What does it matter to people if Linux isn't accepted as a "desktop norm"? I know there's the MS-hate/defeat-the-top-dog attitude, but other than that... what? Is somebody going to make big money if Linux takes off? Sure, you could argue pretty convincingly that botnets/zombie pcs would drop off significantly, but I would think that it would be a whole lot easier to educate people a bit on MS/Windows security than to get them to switch to Linux. Why does this keep coming up as a big deal?

Yeah, you're right, just that I don't use AOL mail (I don't think that an AIM sn and AOL email are one and the same...?) or MSN, and Gmail/Gtalk are so integrated.

That's not that bad anymore. Pick: 1) ICQ/AIM 2) MSN/Yahoo and 3) Gtalk, which is a part of gmail anyway. That's three accounts, one of which is an email also.

  14. wow on Virtualization May Break Vista DRM · · Score: 1

Analysts say what probably happened behind the scenes is that Microsoft or one of its media partners decided at the last moment that encouraging consumers to use virtualization would, at least symbolically, be at odds with its attempts to enforce DRM.

"Microsoft doesn't want the music labels, TV networks and movie studios to come back to them and say that you are enabling this ability to move content around," said Mike McGuire, an analyst at Gartner Inc.

Not allowing virtualization because someone can share a multi-GB VM via Bittorrent and "break" DRM? Uh, I think there are easier ways to break it, but I stay away from DRM, so I could be wrong...
