What about "AIR space" don't you understand? Its the SPACE space I'm worried about. The Chinese terr^H^H^H^H government has attac^H^H^H^H^H tested a powerfu^H^H^H^H^H^H^H experimental laser by disab^H^H^H^H^H blinding a US satellite. The US is not at war with the Chinese.
Linux is not and will never be Windows. Windows is a consumer grade toaster-OS You can't really change anything and that's the way consumers want it. linux is a developer grade erectorset-OS. Change it any way you want. Flexibility frightens the consumer. They want everyone to have the same OS as they have themselves so they can feel as if they fit in. Linux is for people who don't need to fit in.

There is no such thing as an untraditional voice, just temporarily unconventional sources of information and streams of publication. If you want to call your column a blog, or vice versa, do it. When citizen journalists can report without overwhelming bias and with their FACTS CHECKED, then we will have something. For now, every CJ story should be considered fiction until verified.
And yes I DO know that this goes for the mainstream media as well, but twice as much for CJ.
I know, waaaaay too late, but let's review the "facts" of that "news story"
1) China can launch "things" into orbit
2) China can control and track the orbit
3) China can bring the "things" back down to Earth without turning the things into toast.
Now, what newm up-and-coming bio-technology, coupled with remotly controled robotic devices, requires all of those skills?
Don't answer all at once.
1) The Internet is a Bad Place - but we've been told this since the virtual world was made up of BBSs and FidoNet. 2) People are afraid of new things - basic marketing 101 3) No one wants to broadcast their real self to the world - see story of Adam and Eve.
An American manufacturer copied the design of a loom from an English company and started producing wool. Others stole the design and pretty soon the American wool industry was booming. Why? Was American wool that much better? Could we produce more wool?
No on both counts. We did it cheaper and had a domestic market that couldn't afford anything but US made wool. What was exported was STILL cheaper than English wool. British wool was driven into a niche of "high quality" while Americans got rich on low-cost goods.
Moral? High Quality is the last refuge of the losing side.
When I see one of these commercials it will make me sit up and take notice.
I will notice two things and REMEMBER those two things:
1) Which channel the commercial is on 2) Which program the commercial is on
I will not watch that program again, and if I see that commercial on other programs on that channel, I will avoid the channel.
This is not a threat, this is how I react to things I don't like.
I don't like math. I have unconciously structured my life so that I don't need to use math. I didn't do it on purpose, I just did what made me less miserable.
I hope these guys did their homework in psych tests and double-blind studies, or there will be a new crop of baristas at Starbucks who used to work in advertising.
All of the Evil Terrorists (tm) are sitting in their Evil Lair (tm) in an undiscolsed location and laughing at us. Mostly because we believe the terrorists are somehow unified.
BTW, only nations (like the USA) are capable of Unified Terrorism (R). It's called war.
There will come a time when the lawyers (or what passes for them) in China will figure out how to game the system. Enter a plea one way, you get one outcome, enter a plea another way, and three years are taken off the sentence. There will be two law schools: one for the laws and the other for the program bugs. For a fee, the good lawyers will have your plea entered to your benefit. No cash, standard outcome.
LINUX NOT YET READY FOR DESKTOP. Early adopters of the new linux desktop we dissapointed when they couldn't find the "Start" button, Media Player, or Explorer. Said one user "I couldn't even find Word. What kind of computer doesn't have Word?"
This will appear on the same page as a full-color microsoft VISTA add.
This is just political tactics. These loosers will tack this brick onto some Democratic feel-good bill, like free Housing for All, or National Health Care, or Puppies are Good.. Then the Dems will be forced to kill their own bill and the GOP will tell the world how the Evil Democratic Party (tm) doesn't like National Health Care or poor people or puppies.
I know this first part is off-topic, but stick with me.
Isn't the FIRST rule of security that you don't ever share passwords? And the second, and the third?
Structure your access so that the people who would need to access everything in an "emergency" (whatever that might be) have the proper passwords. Then create one MASTER password changed every week and encoded and writen on paper and kept locked in a keyed vault. Then hand out the other passwords structured UP from the users, through the managers, to the VPs and so on. Make your DB about who has what access, not what their passwords are and you will be more secure. This way you can have certain people responsible for changing passwords without giving them access to anything the passwords control.
TALKING HEAD: This afternoon in National Guard troops were called out to stop the rioting that has gone on for three days. The rioting has caused $ of damamge and destroyed countless businesses. In response to the protestors the decision was made to use a new non-leathal device. Here's with that story.
REPORTER: I'm here at the just blocks from the riots. The devestation is astounding and the site of a pilar of smoke rising over the city brings home how devestating this riot has been. Earlier, Maj. General said he felt the new device was a God-send.
FILM CLIP OF MAJ. GENERAL: We felt the use of such an advance device as justified given the state of the city. The Mayor was about to announce Martial Law when the device was deployed. Within hours the device stopped the rioting and cleared the streets. We feel it was a complete success.
REPORTER: And there you have it. Good news all around.
Kids these days are using the consumer-oriented electronic "toys" because the world they live in is dominated by consumer oriented electronic devices. You've got to use it to learn it.
Symantec is involved in this. My only questions were "What is Symantec trying to sell the public now?" and "How much hand-holding will I need to do to convince users that this is just more fear-mongering?".
I know Symantec is supposed to be a white-hat company, but as the guard at the door, they sure do spot a lot of invisible monsters.
Wow, someone is running KDE on national TV!
Can you say "Marketing Opportunity"? I thought you could. If the show takes off, prepare to have OS X or Vista on that puppy.

Is that the same thing as "enabling the disability to survive"? I hope this isn't another attempt to rename "kill" as in "liquidate".

Europeans are so lucky. They have a built-in excuse to skip the initital wave of problems and go right to SP1.
So my vote goes to the guy back by Giganto Corp instead the guy backed by ReallyHuge Co. Big deal.
