At which the other, a fastidious shadow falling headfirst in a grey suit with all the jacket buttons done up, arms by his sides, taking for granted the improbability of the bowler hat on his head, pulled a nickname-hater's face. 'Hey, Spoono,' Gibreel yelled, eliciting a second inverted wince, 'Proper London, bhai! Here we come! Those bastards down there won't know what hit them. Meteor or lightning or vengeance of God. Out of thin air, baby. Dharrraaammm! Wham, na? What an entrance, yaar. I swear: splat.'

But Gibreel has already named it, I mustn't interfere: Proper London, capital of Vilayet, winked blinked nodded in the night. While at Himalayan height a brief and premature sun burst into the powdery January air, a blip vanished from radar screens, and the thin air was full of bodies, descending from the Everest of the catastrophe to the milky paleness of the sea.
IMHO NetBSD's rc-system works really well here (Used by FreeBSD nowadays too).
Simple and effective - and no symlinks all over the place like in SysV. It automagically orders services. If foo needs bar bar is started before foo.
And I see now that it is what OpenRC is... or atleast was.

Not a real machine but Briel Computers sell (kit or assembled) a "mini replica" of the Altair 8800. The i8080 CPU is emulated with an ATmega but you get the front with LEDs and switches. With a add-on card it can even run CP/M.:)

The VIC-20 had lots of stuff the ZX81 did not have. A proper keyboard, color graphics, disk drive(s), sound, a real video chip so the processor didn't have to draw the screen (that's why you can either run a program or have screen output. Welcome to the blinking screen!) The only good thing (IMO) about the ZX81 was the cheap, cheap price, otherwise it was a pretty awful machine.

Well, the C64 only had C= Basic V2 which would fit in a 8kb ROM. That was one of the reasons they put it in the C64. Other C= machines (even earlier ones) had better basic... but of course it was bigger than 8kb. The Commodore 128 had V7 (the last released, the prototype C65 aka C64DX had V10). V7 was actually very nice, albeit a bit slow for i 1MHz machine.
I think the deal with MS was that they could improve the interpreter without paying royalties after V1, which would mean that Commodore is one of the few companies that put one over MS.
This one from the NetBSD 3com driver is fun to. From the manual page: ep0: 3c509 in test mode. Erase pencil mark! This means that someone has scribbled with pencil in the test area on the card. Erase the pencil mark and reboot. (This is not a joke).
