    I always wondered why sticking pieces of metal in to your body was fashionable (earrings) or cool (nose, bellybutton, and other places).

    Although I wouldn't mind getting a RFID tag in my arm so I can log in to computers and stuff like that instantly.
    The chance of cancer (minimal) is worth the convenience.
    There are far worse causes of cancer in our lives every day.

    If you voted then you have the right to complain as loudly as you like, especially if your candidate didn't win.

    Its thousands of idiots like yourself who say that their vote doesn't count which makes all your votes count.

    Coming from someone in Australia where its illegal not to vote. :)

    I havent seen the episode you describe but usually their math is fairly accurate if unlikely.
    It would never happen in real life but they do have someone who knows their stuff telling them what things are called and what algorithms are used.

    Rsync doesnt encrypt. SSH/SCP does.

    Rsync is only really useful as a synchronizing method between a source and a out of date copy.
    Then its real benefits get shown.

    seamonkey (bigger than Firefox) with 5 tabs is only eating 50mb of ram.

    If your only doing mild browsing then it shouldnt eat too much.
    But if your heavily browsing then of course its going to chew ram.
    I've seen Seamonkey hit over 300mb of ram when I'm on a streak.

    It really doesnt bother me.
    Its not a memory leak and I can keep using the same Seamonkey session for several weeks straight.
    Looking at a big number in the task manager doesnt mean anything at all.

    Palms seem to do it with Blazer pretty well.
    The bandwidth is always the bottleneck not the hardware.

    Your looking for this for your SSH logs: http://denyhosts.sourceforge.net/
    It will automatically detect and block the attackers and optionally add them to a gobal block list.

    There needs to be something like DKIM which works on email addresses and not domains.

    At the moment it works well for companies at risk where they can control all the email from their domain.
    It doesnt work for ordinary email accounts however because some services (e.g. blog, forum etc...) will try to send emails from other domains.

    If there was a way so you entered in your private key (a disposable one maybe?) to the services which need to send email from you then it would suddenly be difficult to send spam.
    They would have to spend a great deal of effort to try and get private keys.

    The Gentoo guys already have a patch and its clean and simple.
    You cant really hide a backdoor in something as simple as a permissions check.

    Seriously. A power point is something you plug electrical devices in to.

    People dont care what a program is called once they remember what program does what.
    Thats the stumbling block - not the name.

    If I wasnt so lazy I'd buy 'unlimited' hosting and give it a terrabyte or two of files just to sue them when they run out of space.

    Can you see Google and thousands of other massive sites using a product which falls over more than a drunk guy?
    I've used it for years on mission critical servers. Its never failed me.

    Only in the US do the people have problems with the police.

    In Australia if you see a policeman then you feel safe and if you need help they will be eager to help you.
    I'm sure Europe is the same.

    If you don't use your ability then the government will realize that (which they seem to have done) and the results aren't pretty.
