ports and all that they want is making it legal. Remember: Paranoia is only when you think you are being followed, not when you know you are being followed.

    If there is a due process, this would almost never happen. For amounts there needs to be a process of autentification.

    What might happen often is that a CxO is such an ass that people are afraid to folow the standard procedure and will do the transfer as requested in an email, because otherwise they get chewed at for not folowing his orders.

    Very few people will dare to say no to such a boss. I once was in a situation where the CxO asked to do certain changes on a website. I said no.

    The reason I said no was because I knew he wanted to push certain things. I knew what he was asking would hurt the company legally and thus financially. I said no, even if it was WAY above my paygrade to do so.

    Obviously I ,ailed AND called other people to inform them about my desision and the reason. Yes, my job was at risk and I could have easily just followed orders. I know the majority of people would have done so.

    Yes, there was a shitstorm and that was fun to watch.

    The company I work now has insited repeatately that ALL procedures must be followed to avaid things like what happend and ALL suspisious mails must be reported.

    This goes for EVERYBODY, especially people that are higher up. Not also, but especially.

    I would like the state to bud out what I do with my sexlife and if I cheat or not. If my wife has an issue, she can sue and get all the monies, but is should NOT be a default.

    Next the state will decide who I can and can not merry and how often I MUST have sex with said person.

    Adultery happens, get over it. If you don't do it, that is great. If your SO does not do it either, even better. But do not say what I should or should not do, even though I am against cheating on a personal level.

    Not everyone who votes Republican is a fundamental Christian NRA wingnut. Not everyone who votes Democrat is a tree hugging, socialist nutjob.

    The thing is that they vote with their haerts and not their minds.
    The majority of people would not go to e.g. http://www.istandwith.com/ and then vote for whomever is that comes out as a result.

    The majority will vote for a Dem and not a Rep because they are a Dem and not a Rep or the other way around.

    If all the girlfriends you had were bitches, perhaps hair color is not a good indication of character.

    That and the fact that the two parties are basically the same. At this moment there is no left i n the US. There is right and more right.

    The one think I like about Sanders is taht he said that if he becomes Prez, he will try to separate business and politics, but it might be too late.

    Some might call that setting himself up for failure, but to me it shows realism. Something we do not often see in politics. We onlly see soundbites and that is what the media shows, because that is what we want to hear, so the media can sell more soap.

    The unions in Europe do not seem to be an issue when companies make money. They are there so the money ALSO goes to the employees and not only to the execs.

    So a few at the top get less while many at the bottom get more.

    That said, I think the US has guilds, not unions. I am able to join any union or not and my company does not care. Every company in Belgium that has more than 50 employees has to have a union rep among them.

    People working in smaller companies can or can not have a union card and nobody cares.

    The company I work for now is making nice money. Other I have worked for varied, but non was bankrupted due to Unions. Mad management, lack of vision? Sure. Unions? Nope. There are enough cases where the union agreed to lower wages to save the number of people working.

    So no, Unions by itself are not the problem.

    Did they just loo at the total cars and assume nobody would have bought that car? Or did they calculate the difference of what was advertised and what was reality?

    In Belgium when asked, people did not really care and would buy the car anyway. Having a sunroof or not is more important.

    That said: as they did pas the test, is not the test what has failed? It is like using a ping test to see if a website is up and running.

    Off market chips exist already at least for the diesel market.You can tune them as you desire with seperate settings for seperate situations. e.g. Power; fuel efficiency, off road, heavy load and what not.

    Not sure if they are open source. They are used in the Australian outback, so I think you can say they are reliable.Some bypass the chip by sending false info.

    That said, I am sure that using one will void the warrenty, if it is legal to use at all in your country

    Some things a cop sees or hears should not be on TV; only review boards, judges and juries should see or hear it.

    That is the standard here in Europe.

    The Police will only talk to the press (or public) with extremely filterd information and ONLY if it can lead to solving a case.
    The rest will be basically "We are working on it. We will keep you informed."

    Viewpoint from e.g. is completely different. We believe that somebody is innocent untill proven guilty. That means that people who are arrested have a right to privacy. Let us not even talk about those who are not arrested.
    And even after people are arrested and convicted, they do have rights.
    So unless it is needed for an investigation, no infor,ation should be given to the public.

    1) Not having things public all the time means that they are extremely well hidded
    2) It does not happen

    There is a lot of evdence that 2 is what is going on. So how do we deal with e.g. internal investigations? Well, tjose are handled in Belium by an independent party.called Ceomite P

    It is seen as not needed for the public to know all the details. Obviously these things are available in the courtroom. That also means that all the evidence for and against is noted.

    That would also mean that if there is a clear 'malfunction issue with the camera' happens, they will be caught AND be dealth with. Next to that is messing with evidence is noticed, you bet the case would be dismissed without any questions asked.

    Rather have a guilty man walk free than an innocent man sent to prison.

    The thing is that in the US, cops who are found guilty are seldom or not enough punished for their crimes. And THAT is the real issue. All the rest means nothing. You can not solve a pc that is broken because of a faulty HD by adding a new HD. You need to remove the old one as well.

    I can imagine this is because Electrabel had to pay back a lot of money due to overpricing. If the reactors close, they can claim, that as a loss, while at the same time increasing the cost of power.

    However they can not just close it, as there is nothing wrong. They saw that the public can clse it for them, like what happend in Germany.

    This would mean a closed power station that still costs money in maintenance and that means tax reductions.And all the while clai,ing that they would want it open, so they could sell cheaper energy.
