    You're right! I also heard that cell phone jammers emit electromagnetic RADIATION, which in addition to killing 10 year old boys with bad hearts, can also CUT YOU IN HALF or GIVE YOU CANCER or even BLIND YOU! One time someone jammed my cell phone signal, and my ice cream went all melty.

    I'm afraid to ask if you honestly believe what you wrote....

    The article is straightforward and objective. It describes the material without judgement. This is good. In the same respect, be honest with your child about human nature.

    You can only break the laws of a sovereign nation whilst you are within the jurisdiction of that nation. That is part of the definition of sovereignty. If you are outside the USA, you can't by definition break US law.

    I find that funny too. Every once and a while I read some accusation in the paper or online about a certain person or group which "hates freedom" or is "anti-family". I don't get how someone can accuse someone of these things with a straight face. I mean, come on. Nobody hates freedom.

    Nope. Photons really don't have mass, but they do have momentum. Think of it in terms of energy. Everything has energy (and in fact you can't have zero energy). Energy can manefest itself in either momentum or mass. You can have zero momentum and some mass, or you can have zero mass and some momentum. There really is no "disharmony" here. I'd also like to say, and I think I speak for other physicists out there, your argument reads like nails on a chalkboard. Makes you "question the underlying agenda"? We can't make judgments on the basis of what we think the universe should be like, we have to look at experimental data and compare with theory. If it doesn't match, find a new theory. Photons having no mass seems to work very well with both experiment and theory.

    I sure don't feel the pain of the daily commute, because I RIDE A BIKE! A while ago I invested in a bike with fenders and some nice rain gear, and I've never looked back. Seriously though, if you live within ten miles of your place of work a bicycle will make you look forward to your commute.

    Quantum computers even if they can be made practical , will only solve a small subset of problems...

    This isn't true. The great thing about quantum computers is they can reduce problems that live in exponential time (n^x) to polynomial time (x^n).

    Modern cryptography is reliable because prime number factorization is in exponential time - it would take too long for even the fastest conventional computer to factor a sufficiently large prime number. Reduce the problem to polynomial time and you've got a problem whose solving time is more or less trivial.

    You apparently haven't actually tried "hacking reflow using a toaster oven". Solder paste is so incredibly easy (and time saving) that once you've tried it, you'll never go back. I use SMDs for all my homebrew projects for exactly this reason.

    I'm sorry, this is lame. Here's a one-liner

    mogrify -resize 64x64 -type png *.gif

    Don't try and claim you can't rebuild them. It's trivial. I'm sure it would take less then a couple of minutes to extend this to creating transparent pngs, too.

    No, not three dimentions.

    The idea behind a hologram is that you can encode information from a higher dimentional space to a lower one, without much loss of generality. This device records three dimentional phase information (from the laser) onto an effective two dimentional subspace (the diffraction grating).
