If a 501-c3 put together a grid, then everyone donating computer time would get a tax deduction fort the time computing. The 501-c3 would donate time to charitable and educational uses...cure for aids etc. Get an appraiser to specify value for a minute of donated time so that you can deduct more than $500 worth. I think there are established values for supercomputing time. The first true example of earning money while you sleep.
I would hazard a guess that any change in the shape or direction of the galaxy and hence its stars, by interacting with another would cause orbital shifts among every stars orbiting bodies. By using our example of life on this planet...most any orbital change would be cataclismic to life as we know it. On the plus side new opportunities for life might occur.
It isn't about incompetent people doing the work...more likely priorities within the company. There is a list of jobs todo and when a particular job is 95% done and working except for maybe tweaking security, the programmers get pulled off and sent to more demanding jobs that have risen (because they are not yet working) to higher priorities than that last 5% security tweaking which gets put off because no-one is complaining about it (possibly because no-one except the original programmer and maybe his or her manager, who are now busy with other things, know about it).
Everyone is thinkng about r2d2 wanting sex. That's pretty rediculous. We should be thinking about David in A.I. Artificial Intelligence. When David grows up and becomes lustful, without the 3 Robotic Laws, what will hold him back from taking what he wants, man or woman? That's the con side. On the pro side he won't suffer the ravages of age
Hi...Is there any transfer of energy (kinetic) from the light that is being reflected to the mirror itself causing the mirror to move away from the desired vector?
Is the "solar wind" similar in it's effect on a solar sail as wnd is to a wind driven sail? In other words does Bernoulli's principal apply to the solar wind allowing upwind solar sailing, ie tacking back towards the sun?
How can we with all our limitations and unanswered questions possibly comprehend the full scope and nature of the universe such that we can say anything at all with any finality. How can one define something that is undefinable by our standards, since we don't know everything there is to know in order to create a definition? Maybe the term universe is much more limited than you thought. Perhaps there are multiverses out there. Whoever created the definition for universe didn't know that so how could they create an all encompassing definition for a universe when their perception of the universe was so limited? If you can imagine it, I'm absolutely sure it exists somewhere. Just name something you think doesn't exist somewhere and then prove it.
It was only a few years ago that you couldn't buy a crt for under $300 and I mean 15". Now you can get them for $150. When the electronics industry would complain they couldn't make any money and that's why everything costs so much. It is now clear that the induwstry was soaking the consumer for the $150 difference because they certainly didn't discover in the last five years how to half the cost of crts. Everyone (almost) is buying LCDs and since noone really wants a crt they have to lower the price. The trick now is for everyone to say. "we don't want LCDs, we'll buy crts because they are so cheap," and then the price for LCDs will drop and be where we want it.
Fortunately social misfits don't have the diverse skills required to manage a successfull space venture. However replace rich industrialist with rogue nation such as N Korea...
who knows, maybe the kids were children of radical Islamists practicing on their way to the airport to try and blind a few airplane pilots. a) thee cops nipped it in the bud b) the kids learned to be more dicreet next time.
Between throwing turkeys in the front of oncoming cars and dropping watermelons off of highway bridges, a few malcontents can go a long way with laser pens
Cheaper production process just means the manufacturers will be able to increase their bottom line. There is no reason these companies will pass more than a minimal savings on to consumers. Their pricing will be as high as possible but still allow them to generate market share. When their share of the market becomes greater than they can fullfill, their prices will increase. Supply and demand!
The chances of putting em in footballs is about the same as putting them in baseballs to do away with umpire error in the strike zone. As one channel 5 sportscaster informed me the judgemental errors of umpires and referees are part of the game and he wouldn't change a thing.
I think all suspected terrorists and insurgents wherever they may be held should have RFIDs implanted without their knowing before they are released. They may lead us to other terrorists or when the practice becomes known, they may disembowel themselves to get it out, or their fellow insurgents may kill them because they are risks and or the entire organization might fall apart through mistrust and an inability to get together in any significant numbers.
However, just think about putting a long range readable chip under the skin of all the Iraqi and Al Quaeda detainees without their knowing about it and then releasing them. They would lead us everywhere we needed to go and then some. When they found out they would begin diemboweling themselves trying to get rid of it or once the word got out about the existence of these things, you would never be trusted by your fellow insurgents. If you weren't shot, mistrust would flow throught the whole organization not knowing who could be trusted or who had been compromised and communications would break down and organization with it.
China recently said they wanted back the land they lost in 800AD. It happened to include the Korean peninsula. Not so long ago they took Tibet from the Tibetans. Just ask the Dali Lama if China has an expansionist mentality. The only reason they haven't invaded anbody else is because of the powers arrayed against them. Given the chance of course they will.
Antarctica doesn't have anything anybody wants. It's of no particular military value. It doesn't give anybody an advantage. Why do you think everyone could agree not to militarize it? Space is a different matter. There are distinct advantages to controlling space. Better us than them, I say.
Who can you believe anyway? If we (Americans) are militarizing space, at least we admit it. Who else would broadcast it? Russia, China, Pakistan, Iran? I don't think so. We have to assume they would if they could. Don't be so naive to think they wouldn't. The only countries publicly against militarizing space or militarizing anything for that matter can't. Furthermore if they don't want to militarize it's because they don't have anything anybody wants so there are no threats. If it wasn't for our militarization of Texas, Texas would be part of Mexico and who would our President be?
Isn't that what Siemens is proposing in one of their newer phones still in development to increase connectivity?

Yeah, I really need three times as much radiation blasting the side of my head or irradiating my pubics if I wear it on a belt with hands free.
The very same computer controlled actuators that keep it balanced when walking would keep it balanced when someone tried to push it over.
Try pushing over something powerful enough to move around 500 lbs that doesn't want to be pushed over.
Wait till it pushes back!

Women should not be stored. They spoil easily. Use em or lose em I always say. Nothing better than a fresh grind.
