You use Hotmail for a example, I'll use MSN. Google defends your privacy strongly. MSN will hand over anything the government asks for with no reason. Wonderful privacy eh?
A machine reading my email, not for information gathering but to target ads is fine. Its a very straight forward process and your privacy cannot really be compromised in any way because of it.
I do pay $50 a year for a premium Gmail account. I do it for the other features though like domain support and not the lack of ads. Thats just a perk.:)
Because you made it sound like it was our fault we werent paying for how much we used.
In Australia its slightly different. They cant cut you off (illegal over here) but every major ISP uses shaping which everyone understands. Also the limits are very well defined.
Maybe the US just needs some consumer protection laws?
Do you really think that Microsoft is giving away the software from the goodness of their heart? They are trying to lock the next generation in to using their tools.
Wow they are giving away a server? But wait, Linux is already given away and its far more capable. Kdevelop and Eclipse spring to mind for IDEs.
In multicore systems each core can only talk to two other cores. With a quad core system, each core cant directly talk to the core diagonal to it which slows things down.
Three core systems can talk among the cores easily without any bottlenecks so they are faster than dual core and quad core.
I installed Gentoo on a eight cpu server and it took a couple of hours.:) A P3 should only take 2 - 3 days to get everything including KDE.
I've never had a linux problem which I couldnt fix myself or what Google couldnt fix. Taking a week to fix a problem is far too long and you must be doing something wrong. Sure I've hit the odd snag over the years but its been pretty smooth.
And do keep in mind that once hardware is configured, you dont need to touch it ever again.
You obviously have no idea what power user distros are there for.
They strive for user friendliness just as much as other distros. However their targent audience is power users, not your average computer user. People who dont mind opening a text editor to add a wifi key and people who want more power and control than what pretty guis can ever provide.
A few hours to set up wifi is somewhat incorrect. On Gentoo I had to emerge madwifi-ng and then create a new symlink for the new init entry. Out of the box it scans for the best open wireless network, connects and runs dhcp. Adding a WEP access point is just a matter of telling it which AP uses which key. One simple line.
Not for your average user but its certainly not difficult.
Unfortunately they will require upgrades for the next version of Windows.
Its significantly better false colour. :)
You must be new here. :P

Fine. I'll just go through the air vents and disable the sensors.
;)
From a suitable distance of course. Just in case I made a mistake.
Pull the key out of the memory which you store it in. Easy.
What prevents me from pulling the ram out while the box is still running?
Heating things make them hot? Whoa! You learn something new every day.
;)
At least toothpicks have those really useful instructions on the back of the packet for those times when you forget how to use them.
Ok ok I'll stop now. See you outside of the Asylum.
I now know what Marvin was depressed about.

They are the ones advertising the connection as unlimited. Not our fault that we have a dictionary.
I'd use bots to find possible sites and then get them reviewed by humans.
Never block and ask questions later.
That just means we need more open source hardware. :)
Even if it is to keep it out of enemies hands, its still a good opportunity to blow shit up. :) ;)
I'm sure no one complained about it.
Google is opt-in. It is extremely easy and completely free to use a different search engine.
With ISPs thats not the case.
I also highly doubt that the ads will be discrete.
Ah I see now.
:)
So they turned something which could be interpreted in different ways in to something which has no meaning at all!
Thus solving the ambiguity problem once and for all.

And if something wasn't authorized then the investigation seems to just disappear and no one is ever punished.
Yes it has a devastating impact.
Just in the same way a ice age would have a devastating impact.
Doesnt mean its right or wrong or that its anyone's fault.
It also doesnt mean that we can stop it or even slow it down.
But how do we know that its safe and that your not just using it to grab good domains? :)
Even SSL fails with this method of attack.
Too many ways to add a new root certificate.
They cant use images of standard installs with various configurations (and levels of spyware and dodgy crap)?
In order to orbit successfully the debris would need a specific velocity and trajectory.
Chances are it would fall back to earth fairly quickly.
