I have to respectfully disagree and say that it was [adult swim] on cartoon network. They aired it for years late at night, rebuilt the fanbase, and then Fox suddenly "changed their minds".

    Go figure.

  5. further development on Human Animal Hybrid Created in Lab · · Score: 1

It says they terminated the hybrids after only a few days. My question... what would have they come up with if they hadn't?

My first guess is that the species wouldn't be able to survive very long due to vast incompatibilities. How will this be at all useful, beyond the harvesting of stem cells, if the fetus can't develop properly?

  6. external power source... on Tiny Robots Powered by Living Muscle Cells · · Score: 5, Interesting

"even to drive miniature electrical generators to power computer chips."

This makes it seem as if muscle cells can act as a source of free power. I'm sure the above plan would work, but only for a very short time... Just as human beings can run "without an external power source," until we need to recharge (i.e. eat). We use sugars to produce ATP which gives us the energy we need. But the problem is that our bodies contain all of the necessary facilities to convert sugar into ATP quickly and efficiently, while lone muscle cells on a computer chip do not. They would eventually be forced either to remove the cells and replace them with new ones, or to find a way of recharging the cells, which sounds like a project in itself.

If current trends in the likelyhood of natural disasters continue, the chance of this happening will probably be reduced to 1 in 500 million in 3 hours or so.

But what about those who just want to get back to nature - and shudder at the thought of a woods where Thoreau could go online?

"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not remembered to check my email."

I can think of two fairly good reasons for always having a Live CD handy.

First, for those unfortunate incidents in which I screw up a new kernel compilation and lock myself out of my computer.

Second, for scaring the crap out of my computer teacher -- "What did you do to Windows? What the **** did you do to Windows?!?"
