LOL, I first read shorter return window to mean the physical counter where you go to return items and I thought, "Wow, this guy must be tremendously tall for that to be a factor." Yeah, I'm having one of those days...
You're exactly right. XP had a shaky start but matured into something people really liked. I don't see a reason to rush to upgrade your existing XP box. The notebook I bought 3 weeks ago came with Vista Home Ultimate and I have quickly grown to like it quite a lot. There is a learning curve and they did get a few things wrong, but all in all, I would say it's decent. Vista is the present, XP is now the past. It will get better.
Hopefully, slow adoption will force MS to realize they need to release a better OS from day one, rather than make everyone wait for SP1.
Wasting time? These forecasts and the associated warnings that are generated when solar events occur are critical for protecting satellites and astronauts in orbit, predicting intereferance in HF radio transmissions including GPS accuracy, etc.
I didn't need/. to tell me that riding in an elevator that is climbing a 200,000km long ribon cable anchored to the sea floor and connected to a counter weight in geosynchronous orbit, while being shot at by a frickin'laser beam from the earth the whole time ostensibly to "power" the apparatus could be lethal. It goes without saying, mate!
I don't use their browser, but I know how integrated it is into Windows along with its supporting DLL's, so it's probably an important update for Windows really.
Think for a minute how dependent our military and our society are on computers and their new and spare parts. Now imagine if say Taiwan got nuked by the Chinese...
All this PC BS is rendering our kids unbale to cope with the stress of the real world. My little brother and sister have panic attacks any time the slightest thing goes wrong. They both lived with my mom until they were like 22. What the hell is going?
"The Greatest Generation" got that name because of what there were able to achieve in the face of so much adversity.
Illegal wiretapping, two (that's right, two) botched wars (the Taliban just took back two towns in Afganistan), extreme secrecy, Vallery Plame, calling for the State Secrets privledge across the board, botched operations after Katrina, Scooter Libby, Carl Rove, prosecution of reporters, prosecution of private citizens under the Espionage act, Free Speech zones, Halliburton, $7 trillion national debt, between $200-$400 billion spent in Iraq against estimates of $8B, depletion of the National Guard, NSA blanket collection of phone records, NSA collection of airline records, secret laws that dictate conduct at airports, secret laws that you are governed by but CANNOT READ.
It's unfortunate that more people in this country aren't aware of the events you list. Does anyone know of a website that has a complete list along with links to news articles detailing them?
Trusted Computer Solutions has a product called Trusted Gateway that allows for one-way transfer of files from a lower classification network to a higher one such as transfers from the Unclass NIPRNET to the Secret SIPRNET. It can be configured to allow specific status messages to come back down so you know files have made it through. I am working on a large project at the Air Force Weather Agency to ugrade their "data pipe".
The Israelis did this years ago. Norm MacDonald even made a joke about it on SNL's Weekend Update. Something to the effect of "That's good news isn't it? Getting all those rats up and around again..."
...for our file and web servers, but we are moving to Sun. The SGI's have been incredibly stable, but their JRE is out of date and the JVM core dumps frequently.
This is far cry from something useful. Soldiers do a lot more than walking. What about running, diving, low crawling to some cover, then firing from a crouched postion?
The very openeness that makes Wikipedia such a dynamic and powerful resource exposes it to abuse. Is it a perfect system? No. Is it an incredibly valuable tool? Yes. Will it continue to improve because of things like this? Of course.

Farmers would probably spend a good deal of time sitting while driving equipment or filing for government hand-outs.
A+ for slipping in this criticism of the farm subsidy system.

Don't say that! It wasn't funny this time, but it will be funny again!

Hooray for the terrific initial movie titles released!!

Disclaimer: I was born in OK and attended the University of Oklahoma.
I am going to go hack a few liquor stores tonight. Anyone want to be my driver?
I maxed my 5Mbps Cox cable modem connection the other day downloading some Linux iso's...
Anyone know?
