    For a single individual it would be too low. For a major home developer buying in bulk and likely doing the installation themselves it's probably about right even without subsidies.

    You're making that lifestyle out to be waaayyyy harder then it is in a modern society. It's actually very easy to be a reasonably nutritionally fit vegan in modern society. If you pay a bit of attention to the food you buy then you can be nutritionally sound fairly easily. Really this is true for anyone of any diet. On the other hand there are plenty of people in the first world who eat meat who are nutritionally deficient.

    Not a single human being has been sentenced to jail in the name of the 13th amendment. Furthermore, people were being incarcerated in this country well before the 13th amendment. You have no clue what you are talking about.

  8. Just because America has the clout to make this happen and China would not doesn't mean we shouldn't have asked Canada to do this. Really, we'll have to wait until we see what the charges are as last I read she had filed for and been granted a publication ban of the charges ( https://www.bbc.com/news/busin... ) although that info was a bitch to track down after I read it the day before as I couldn't remember where I had read that at and most media outlets are focused on the mystery and not the cause of.

    The problem with your reasoning is that slavery gives a false sense of power to even the non slave owner. Southern whites volunteered in the masses to defend their "superiority". Economic self interest was not a factor any more than modern southern self interest factors into Southern voting habits.

    It's all philosophy.

    A) Slave rebellions never work
    B) The institution of black inferiority was culturally rooted not only in the wealthy but in the common person as well. How else could the South have raised such an army of white people to fight for its cause?
    C) Such culture entrenchment would have require genocide to properly root out in an immediate context and I don't think any sane person would want that. To ad a level of personal anecdote to this, I've had a handful of black friends over the years and not a single one of them who has been to the South has a kind thing to say about it.

    When the US fought it's bloodiest war over it and desegregation had to be forcibly fed to our Southern States fairly recently you think slavery would just magically disapear like a breeze if no effort was spent on it? My apologize but you seem to be terribly naive.

    How does slavery leaving the Caribbean equal the guarantee that slavery would just naturally leave the South? The South was very clearly fighting for its constitutional right to own people as seen by every state that bothered to file a justification with it's succession, or by the credible quotes of its first president.

    (In referencing another of your posts in this article's general thread) I grew up in the North Bay California punk scene and once upon a time knew quite a few pirate punks. You anarchists all seem to be horribly naive in your faith that decentralization will solve everything. It all rests on a mass mindset change just as communism did.

    You missed my point entirely. There is quite likely not a bit of honest anything in that post. The likely purpose of that post is to rile people up. While bashing regularly posting right wing types from slashdot's forums that poster has made themselves out to be the arch-type of the pathetic Leftist the more ignorant members of the Right want the Left to be. It insults idiot members of the Right while validating their world view.

    Basically, this post's point is likely to make people argue more. I don't know that for a fact but I find it to be the most likely reason as I find it unlikely that a person, as depicted there, actually exists and is also a regular slashdot user.

    I've just come off disagreeing with DNS about a bunch of shit but I have to say you have no clue. Your description of foreign travel portrays your antisocial bias. If you make it as boring as you describe it then yes, foreign travel will be boring and lame. But so will anything else with such a boring attitude.

    If you make it less about physically seeing lame tourist sites you can see photos of and more about actually experiencing the fucking country you're in then you can be in for incredible experiences.

    Sadly, based off your post those experiences might be incomprehensible to you.
