  1. Redundant au max on Researchers Find 70-Year-Olds Are Getting Smarter · · Score: 1

If we know our children are getting smarter quicker because of the constant blasting of technology around them, they know how to program the pvr at 5...etc...of course once they get to 70, they will be smarter then last generations 70 year olds.
It is the same with technology, our curve will adapt to match that of technology, we have no choice, because technology is designed by us for us, and mass produced for the population we have, they say in another 10 years everyone will have their own cell phone....if that is true, then no one will left not knowing that you can add speed dial, or contacts to your phone, or sync it with your outlook, or thunderbird etc....step by step we match the technology curve, so of course as time progresses are dying older people are dying smarter then they were generations before.

Everyone needs to be a bit more like him. Doctors, engineers, lawyers and race car driving as well as many more particular careers give you an edge, certain awareness, almost above average, to the point that making split decisions become second nature, and the confidence that comes that is inspiring. We all need to travel more, abroad, soak in different cultures, and learn more languages, we all need multiple career choices of which one should give you access to better mental stimulation of the nervous system, to fully understand the way the mind works under stress, and also be able to master quickness and accuracy in certain conditions. I think if we did that, there would be more stories of people like this guy, that used his knowledge to make quick decision and saving a life, possibly more...

Knowing all your escape exists, and where each fire extinguisher is each time you enter a new building seems extreme, but many navy seals, and black ops agents need to do a 1000 more things like this in the same amount of time to be able to have a situation under control. I am not saying become a navy seal, but merely showing that if the mind can be trained to that level, surely learning where your exists are in every building you enter does not sound that bad in comparison.

I remember firstly digitizing my whole collection, as 4gb dvds in digital format, then I heard about the avi format, and thought I will buy a dvd player that will play avi format and change my whole library to avi.
That having been done, and many downloads later as some had not been able to convert easily (missing codec for sound etc...), I cleared up much space, but to my dismay, I also ended up downloading more content too....browsing the sites does that ...i'll take this, and this one too, and oh yeah, this one would be nice.

Now at 4tb, plus 4tb backups of first 4tb. means I have 8tb.
Some are 1tb drives, others are 500gb....now if I can get my hands on one of these 3tb drives, my life will be less cramped, and unless I find someone to buy my older drives, then I will start finding more stuff to download....the irony of it all.

you still capture the kids imagination, so how come we need to push so hard for an industry that is really never changing.

The bucks saved by the big cos never really end up seeing the employees reap the benefits, like higher pay grade...

Could you imagine if there was deviating from the straight 20%, it was the exactly the same for everyone.....I guess accountants would be without a job , well most anyways.

If I could, I would lobby for this in all governments, 20% of nothing is nothing, where as 20% of 10 million is 2 million, so Tom Cruise who has more money then god, would be now helping the ones that are starving by actually PAYING his taxes, instead of giving it to some cult, where as the poor who have no money to eat, would still owe nothing, and be left to figure out how to pay for their food, instead of uncle sam.

Well, if you were an artist, you would know that sales of albums usually only gets you 1$ per album for the band after xx sales (usually 1 million copies for the big ones), which is why Nsync and Backstreet boys took their managers (the same guy to boot) to court because he said they were bankrupt and owed the company money even after selling a gazillion records.

However, the revenue generated by concerts , tshirts, and dolls (Kiss)...usually has a percentage attached on the bottom line dollar for the artist...so in Gene's case, this means he gets more money selling the memorabilia, then he does selling albums....to fill his contract obligations, he just puts out another greatest hit(they have 13 greatest hits albums overall including the alive ones...pretty pathetic and smart at the same time.).

So being a shrewd business man, and getting around the obstacles laid in his path by the big record co. he goes out and promotes himself even more by getting a tv show....now the sensation is back, and doll sales are again going up for him. Smart man!

I think this is still ok, as I mentioned M$ are never front runners when it comes to really creating stuff, they just copy , even add-ons for their own software, usually you will end up seeing it in the next gen., such as visual studio and the like. I remember way back when you had very few members to gmail coming out, and I happened to know a guy whom worked with google on their servers, and I mentioned to him that gmail could also be a offer a little more room if they had a filesystem scan incorporated into their systems that looked for an exact duplicate of a file (which when you send out those stupid joke emails, everyone gets) and use pointers instead of a whole new copy of the same file...so low and behold, this was used later not only in the gmail system, but also the hotmail system. I can see why M$ would want to do this, as now with cloud computing offering online content even when offline, and also using free space amongst all pcs to help with file raid parity, it was only a matter of time before we would see them moving this technology fully to the web. Makes so much sense, why should your business worry about backups and domains and what not, when your whole enterprise can be on their servers, and at their finger tips....
