    Correct. The U-2 could fly at 70,000ft. In 1960.

    The S-75 (NATO S-2) which shot down Powers has a operational altitude of 66,000ft (again 1960).

    So we are not sure who thinks this stuff up, but maybe they forgot a 0 or something. These days pretty much any altitude is vulnerable to strike missiles or aircraft.

    Millions of lives depend the crap software(as you say) that is being pushed. They are far too many articles describing the multitudes of failures with EMR, and hospital software. Yet the majority of dumbasses really believe this will work. Try this at home. Try to get a copy of your credit report. Is it wrong...super. Now try to FIX it!. Think a credit report applies only to getting a loan? Think again, try to get a new job.

    Now think of the same thing, only now your life depends on the errors in your electronic medical records.

    Of course they know that. What better way to solidify power and wealth that to continue the problem? The stimulus bill was the perfect way to embed cool stuff like Electronic Medical Records (which was the real goal) the enable more government. Not to mention gaining 36% of Citibank.

    Problem is this however, IF you let the economic pain go on too long, people are liable to start screaming for your beheading on public TV. Ukraine today is on the verge of major riots, they want ALL of their government and banks exiled.

    Thialand wants the same thing last week. They had the best quote of the week: "This government is full of robbers!"

    So in 18 months they will reimplement Reaganomics (and call it something else, Pelosiomics?).

    Cities are losing tax monies. So they are winding up the cops to 'enforce' the laws on
    the books. Whowouldathunkit?
    Seat belt laws are tied to federal monies too, so those states the never had seat belt
    laws are now running to add them, and get Fed money.

    Wow, and we are just talking some stupid seat belt law to raise money.
    Imagine what could be done if we really wanted to f&^k with everybody!

    Ha. What you going to do when they change that requirement to include 'driving without a seatbelt'? No matter that its a antique car that didn't come with seatbelts. Or you just happen to forget that day.

    Remember in these tight economic times, cops are being told to pull over anyone and everyone for anything, and seatbelts are a super easy one to catch people on. Cities need revenue and will do anything to get it.
    Hiding under the cover of hassling lawbreakers shouldn't fly with anyone, lawbreakers or not (mostly not).

    Its why we have Principal of Law and not Kings. Kings like to go around making up shit.

    Wow, do you really have no idea how you life could be made miserable to tortuous by this?
    I suggest you wake up.

    Its information tied directly to you. Any mistake(not to mention malice) may tie you to a crime you didn't do. Of course government computers are never cracked, or abused.
    Maybe you can't get a job if you are in there.
    Maybe you can't get a job if you aren't in there.

    There is precedence for that scenario.
    Think about your credit score. Think its good? Think it only applies to getting a car loan? 3 companies run your entire life. Need a job? You may not get one if Equifax says you are a bad credit risk. Even if Equifax is WRONG, you still won't get that job.

    No, all this information centralized is bad. Besides its the first attack vector of the next world war.

    I also think its hilariously funny that people can spot the 'slippery slope' of dna info, but deny or ignore the same thing in terms of firearm ownership.

    Yeah in the early 90s you could tell which software companies were going to go out of business.

    They were the ones porting all their software to NT on MIPS, Alpha and PowerPC.
    Later even M$ dropped them.

    Well the article title does say "ARMv7".

    However in TFA it describes the new Cortex series core, not really ARMv7. Its more akin to the ARMv9.
    Problem with the Cortex is limited compiler and libraries. Probably have to pay $$$ for one that works.
    Whereas LPC ARM9 gnu tools are plentiful and cheap.

    Then someone has to port all the apps you might want to use as well....

    BUT theres no usable free synthesis tools???
    You either have to Buy Altera or Xilinx tools.
    Hell, even the Commercial tools suk ass. And cost $.

    Ditto PICs, altho there is a open pic compiler that is getting close, still better to buy one tho.

    Arduino uses Atmel because Atmel 'gets it'. Their dev tools are free to use.

    This is why I like Arm7/Arm9.
    The c tools are gnu. And the asic designs are open, so theres no vendor lockin for parts.

    Why use Eagle, its not free?

    Sparkfun has Eagle footprints for their parts incl Arduino, BUT those footprints are copyrighted by Sparkfun AND they clearly spell out that they are not for use with any commercial products. WTF?

    So I used FreePCB. It worked just fine, made very nice Gerber files which I sent here, http://www.eiconnect.com/ in Illinois. Fine PCBs made by Americans.

    AND we want to do those things WITHOUT having to pay $1 per byte to Verizon!

    I WANT an OpenPlatform so I can fix the calendar/alarms to work right, I want the sync to work right, I want the backup to work properly, I want Bluetooth to be fully supported, inc, file transfers.

    I want to be able to disable text messaging and other annoyances.

    Actually, the economy will probably collapse and I wont have ANY cell phones or ipods so its probably a moot argument anyway.

    Its still messed up if the 'Labels' remain the gatekeepers.

    What I don't get is that MP3.com, for a long time brokered Indy groups or Garage Bands who sold their CDs directly to thier fans. Why did this stop? How did that stop? Many were VERY good bands, just as good and often better than the manufactured Label stuff. Many groups I liked made lots of money.

    Micheal, thats where your money is. Ever think to cross MP3.com with online Radio ??? Then MP3.com becomes the broker and RIAA can eat shit, cause you aren't peddling any mp3s that are Labeled music, i.e. NO FEES to RIAA.

    Me, I hate iTunes, its such a clunky UI, and it always wants to dick with my files and folders.
    Now it wants to gather all your personal info so it can choose iTunes for you... no thanks.
    I have to find a basic mp3 player, or maybe I will just make my own.

    Of all the langs listed TCL is the only one that goes to PPC405 and half a dozen other embedded system processors out there. The only one with a very nice and easy to use single file packaging system for deployment to other major systems. The only one with portable gui toolkit. And all in a very small deployment package.

    Doing guis in perl, ruby or python?...probably with Tk huh?
