I don't work for microsoft or any software company and never have. I use windows and Linux, and like different aspects of both of them. I have been, overall, very happy with Vista thus far. Its utility and reliability has been as good or better than Linux or XP. Most people post AC to say stuff like and reply to trolls because they probably would rather not get modded off topic. I don't really care though, my karma is excellent. So I'll use my account, which is in good standing (unlike the troll Twitter who now uses a sock puppet account) and publicly agree withthese posts.
The option for no OS at all too. At the very least provide me with a clean install of the OS you choose, and proper installation media--meaning none of this hidden partition crap most OEMs use these days.
Just curious, and I know offtopic, but what is the brand and model of the laptop? How old is it? The only time I've had an Ubuntu installation fail was when I neglected to check the disc for errors before installing, when I finally did check it there was an error found and I kicked myself for not thinking of that sooner and saving myself a lot of time. Maybe that was your problem too.
I intentionally leave my AP open so that anyone can use it if they wish. I don't see how this could be illegal for them if the owner of the access point, and the person paying for the bandwidth doesn't care if people use it. There's never more than one or two people on, I've never noticed my speed decrease because of it.
Wind and solar cannot fill the gap left by removing fossil fuels and nuclear. Covering vast tracks of land with wind farms is not an option. Paving the desert with solar cells is not an option. Putting a solar panel on every home...could technically be done but it would be too costly so it's not an option either. Unless you're sitting on the secret to increasing yields from wind and solar ten fold or more, I'd like to see how you can craft those technologies to be a viable, space efficient, reliable sources of power capable of SUSTAINED generation day and night 24/7, 365 for the entire population of the United States. It cannot be done. I'm not arguing with you here, you are arguing with reality.
Your other comments about nuclear weapons...there's nothing more an American and an Aussie can say to each other here, it's impossible for you to understand what we deal with in America because of your geographical and political isolation combined with your relatively good standing among the rest of the world. We're not getting rid of our weapons. Impasse.
There's no such thing as Gulf War Syndrome. There are similar incidences of symptoms among veterans who served in other theaters of war and never even went to the middle East. Start some reading here, http://www.biofact.com/gulf/ especially the section "Is this a real disease?". Pay close attention to number 4, Those with anti-war sentiments would like to discredit and defame the United States and the global war on terror. Is probably actually the number one reason why we still hear so much about it. The birth defects claim was also a shame, overall numbers being LOWER for Gulf War veterans than the general population with exception of two heart valve defects with a slight increase in incidence.
The symptoms of this "disease" are so broad, varied, and inconsistent that it is impossible for it to be coming from a single environmental factor. We also know the risks and symptoms of radiation poisoning, and while some of these symptoms are among the laundry list of maladies incorrectly attributed to the fictional "Gulf War Syndrome" they do not point to any direct connection to the use of DU munitions. Most people who are exposed to and handle these types of ammunition live perfectly healthy lives and never develope any of the symptoms associated with this fictional disease.
Clean in this case means that if stored properly, the actual "dirty" parts never comes into contact with the environment in such a way that would cause any harm or measurable effect. If it were standard operating procedure to just vent the radioactive waste into the air then you could call it dirty. And that's exactly what coal fired plants do, btw.
Your comment about nuclear power being inseparable from nuclear weapons is patently false. The fuel cycle for power production does not result in weapons grade material, they are entirely different processes. It is possible to create special plants that do produce material that can then be turned into weapons, but this requires deliberate intent to do so. It can't just happen by accident or as a result of normal power production. We also need nuclear weapons for our own safety. Unless you think you can convince every other country to give up theirs too. I'd love to live in a world where we didn't need them, but that's not an option currently, and if you tried to do it anyway as I suspect you would if it were up to you, you wouldn't be living in this world for very long at all.
The waste products generated by the types of reactors we use now would be reduced with newer reactor designs and we have the capacity to store the waste safely for a very long time, long enough to out last the United States I'm sure. The gap created by the loss of such a monolithic source of power as fossil fuels cannot be filled by renewables alone, not currently. Wind, solar, and hydro need to be part of our more diverse energy sources for the future but they cannot be the only sources. We need the immense yields of safe, modern, nuclear power to carry the majority of the weight. Our country is increasing its energy consumption every year and it will only keep increasing.
I think the point is that Eve is not as instantly gratifying as WoW. And that's fine, different people will like it for just that reason. You have to work harder but you get a bigger reward in the end making your sense of accomplishment feel all the greater.
Too bad they hate whitey. And I read that they're finger printing and documenting all foreigners now, so you can enjoy being officially discriminated against by the government in addition to unofficially discriminated against by the general population. And it's a shame too, they have a lot of cool stuff--you mentioned a few examples;) . I suppose it wouldn't be so bad to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.
You can just turn off UAC and the entire Security center you know. That's what I do. UAC and the Security center really aren't meant for people who know what they're doing, they were designed for average computer users to be able to understand and implement basic security procedures and protocols without having to know much about security. I doubt you or anyone else on this site needs that kind of hand holding. Just turn it off.
I hate the entire body of blog* derived words. We had perfectly good descriptors for these things before that inane buzzword came about and everyone started using it in the most forced and unnatural situations. I cringe when I hear it on TV. Also, podcast is another. It's an rss feed linking to an audio file. You don't even need an iPod to use it! When something new gets invented, yes, go right ahead and give it a hip, cool name but these weren't new technologies. It's pure marketing.
They changed that in Vista: now you can't get rid of the favourites pane at all, even if you want to. Not true. Organize --> Layout --> Navigation Pane
That will toggle the view of the entire navigation/folder and favorites pane that have been combined into one. and this can be set as default in the usual way via the Folder and Search Options window.
Or opera. I never saw any ads at all even with FF. The only problem is I have not been able to block google text ads or the ads in search results on google with Opera. With FF I just used customizegoogle plugin but I can't find anything for Opera that's similar.
Gaming websites are pretty bad, usually having at least one of those ugly flash ads and some other random stuff. What is worse are those inline ads when you click a link and it takes you to an ad page first then forwards you. It's always funny to see a big blank space marked advertisement with nothing in it because the actual ad content was block:P Still annoying that you have to click through an extra page to get where you wanted to go.
The GP is actually a well known (some would say infamous) slashdotter called twitter. His posts are usually full of elaborately woven and completely unfalsifiable conspiracy theories about Microsoft that he always refers to as M$. He's sort of a village idiot type around here, ranting and raving to anyone who'll listen. Ignore him, laugh at him, just don't take him seriously. And please remember that not all advocates of open source are as crazy as he is.
That's what I thought at first, but it's not always the case for everything. For example, little things like toothbrushes--cheap plastic stuff you'd expect to come from China--I found a brand made in America and they're.50$ each. And this is at WAL MART of all places! If you're willing to look around, I am certain you can find a domestic alternative to nearly everything WITHOUT paying substantially more, and the quality is usually much better. You know as well that the money you spend is going back to working Americans and not contributing to our trade defecit. People just aren't willing to try. I think laziness and apathy has far more to do with it than price.
I stopped buying things made in China. It is possible. I've found that most things you could want to buy have an alternative made here in America, except maybe electronics and you can usually get ones made in Japan. I've been saying this to people for a long time, longer than the last six months when we've been hearing all these stories about poisoned Chinese products. Check the labels, shop around if you can. There are alternatives out there.
I did the quotes, 22,700. I tried adding +my city, down to 15. None of those were me. I only have a cellphone, and searching that number came up with nothing. Same with my address. It looks like I'm not on the google.
The White House argued that the law was obstructing intelligence gathering. Of course it is! That's entirely the point. It's not supposed to be easy for the government to carry out espionage on its own soil. In the course of an investigation there will be a lot of information, records, conversations, and correspondence between the persons being investigated and regular citizens. When you do your espianage on American soil, the bystanders are AMERICAN CITIZENS, protected from being spied on. It should be very difficult for the government to do those types of activities. Just because the white house thinks they need a blank check to do what ever they want in the name of security doesn't mean we should give it to them.
Also, about googling your own name; I just did that and although there were over 1.5 million results, none of them were about me as far as I could tell:(
I guess I should be relieved, although I'm kind of disappointed that I'm not important enough to have my privacy violated.
He gets paid to make ridiculous, outrageous and often times completely asinine claims based on speculation for the purpose of attracting viewers so ads can be sold. He does his job well. Also people are really good at remembering the hits and forgetting the misses, if he ever actually gets one right that's all you're going to hear about him, not the hundreds of things he's been wrong on.
And the dad could snap and kill his whole family with a claw hammer as they slept. There's really nothing you can do about either situation. Would you rather have a shootout, or a massacre?

Because we do whatever we want, to whomever we want, at all times.

Fascinating. Were you able to do this without using string theory as well?
That sounds like a dare to me.

Not all geeks are great at math. I don't know any calculus and struggled through all my math classes.
The more you know.
