Could we fix the tags please. I love the April fools stories, but the tags sort of ruin it. I know they are made so we can search but why not use an anagram instead? Something like "Parol's foil", maybe even do a story on how awesome Parol's latest foil is for tin foil hats.
Tomorrow you can switch all the tags for April fools, but today we should make them so blindly obvious we don't need them pointing out to us.
Hopefully the editors will read this and sort it out.
1. The DS's main screen doesn't scratch easy.. on the other hand the Stylus's are slightly sharp when held at an angle, so you must have a screen protector. I've had my DS a year and the screen protector is honestly scratched to all hell. Get screen protection for your DS.
2. Graphics capability are underwhelming? Gameboy colour = NES, GBA = SNES, DS=N64. Seems to be a natural evolution to me. The DS looks better than the N64 with Mario 64 but doesn't play quite as well as the N64 did (D-pad isn't so great as a stick). As for the speakers.. well turn the DS up to full, it's louder than I'd have my TV on.. you hear everything fine. If anything I think the DS maybe a little too loud.
3. You've just hit the nail on the head. PSP is a portable console, complete with loading times and "Oh we can make better graphics than you!" ideals. Nintendo know full well that doesn't work, you must make a handheld console, a handheld console. While GTA may be great for an evening in, doing 30-40 minute missions after a 5 minute loading is just a bad idea for most people going places. I went to the hospital a few days ago and had to wait to see a doctor (1am emergency clinic), I was in pain and rather restless, so I took my DS and when I felt like playing I just turned on Mario kart, when I wanted to stop I turned it off. 4-5 minute bursts when I needed to distract myself from the pain. That's how most people play handhelds. 10-20 minute journeys, waiting in line, going to the bathroom etc.
The PSP tries to be a shark in a fish pond. It's big, bad, oh so pretty and can beat anyone up in the pond. But it's so big and bad it can't get around the lake, so it loses out to the little fish who can just side step it. The PSP has been side stepped over and over. It hasn't quite figured out why it's being beaten yet and as soon as it does, it'll see that a shark just doesn't work in a pond full of tiny gold fish.
I haven't read the article, I try to avoid things like this because of the insane fanboyism but..
In the community it seems the PSP is mostly being used for emulation and the DS is being bought for DS games. The PSP might be a good jack of all trades machine, but the DS is for games and in the gaming community it's wiping the floor with the PSP.
To quote a message I saw once "I love my PSP, but it's collecting dust while I play my DS". This seems to be the general feeling around the two handhelds. One is worth playing and the others great, but it's not being used as a handheld, more as a portable PS2. Which is not what people want.
I don't want 20 assholes going "WOO YEA!" or laughing when I'm trying to listen to a film. I miss stuff when some dicks going "HAHAHA THATS SO TRUE!!!one1ONE!!". It's very much an American thing where you boo and cheer at the screen as far as I can tell. In England at least it's a case of "try that and we'll kick your ass out", quite a few times I've wanted to smack some idiot for doing it and the whole feel of the room turns to annoyance when people like that start talking.
I went to see episode 1 and 2 at the cinema, I also saw them on TV a few years later. I don't think either lost much of anything. When you watch a small screen you take everything in, when you watch a large screen your eyes tend to focus on 1 part and you miss the rest. I don't care how "ZOMG THAT LOOKS AWESOME!" explosions are, I've got better things to be watching than pyros when I see a film. I can get brainless entertainment all day every day, I don't need to be ripped off for it.
Also I suggest you goto a place called Dunoon, it's in Scotland. The cinema has two screens, one is probably 50 seats and the other has got to be some where close to... oh.. 20! I'm totally serious, the screen was so big (cough), that it lit the entire room. You could see plain as day thanks to it.. Something worth thinking about when you walk into your uber cinema. Not ALL of them are uber cinemas, some are tiny and the only choice in town except DVDs.
I have up modding this topic to point something out.
Nintendo do something Sony and Microsoft don't get. You'll shit yourself when you ehar what it is.. because it's like EARTH SHAKINGLY AMAZING. Nintendo make fun games, games you can pick up and just play, enjoy them and be done with them. They don't need Mario to be super realistic, or 12 hours of FMV per 3 minutes of gameplay. They just make good games.
If you can't see this or think that's "lame". I suggest you stop playing games and start watching films. Fun comes before the latest greatest graphics engine. If you'd look beyond your biast to maybe try Mario kart or something like billy hatcher you may enjoy something.
I'd also like to point out RE:make, RE0, RE4 and quite a few other games on the cube arn't aimed at children. The cube just happens to be a good console which is afordable and so suitable for games aimed at the new and old. Maybe you should check the PS2 release list and see the 5 million children's games released each year for the thing.
That quote is so over used it's pathetic. It's also totally incorrect..
Lets say a rapist gets into your house and you have your daughter with you. You can lock yourself in a room (hence safety, but can't go any where yet freedom), to protect her. You only have to give it up untill he's gone, now it may just be me but I think I know what I'd do. Do I suddenly not deserve freedom any more?
Please don't use bullshit quotes, every parrot can repeat them and they never mean anything the parrot thinks.
I'm not trying to troll.. but theres something I just don't get.
Back when the books were written most of the things Jesus did were amazing.. yet today your average children's entertainer can do them. Things like slight of hand and such... Even his "respawning", can be explained in other ways and I won't even go into living in a desert for 40 days if you know what you're doing.
Don't you question this even remotely?
Also why would you trust some book which claims it and only it is correct? Isn't that sort of like listening to Microsoft when they say "We're innovating the market, making our software more secure and making dreams happen"? They're blowing their own horn and disagreeing with them makes no difference. Don't you see the bible in this light at all? Maybe I'm missing something.. but the bible to me just sounds like PR for a religion like you're average company. I don't deny there could be a God (or several, or none at all), but there is just part of me which instantly goes "hell no" when I hear stuff like "only believe in me, have no false idols" or "I'am the only way into Heaven, join me or burn in hell". These sort of things seem cheap tricks and turn me off..
I'm honestly not trying to troll. I'd just like to know how your mind works because mine screams bloody murder (or stupidity I suppose), the second religion gets remotely involved in anything. Some parts of religion I agree with (be nice to everyone, everyone is equal etc.), but most of it seems about on par with your average fantasy novel, just a bit older.
Excuse me while I stop pissing myself with laughter.
1. Iraq war. People said no and protested, yet I see troops still there and even helping start it.
2. More people voted in Big brother than in the general election.. maybe it's just me.. but I don't think many people care about politics.
Shall we go on? Labour is taking the piss and trying to cut out everyone who's going "oi retards, you're fucking up the country!" and this is just another step on that ladder. Remember Hitler was a really nice bloke on TV, he was the apple of most young girls eyes.. Even pure evil can put on a charismatic alter ego and play nice to the public.
Don't put money on "the public" turning this over, get writing to everyone you can and do it NOW. This is one small step up a ladder which leads to the Ministry of Peace, other wise known as Camp X-ray or a Cuban jail everyone knows is full of tortured "terrorists" (even though no one can define a terrorist..)
How would a mac mini work for playing games using windows? I need a new graphics card but Mac mini isn't much more expensive, so if they play games well I might look at getting one and dual booting.
I suspect MS just want to keep Linux from starting to death rattle but no more. If they can keep Linux alive to the point is "next year Linux will become mainstream!" they can pretend it's a real rival in the anti trust lawsuits. Any more than that and Linux is a danger and they'll want to cripple it.
Linux is like a little kid right now. If has a lot of freedom but hasn't exploited it yet, the second it starts to get out of hand MS will try and bitch slap it back into what it sees as "it's place". But untill then MS want to encourage it and act like they're trying to help it, it's great PR to "help the little guy" and with the anti trust stuff being thrown around, using Linux as a defence is a very good move by MS.
The lady who used to live nextdoor to me died about ten years ago, she gave me her TV in her will. It lasted me untill last year and I'll be damned if it wasn't 20 years old by then.
So not all TV's die fast.. We just forgot about quality when we mass produced crap and charged 4 times more.
What world are these people living in!? Mobile phones and a TV is not "throw away", a good TV will last 10-20 years if not more. Why would anyone in their right mind pay the price of a TV and considerit disaposable?
So what? Some guy plays for 12 hours, just like most gamers have done several times in their life. It's not exactly a difficult thing to do or anything.
Well my name in Google says I once submitted a review to Gamefaqs and I helped out a few people in a mini painting group on Yahoo. I don't see how this can hurt me even remotely, but then again I tend to keep my surname private. After all my first name is all you'll ever need to know in every day situations.
Maybe it's just me here, but most people in the OSS community seem pretty bright people. Bright people tend to rather dislike the Bush government and would go out of their way to NOT help them.
I mean seriously, what type of people will want to support this government. All they get back in return is the loss of basic human rights and in the future finger pointing. It's a lose-lose situation.

On the other hand if you could round up a group of guys/girls/midgets in penguin outfits to start working on a project like I mentioned above you would get HUGE media coverage (Blind guys building computer programs at 6). It's more or less the ultimate feel good story crossed with "kid out of no where makes huge company" story. So much so you could probably play off it to get funding for the project and hence not only fill a gap in software, but even raise money to support your products (you have a history of this, shouldn't be too hard if you helped build the system) and maybe even a way to pay for future projects along the same lines.

The MS and Sony market is the "upgrade" market. They just remade their current consoles with better stuff inside it. Then upped the price and continued down the same path. There really is nothing remotely hardcore about them or the catalog of games they'll produce. Games are now more casual than ever with very few exceptions (Devil may cry, RPG and such).
Medical service : Not vital, get insurance you bum!
Broadband + PC : WOW! WE SO SHOULD HAVE THIS! EVERYONES GETTING IT YO!
The US is fucked in the head if you or anyone else there seems to think the Internet is more important than life. I love the Internet but if it comes between comming to slashdot quickly or getting medical attenction, I know where my money is going every time.
I saved a cat once, so that means I can go mock someone who saves a cat in a different way right? FUCK NO!
Gates needs to sit his ass down and shut his mouth. If he cares so much for these people why doesn't he pony up a few million dollars every month? The guy has enough money that he would struggle to spend the intrest per month outside of MS's blackhole departments. So why isn't he going "okay, you use windows (at a reduced fee kekekeke) and I'll put up the money to sort out a system which will deliver power to every village (a generator would work perfectly) and 1 laptop could go to a village who now have light and heat. Add a well to that and you have some very very well off people in African terms.
Or the revolution could just use how you move to do the same thing, or add something like a belt which you could move around in so it knows.

a new platform designed to provide consumers with a personalized Internet experience
So they'll be releasing a tool bar, which will do all of this again and claim other wise?

There really is nothing remotely hardcore about them or the catalog of games they'll produce. Games are now more casual than ever with very few exceptions (Devil may cry, RPG and such).
Trip doesn't fucking eat, he's always here :/
It's the Razon Ramon Hard Gay MMORPG!

Can you repeatedly go "SEI!" if anyone tries to flame you too!?
I'm from the UK so make what you want of this.
