Just checked it out. I have to say I agree, it is pretty bad. But compared to the flash-infested-crap-hole that is the normal hotmail interface, it's a breath of fresh air.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I read somewhere, not too long ago, that Hotmail was set to go to a new and improved user interface that would look alot like Outlook. I haven't seen or heard anything since, certainly not on my Hotmail account. Can anyone shead some more light on this rumor. When, where and for whom is this update coming?

Or am I just being delusional again?

I know the ultimate space is limited and the file transfer size might cause a professional problems, but for the casual photographer why not get youself a Gmail account and email yourself the pictures you take as you take them? 2 Gb of storage is more than enough for my current collection of digital photos. And I trust Googles backup device, whatever it is, way more than anything I could ever set up and have easy access to.

As a matter of fact I have taken to storing other important documents in this fashion. Tax returns for example, file electronically and save the documents as PDFs. Also a quick set of videos I did of the house I just bought, code to AVIs and email to myself.

Lets face it, even if you get abitious about file backups, how many of use are really going to put the time and effort into haveing something off site incase of fire/flood? Gmail solves those problems with relatively little fuss.

The problem with any power generation scheme is that there are always side effects, you just have to pick your poison.

With photovoltaic systems you have the nasty chemicals currently associated with manufacture, with wind power you have what some people consider noise and landscape pollution, along with bird strike problems, although this problem is probably over hyped with newer windmill designs.

There is, as they say, no free lunch.

  8. Some quick and dirty math... on Sorting Through the Analog to Digital TV Mess · · Score: 1

Ok so the population for the USA right now is estimated at almost 300 million people. So if we do some quick math that comes out to $5 per person. I suppose you could try and do some thing per household but I'm not really sure how that would work since most households have more than one TV anyway.

Since new TV's capable of receiving digital signals are not going to come down in price THAT significantly over the next 3 years, I'm betting this is a voucher program for D to A converter boxes not TV's.

I don't think it can be overstated how important automation is to our future.

If we can turn technologies like this into something that: collects, proccesses, and utilizes' raw matireials, and self replicates, the possibilites are limitless. If we can get automation sufficiently advanced we can send a small robotic factory to the moon or mars and have a habitate, fuel, air, water, and bio-mass ready for use when we get there. Terraforming and other "sci-fi" ideas become a little more plausable.

The raw matirals are out there that will allow the human race to expand away from the "one planet, one disaster away from extinction" problem. And the solution isn't people in space it's automatons as an extention of our will.
