Can he take on the setting for the number of rings before my cell phone rolls to voice mail? It is cunningly set by the carrier to give me just enough time to dig the phone out of my pocket, orient it, and position my finger to accept the call, before it rolls to voicemail while I shout "Hello, Hello!?" into the depths of the restaurant or movie theater I'm currently at.
It used to be, in the days of Yore, that you could choose the number of rings, but I haven't seen that option in a decade.
When you're comparing performance of compressing an 8GB folder with 1000 files, or total time to encode a 2-hour movie, it's perfectly acceptable to use a stopwatch, and have your margin of error be +/- 1 second.
However, it is *not* acceptable to use a calendar.;)

I've already told a friend of mine that by the time his daughter reaches twelve she'll be doing exactly that, then blackmailing him to get what she wants. He thought I was joking.:)
The term "burning" brought up a memory - I was in the Oakland firestorm back in 1991, got out with clothes on my back and my car. The entire Bay Area community was very supportive in helping people recover - with the notable exception of Electronic Arts. I had about ten EA titles for my beloved Amiga 3000 system at the time. When I called EA, explained the situation, and asked how to get replacement media, the answer was "We have no way of knowing you really owned those games. Feel free to buy them at full retail again." When I asked what the point of all the registration cards I'd dutifully mailed in was, the answer was that "Those go to marketing, we don't have any record of them."
Needless to say, I don't have to worry about dealing with the EA forums.
"Formation of an ocean is a rare event, one no scientist has ever witnessed. Yet this geophysical nativity is unfolding today in one of the hottest and most inhospitable corners of the globe. Africa is splitting apart at the seams. From the southern tip of the Red Sea southward through Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Mozambique, the continent is coming unstitched along a zone called the East African Rift."
This stretching of the earth's crust has been going on for 20 million years, and within another 10 million the Red Sea will have broken through to create a new sea.
So actually *every scientist* has witnessed this event...

Agreed. OTOH I'm at a fairly high design level for IT systems, and after two hours of whiteboarding at what was supposed to be an interview I stepped back, laughed, and said: "But after all this is an interview, not a consulting job." and erased the whiteboard. They weren't happy.:) Sometimes the company is looking for a design, not a designer.
So, granting all that, including the highly dubious "ever spreading threat of terrorism"; what exactly is the problem with requiring a warrant to perform this electronic surveillance?
Battery life can't be the issue, since the iPhone *also* doesn't support Bluetooth data transfer. Since you have to plug the damn thing into a USB port anyway, it's charging continually.
For years, I kept reading that any monitoring or filtering of *transport* content (not content on their own hosted servers) would be flatly rejected by the ISPs due to potential loss of their "common carrier" status - which in turn would open them to all sorts of customer liability lawsuits for not filtering this, inappropriately filtering that, etc.
So what's happened to that safeguard? I understand it wouldn't apply to usenet groups being hosted/provided by the ISPs, but what's being discussed here is blocking traffic to third-party websites.
How can a *state* law pertaining to buying or selling votes be applicable to a *presidential* (federal) election? State law can't trump federal. I mean, yes, technically he's electing a state representative, but it's part of the federal election process, not the state's.
Even from a cursory (get it!?) glance, with that tumor at the top right where the USB hub goes; you can't shove it up against a flat surface without canting. Bzzzt.
I'm just impressed that someone actually calculated a percentage correctly! Usually when someone says it's a 200% increase, they really mean "twice as much", a 100% increase. Congrats to Apple for assisting in the development of consumer math skills!

(I always buy aftermarket RAM and drives for my Macs, Apple is as bad as Sun at marking up that stuff.)

It's an "octothorp", dammit! Why is that so hard to remember? :)

Now, if we could get rid of the black helicopters...

I just can't believe I can't boot a VM from either product off a USB drive.

So why aren't the UK record stores being prosecuted for selling this "child pornography"?

"and to send DMCA takedown notices to the likes of eBay and Craigslist for below-minimum offers"
How (I'm afraid to ask) can DMCA be used to enforce MAP violations?

Ok, then I'll skip the *second* half of the semester.

So isn't this just setting him up for failure? Isn't all his future email going to be blocked by the same (or an affiliated) filter engine at Verizon?

And I'm guessing that's not legal?

Can't C++ be used to write programs that display images, without regard to whether they might contain child pornography??
Enabler!!!
KeS
Sure it will. Now all they have to do is steal the red shock button.

So you ADMIT you're a racist!!
