    erm.. are you an idiot?

    4000+ = 4 gig+ in Intel numbers, the system is simple as hell. AMD processors get more power out of a smaller clock speed because they do more cycles per second.

    So no, they just label their products to compare them to the Intel line easily.

    Another factor is that alot of kids today don't care to learn. They never will because they have it "handed to them on a plate". All we hear is "college will get you a great job! Theres more jobs then ever!". Maybe these kids are taking it to heart and just not caring to learn?

    A computer is an ends to a mean, if you know how to use the internet (Google, Wikipedia and whatever your poison of choice is news wise), you can find out MUCH more than most books will tell you (most have a stand point and never tell you the opposit stand point).

    So no, a computer doesn't mean you worse off, using it to play minesweeper or talk on an instant messenger program as you work does.

    I want to learn it to play various RPGs. I also hope to travel there in the future to see what it's really like to break the steriotypes you have brought up.

    I'm currently trying to learn Japanese and I really find it helpful that Slashdot has turned into a blog so I now know there are a few programs which will help me, but I don't know what they are..

    I have to say I agree with you, luckily I have a several medical conditions which would keep me out the armed forces. But every day I see more of my rights going down the drain in this country (I live in the UK). It's great that this week we had a police force say they couldn't deal with the murder cases they had because they didn't have the funding or the resources they needed to do it, yet we can go and protect another country from madmen wanting to blow each other up.. you might think the governments care more for "winning" a fictional war then they do protecting their country... nah can't be, these guys are ment to do our bidding and make the country better.. couldn't possiblely send thousands of people to their deaths based on a lie. That's just stupid!

    Erm, you forgot something.

    "Might" as in, they didn't and they knew they didn't to the point where they had to "sex up" documents to make a case and when 2 high rank British lawyers said it was illegal they sent a third to the White house to "find out if it was or not" who came back and went "no it's fine it won't stand up in court but don't worry it won't get there". Then went on his say so..

    You also forgot the RIAA also sued a DEAD woman.. Got to love how it costs exactly the same to sue 1000 people as it does to sue 1 for a company.. it almost encourages you to bully people with lawsuits doesn't it?

    Erm pardon? If I met another slashdotter I wouldn't react ANY different to them then a normal person. Untill they prove differently you need to assume people are idiots who don't care what you have to say or even remotely know about it.. when they prove other wise I might have an intrest in them.. this would probably apply to most people...

    Untill you prove other wise you're an average person who I couldn't careless for. I don't care if you read Slashdot, Fark, Somethingawful or can draw goatse in a photo-realistic fashion using a biro. You're just a stranger who may have seen my internet rantings, you're as trust worthy as a Nigerian prince with a yahoo account...

    Most computer geeks are also very logical and will use their brains to work stuff out they don't know.. this is a true sign of being smart. Anyone can read a book and know what to do, or watch someone else do it and copy, but to be truely smart you need to be able to apply basic knowledge and function to complex things and work it out from there. Computers in general are very logical and so most geeks are logical.. so we work things out and can adapt to most things.. where as the people you've mentioned and things don't work the same.

    Cooking well makes you enjoy living a bit more, but you can live with poor food just as well as you can great food... where as you need a good computer geek to make a PC run well.. a poor one.. well hello Windows..

    A few weeks ago I saw an interview with a reporter who got into Mensa, she passed the test with flying colours... got into the group and went to a few meetings... well.. in short.. she didn't fill the test in at all. A friend did it for her..

    Seems they can't even tell when a "normal" person is among them, now they can't tell what a good source engine is. Next it'll turn out they were all frauds who had to make a gang incase someone wanted to take their pocket money..

    I still use Wndows 98 because I don't want to pay for an OS I won't use for more then a few months. I'm switching to Ubuntu Linux soon and if my modem wasn't a winmodem I'd already be using it.

    Time does not = MONEY!

    You can turn time into money, but you cannot get time for money. Hence time cannot be money. If you were going to sit watching porn for an hour and instead use the time to get a free ipod you just "made money". You used time to do it, but it didn't become money. You're work became money and you worked within that time.

    So lets change it to Time + Effort = money k?

    Yea I get this. But that doesn't explain why people want to be deceived, I can't think of a single geek who DOESN'T want to know the truth. Even if the truth if we're all going to die in a week, at least in that week we can attempt to fix it. Where as the political system is so broken in every country in the world that theres no way TOO Fix it without totally restarting it.

    but the point still remains. Why must people be lied to, to vote for someone? Be honest, say you can't cure cancer or make the trains run on time, but you'll get it as close as possible. If you can't get them to arrive within 2-3 minutes of their "set times" then make them run a little less often (5 minutes never killed anyone and it would make it reasonable for the train drivers and hell they may even get there early. But god forbid that right?

    What about "Why do people believe whatever politicians say?". I've never seen a single one not lie out his ass every chance he gets just to win votes then 6 months later deny all knowledge. We're ment to be a smart race yet we repeatedly fall for the same scams and tricks day in and day out.

    Might not be "why is the universe breaking laws we know apply to everything in it", but it's something which might effect our lives unlike a few of the things mentioned.

    So many people are going "YAY THE LITTLE GUY WON!", well no the little guy didn't do ANYTHING! AOL was never going to read how little janey is sleeping with Jamie today but Dave tomorrow. They couldn't careless what crap you put in an IM as long as you click an ad once in a while.

    Changing a couple of words (AKA addding "oh the forums") doesn't mean "the little guy won". It means AOL spend a tiny amount of money to correct an error they made everyone made a song and dance about.

    Well done little guy you cost AOL about 0.00001% of their money on a lawyer! Time to take down Microsoft now!
